A 19 year old who suffered a slew of injuries that retired for a year isn't normal but isn't that off the wall if you think about it.

Sure, there's potential risks with future concussions/ease/length of symptoms, but the dude is a talented edge rusher.

He came back, balled out in Miami, didn't have any concussion symptoms etc.

Not saying we got to take him at 10, but I wouldn't be opposed.

I really could care less if he thought about quitting. He's playing now and that's what matters. Who hasn't had moments in their life (especially in their early twenties) when they didn't know what to do with their life?

But the head injuries, guys, be honest. That's bad. I'd sooner take old man Farley and his bad back then gamble on a dude who plays a physical position and has a history of concussions

People in here keep talking about Phillips, concussions, and his position. When is the last time a defensive lineman was knocked out of a game or missed games because of a concussion? I don't buy that argument. Wr? Definitely. Lb? Absolutely. DL? Not that common

Remember that I said this when it happens. He will slip into round 2 and Dallas will trade up to get him just like they did DLaw.

If this doesn't happen then forget this post entirely.

Premium position.
Best player at the premium position.
And, the Cowboys suck on defense.

Logic dictates, that the value/return on his draft investment is extremely profitable.

You can't just quit when you get paid or you don't get paid. What a nonsensical thing to say.
You sure can. I’m not saying that their won’t be some fallout from quitting, but it can be done.

Yeah.. I've been watching him a lot this week and I tend to agree.

Dude has the athleticism and can shed blocks really well.

These are the types of players championship defenses are built on. Not some corner.

He looks like a top 5 non QB player in this draft who is going to be had later on at a huge discount.

If his medicals check out he should be our pick.

You know The Joneses and Cowboys Zone love their skill position players (CB, WR, RB).

I will give Phillips this. If he did not have the injury issues. He would be a top 5 pick. His size/speed ability is the best in the draft. DLaw, Gregory, and Phillips would be devastating if all remain healthy and out of trouble. Plus if you trade back to 15 and get the extra 2nd we will be cooking with grease. I can’t say I hate the idea.

Hell no to Quitty Paye.:mad::facepalm:

Anyone with that many concussions I take a hard pass on. Especially at that position.
You would be passing on the best pass rusher in the draft which is exactly what you need on your team to win. He is worth a risk in the mid to late 1s round. If they get a year or 2 out of him it would pay off nicely. None of the other pass rushers are in the class of Jaelan Phillips. Phillips would give the Cowboys a chance to win.

A year or 2 out of a first rounder? Did you really just write that?

I think we can say he is the best pass rusher in the draft but at the same time admit that the concussions are a red flag, can't we? At number 10, is the risk worth it? In a year where Dallas is desperate for defense, or a stud offensive lineman, I don't know that Phillips is worth the risk. If it was my decision, I would take a guy I know is going to play at least 75% of snaps on his side of the ball in 2021. The Cowboys have Lawrence and Gregory, and while Gregory is himself a risk due to bad decisions, if he is able to play, I do not want to take him off the field to give my rookie 1st round draft choice a chance to play. They signed Basham and they have Anae for depth. I don't think DE is as much of a need at they have at other positions.
They could trade back to 13 or 15 and take him or they can trade up from 44 if he falls into the 30's. He does become worth it at that point. He is worth the risk. He could pay off nicely.

Yes, 1 Super Bowl is worth it. Where else will they get a pass rusher that has this ability? So, you just want to turn it down when it is right there within reach.

Yes I do. Because if and when he gets another concussion he will retire. And if he doesnt he will be in big trouble. He has also already once almost quit football. Sorry I dont want to spend a first round pick on a guy who may or may not love football and or make it thru the season. He also sat out the bowl game to prepare for the draft. So obviously winning isnt too important either.

I'm just going to throw this out there... You may disagree....

I think you can avoid taking shots to the head that would cause a concussion a lot easier than almost any other position as a DE besides OL.

Also, he'd be rotating for a year or 2 because of Lawrence & Gregory so he wouldn't be over exposed.

Good player..smart with a chance to be great. Concussions are a legitimate concern, he thought about quitting football, those thoughts could resurface with a couple more

You're going to get 5 good years out of him.

The 2nd contract is where i'd start to get worried about his loyalty.

So you want a rotational DE in the first round instead of a player whos out there every down? Makes sense
