DeMarco Murray was the Cowboys MVP that season in 2014, both he and Romo received MVP votes. Romo was able to manage games with Murray leading the way. It’s been argued by many that our 2007 team was the best team the Cowboys had since their 90s championships. That was one of the most explosive offenses the Cowboys had ever had for at least 10 games. They had TO and Terry Glenn. The Cowboys were scoring 33 points a game until the wheels started coming off late in the season. The team faded just like our current team is fading. Romo had a franchise record 36 TDs that season. He was on pace for over 40 until his game fell apart in Dec. We beat the Giants twice that season and they went on to win the Super Bowl. That team wasn’t overrated it sputtered out. Romo had several other good teams so don’t pretend he didn’t. I’m not going any further with this discussion, I’m in no mood for a marathon debate on a topic we clearly don’t see eye to eye. I’ve given my opinion and if you don’t agree that’s fine. I’ve argued with you in the past and you like to keep going and going and going! I don’t have the time for it.
That’s all well and good, but NOT ONCE did you address the main point of my 2-3 sentence post, which was Garrett out of the way. We all know what the numbers were, but that in no way addresses the point. What you have basically don’t is just thrown stats at me, as if I didn’t know that’s what the team did, when we all know what they did. What you pointed out does not in anyway address the issues.
1. In fact, if we really wanted to see how you are shooting out of the hip, we just have to look at Terry Glenn in 2007, who didn’t start a single game and played in only 1 and targeted 1 time. He had a knee injury and was DONE. So no, that 2007 offense didn’t include Glenn.
2. No, Romo was the MVP of the season as he coordinated the offense for the first time without Garrett in his way, because Jerry banished him completely from play calling. It wasn’t Murray ‘leading the way’ it was an offense where the Cowboys finally were allowed to utilize the run, to complement Romo’s arm. That’s why Jerry was gushing about the Linehan-Romo relationship in the off-season.
3. I didn’t say thar 2007 offense was not highly explosive. I said it was highly-overrated, because Dallas was leading the league in terms of yardage to go on third well into the season, despite being his number 1 ranked offense in the league. I already quoted the stats, the average yards to go on third were a whopping 8.3 yards, meaning with the bottom dweller offenses of the league, but Romo’s passer rating and performance of third down was at an all-time high, meaning HE WAS CARRYING THE OFFENSE. That’s why the ‘wheels starter coming off’, because the joke of a play caller had Romo bailing him out at what was an unsustainable level. This problem of third and longs with this offense under Garrett continued throughout his career as a play caller, since he has no clue how to field a running game. Guys like Columbo, Gurode, Kosier, Holland and Davis were all journeymen linemen and the numbers on third clearly reflect over-rated they were, articulately as a run blocking line.
Absolutely none of this was on the level of what Romo finally started to work with in 2014 period. It is not in any way, close to the talent Dak has had surrounding himself since he stepped on the field, while as a system QB, he has dragged that team down and been the weak link over and over and over again, because he’s not a real pocket QB.
