I don't think you want Tyler kicking over to LT any time soon. Maybe as he absorbs more coaching but if Tyron misses any games the 1st half of the season Tyler is probably a liability if they kick him out. keep him at guard as long as possible and hope his penalty issues are covered.
If they did put him in at LT because Tyron went down, he might look even worse than Chaz Green did against Adrian Clayborn.

+1 but I would think/hope they will NOT this kid on an island before he's ready.

If his hand placement doesn't improve, it would be Alex Barron redux.

The owners son is telling us where someone will play, not the coaches.
You don’t think they discussed this together draft night lol? He’s also not just the owners son but a big part of the FO, for better or worse. Not like he’s just some dude across the country saying random ish.

Since when do front office guys not know where the projected positions are for the guys they drafted?

Super normal NFL comments we just happen to hate the guy so no matter how normal his answer is it will get fried lol.

“Position flex” is a Garrett holdover philosophy and it is vastly overrated. Vastly. Other than making it easier to decide on your active 46 and 53 man roster on paper— what has it actually yielded in terms of on field production?

And it definitely gives rookies too much to process early on. Parsons is the exception— not the rule— but I fear his success last year at mastering multiple positions will only embolden this FO to deploy a flawed strategy

Get so tired of the phrase!!

FB?

So this guy fills two holes. What's not to like? He replaces Connor Williams and is the backup to Tyron Smith.

With a healthy Tyron.....
Smith - Smith - Farniok - Martin - Steele

With an injured Tyron.....
Smith - Farniok - Badiasz - Martin - Steele

Sorry but I don't want McGovern on the field at all.

Dude. Have you been paying attention. Jerry has been in love with position flex for years. Most teams are. Only time that was stifled was under Parcells

Jimmy and Tony Wise showed him the light.

FWIW— I have heard Nate Newton on the podcast talk about how changing positions along the OL is more difficult and nuanced than would appear at first.

Believe it was back when they moved McG to LG and were also talking about Collins potentially going back to LG from RT and Nate was basically saying they should just let the guy learn one position and keep him there… Personally I don’t know much about the intricacies of all that would be involved— but I respect Nate’s opinion as someone who knows what he’s talking about
Yet Tony Wise moved Nate from RG to RT and then to LG. Moved Kevin Gogan from RT to RG. Hudson Houck moved Larry Allen from RT to LG. Tuinei played about every position after being a DT and finally settled at LT. They did it more then than they do now.

KEEP HIM WHERE HE'S AT, YOU'RE MESSING WITH THIS ROOKIES LEARNING, I'm tired of this. You have guys you mentioned to play swing tackle, let them do that! Keep him learning one spot!
Learned nothing from the cluster mess they made with Byron Jones...CB...Safety....CB...switch.

Farniok? LOL

You guys are hilarious. How about we let the kid do something before we anoint him. How do you think Farniok would have looked last year in his first year starting against the Bucs DT's or Cox?

Yeah somehow Farniok became this uber backup when we weren't paying attention.

Interesting. That sounds way more like he's an eventual LT than I thought. Does change the calculus of the pick a bit. Take an upside guy who might not be great year 1 to be your future LT. That is a good risk at 24.

That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing him play

Ahhh the old position flex gag.

Tyrone Crawford legally stole millions under the concept.

Being garbage at TWO positions instead of just one is paramount.
