Roger Staubach. A franchise quarterback fills in a lot of gaps.

I was close to saying Aikman, but Aikman couldn't dodge and run like Roger and doesn't have Roger's leadership qualities.
Aikman would get pissed off at you and not throw you the ball anymore.
I don't think that works with this generation of football players.
Roger had a way of inspiring teammates and getting the best out of them. And if he needed to fight, he wasn't a push over.

Defense is important, and there are any number of players from the past who could help this defense immensely (Deion, Haley, Randy White, Too Tall Jones, DeMarcus Ware, etc.)

But having a franchise quarterback who is clutch in critical games can't be overstated, especially when there's a thin line between winning and losing in the post-season.
Troy aikman was a very good player but Roger Staubach could do more with less talent around him.

Every defense feared Roger because of his ability to inspire his team to play way above their heads at all times.
He had an iconic mystique similar to Tom Brady where players just believed and would walk through the fire for him.
You can't really explain it to people that didn't watch Roger play in the moment.

It's hard not to think that Emmitt Smith would pair nicely with today's passing game focus. Defenses cannot take away the run without undercommitting to CeeDee and the passing weapons we have. And Emmitt's pass blocking was devastating.

I say that, knowing that Manster, Sam Williams, Micah Parsons, Jabril Cox would be devastating on defense. The Manster probably couldn't play the middle NT, with today's average 300+ lineman. However, as an edge rusher, he would devastate in pass rushing situations. I'm sticking with Emmitt, despite how intriguing the defensive addition would be.

Staubach, and it's not close. A QB just has way too much effect on a team to pick any other position.
And no one in Cowboys history had more effect on their team than Roger Staubach.

Roger had an aura of invincibility that was unequaled.

Roger inspired confidence not only in his teammates but the fan base had an absolutely unprecedented confidence in him over any other cowboy player ever to play.

Those of you who never saw him play in the moment will never be able to understand this but having the privilege to watch him and the confidence he gave you as a fan of this team has never been duplicated.

Well we can add him to the list too! I don't care who it is as long as they wreak some havoc inside. That's the missing piece to our puzzle IMO.
I will certainly agree that's one of them we haven't used a first round draft pick on a defensive tackle in a dog's age.

People say Deion was the most dominant player to ever play in the NFL, but I say that the most dominant player ever was Larry Allen.

So, I take Larry Allen. I let him play some DT, too.

Then, runners up for this team would be Sanders, Woodson, Romo, Harvey Martin, Haley.

I'm sure Jackie Smith appreciates Roger taking some of the blame for that "errant" pass he dropped in Super Bowl 13. There was nothing wrong with the pass; Smith just flat out dropped it. But that's what leaders do. They absorb the blame for the mistakes of their "followers."

I had even more respect for Staubach after he stood up for Smith. Even Hollywood Henderson swears by Staubach for coming to his aid during the down period of his life.
