Autocorrect can do it’s own thing sometimes. But I’ve done research on him tge day they signed him. I even knew they had a measure of interest last year.

Look up his known issues in anchoring and then tell me it’s a good idea putting him at guard.

And what do you do in Week 6 when Tyron is hurt again?
Gold star for you.

You kick Tyler outside and plug in Chuma / Farniok / Draft pick…whoever wins the competition in pre season.

Waletsko I can buy into. People I know have also been singing his praises. He’s had a great offseason. But he’s a swing tackle at this point. That praise is legit. The Ball talk is ‘Balloney’.

And that’s what you want to tell yourself. And why Josh Ball becomes a valid option to try to justify it.
We are talking about their backups, not their starters. Tyler Smith will most likely start at LG. Tyron is going to play at LT. They just need to figure out a contingency plan if Tyron misses a few starts. They are comfortable with the tackle position, will probably add a Guard in the draft to compete with these backups.

You are. Because you’re fixated on receivers so you tell yourself it’s ‘OK’ when it’s not.

You’d rather put scrubs out there blocking so you can draft a 4th receiver this year. That’s bad planning.

“If”? When the last Tim he hasn’t missed significant time? And your plan is to rely on the unreliable until it inevitably breaks and you have to shuffle in scrubs. Again that’s a terrible.

49ers have more offensive skilled players then anyone in the conference and perhaps the league, outside of their QB.
their defense is good too. their offense is based on running the ball effectively, thus their trade. but I rather add to defense than offense. almost always. and I always like to build inside out.

So what’s your solution?
I’d invest in a true starting option on the offensive line if the value is there.

For instance if Avila is there at 26, I don’t consider that a reach. That way, when Tyron Smith gets hurt again, I’m not scrambling and putting an inadequate player at left guard.

So reach for need, got it.

Also - even if you disagree you’re fully
aware drafting a G in the 1st doesn’t mean he’s going to be good right away right? There were 2 Gs in last years class head
and shoulders above Avila and both were bad as rookies.

If you think it’s a reach, sure. That’s your prerogative. Many considered Tyler Smith ‘a reach’ last year too.

That’s the best part. If they ride it out with Tyron Smith at left tackle, that gives the rookie a few weeks to get better acclimated to the pro game until Tyron is hurt again.

At least then you have a capable option and aren’t talking about a scrub out there.

At some point you need to add more playmakers on offense. No issue adding another defensive player or two, but have to add more offensive firepower.

Tyler was a reach last year…he was a unanimous 2nd rounder. We’ll see in a year or 2 if he outplays that projection but he’s literally the definition of a reach.

And again - you’re assuming the rookie will be good. Last year there were 2 legit 1st rounders and they weren’t good. I wouldn’t bank on a lesser touted prospect to come in and be better than those guys year 1.

“We’ll see?”

We have seen. The player exceeded any and all expectations. He single-handedly saved the season last year. This team was dead without his performance.

If you’re denying that, you’re being willfully ignorant and dishonest.

And you’re assuming- based solely on last year by your own comments - that they won’t.

I love Tyler and am pulling for him. Think he showed big time flashes last year.

But he was mediocre at best overall. Led the NFL in penalties, bottom 10 in sacks allowed, outside of the top 50 in pass block win rate and a low PFF grade.

Again maybe he develops into a pro bowl LT and I hope he does…but he was far from it last year.

If that’s what PFF thinks? I’d question what they’re looking at. And any ‘grades’ they’re giving.

The same PFF said this while putting him on the All-Rookie team:

LG TYLER SMITH, DALLAS COWBOYS

Did I cheat a little to include Smith here when he only played 121 snaps at guard all season? Sure. But Smith and Jones both deserved the love, so an executive decision was made.

Billed as a project coming out of Tulsa, Smith was much better than that as a rookie. He finished with a 71.4 overall grade on the season.

He saved the 2022 season.

Correct. 71 which is like the definition of mediocre. And then there’s every other metric that I included.

Good for him. Meanwhile guys like Raihmann and Lucas had similar if not better grades and were taken 50+ picks later.
And if you think they’re better, that’s on you. But don’t take my word for it. Ask around.

It’s too early to tell who’s going to be better long term but early metrics showed they played at a similar level in year 1 with the only difference wing the massive gap on when they were drafted.

Early indicators show that those guys provided waaaaaaaaaaay more value than taking Tyler in the 1st. Which is basically my whole point.
