luck, yes. But man, its been 27 years. Not sure if thats luck or we doing something wrong. I get it. U and me see it the same. Its just at some point the main goal must be met. Even a ground hog see's his shadow once a decade.
For most of that 27 years it has been Jerry and the front office screwing things up.. But the 1999 team had bad luck when Mike went down.. Then the 2006 team had the ball slip out of Romo's hands and the 2007 team stupidly changed its RB rotation and brought back two injured receivers just in time to NOT be able to score in the playoffs.. Then the 2011 team had the Romo hand injury, then the 2013 had the Romo back injury, then the 2014 team .. well you know.. and the 2016 team had a badly flawed defense and a rookie at QB.. What's different about the current team is that you feel like they will almost always be in position to make that run.. and if they get a break or two they WILL break through. I never felt that way about the Garrett teams.. They always seemed to be built wrong with glaring holes that opponents could exploit or that one injury could derail. The combination of McClay, McCarthy and maybe Jerry getting older and getting out of the way more seems to be resulting in the team focusing on the right things .. We have a top 10 QB about to enter his absolute prime while being backed by a top 5 defense. That would bode well for any team.

They had Frank Reich trading for his QB and gave up way more than needed. It was a stupid trade by the Colts, and the Eagles were lucky. But our Eagles lovers on here act as it the Eagles out smarted them. Which they did, in a way, but that never happens if Reich was not the HC at the time.

Dallas has no control over that. But some Dallas fans use that to whine.
I'm willing to bet those Debbie Downers are more Eagles fans than Cowboys fans, especially the one using Nick Sirriani's pic as his avatar handle.

There is nothing to indicate that they wanted Kincaid.

Based on an interview with the TEs coach, Schoonmaker's blocking was a huge part of the reason they drafted him.

Kincard is not a blocker...
Agreed I think the story coming out is that they really like LaPorta best. While that may seem nuts to those of us paying attention to the Mocks and Media ( I am guilty of this), its eems that the NFL FO's felt similarly since LaPorta ended up being the 2nd TE taken.

Yeah, whatever.
Your boy had his hand picked DC alongside him too upon being hired too. How did that Nolan guy work out again? And dont get it twisted, yes McCarthy still wanted to keep Nolan
It's a coordinator coached team of which McCarthy has absolutely no say in defensive game day input and none prior to scapegoating Moore out of his job.
Good luck with both this coach and QB.

I'll continue to root for the helmet and colors.
Are you saying you miss Garrett? That's a weirdo thing to say

Qqq

You referred to Moore as an albatross. McCarthy then claims he has now become a run the damn ball and rest the defense kinda coach vice his previous 30 years of saying otherwise.

So yeah,
Kellen Moore was SCAPEGOATED because in your eyes he was to blame for team failure. NO stretch.

It aint got nothing to do with any personal/emotional link to a coach.

You needed an outlet and could not accept that the QB1 and HC were as much or imo THE reason for team failure but you chose the "blame it on Moore" route like many others.
I could care less for him as a QB but I always looked first at who Moore was stuck with at QB.
THAT was my determining factor.
But yeah you scapegoted/blamed him in the same way as the defense , Zeke, o-line and of course Jerry has been scapegoated in the past.

It's all good.
Cowboys!
Well ok then…whatever…

Spags' notes from the draft. Good right up on how the Deuce Vaughn pick went down in the war room.
They huddled and decided to go with Vaughn, as he was the top of the board of the last players left. While his dad was out of the room.
Then told him when he came back in. He did not advocate to draft his son. Just let it play out.

This is what McClay said about drafts. As to picking later in the draft.

"It's the penalty of being good," said Will McClay, the Cowboys vice president of player personnel. "You set your board, and everybody has guys they like and think they can add value to (the team). But we don't control that. We control our board and what we think about the next guy that's up there.
"It is what it is. There is nothing you can do about it."

More fans need to understand this better IMO.
Understand stating the obvious? Still doesn't explain why they refuse to move around the draft and target players. You absolutely control adding value to your team. Just ask Howie Roseman.

They started that cycle of multi firsts by dealing their terrible QB for a haul.

When was the last time we traded a player for a premium pick? That doesn’t happen here.

I didn’t hurt them that the Saints were willing to trade a future first to get a DB while not having a QB. Lucky it wasn’t higher.
The Eagles traded Sam Bradford and Carson Wentz for first round picks. Howie is more of a magician then he is a GM.

Yeah, sure spot on man.
A post history check of mine might be in order for ya.
Wrap your head around this though.
The 3 headed triangle to NFL success is determined by excellence at the GM, HC, and QB1 positions.
The current Dallas Cowboys GM, HC and QB1 ARE and HAVE BEEN doing a poor job imo.
And I am not the biggest fan of any of them.

But then it gets better.
The Cowboys are still my team.

And I got just as much right to share my opinion as the next.

ONE NFL front office said this and ONE took La Porta. Does not mean a majority of them felt that way.

Romo and a slick ball; Romo's injuries; Dak being a rookie and his one bad year came when the D for the first time in FAR TOO LONG stepped up. Some serious coaching and front office mistakes.
Put it all together and its been just enough to keep us as pretenders and not contenders for the SB.
BUT with the exception of the Patriot Machine, no team in the NFL makes it to the SB and wins it without some good luck. In addition to talent coaching and a good front office.

30 years of nothing and you're supporting this figure head saying "it's the penalty of being good"? lol

Where is all that "good"?

Will McClay has seen us win 4 Wild Card games in his career. That's it. You shouldn't let this dude act like we're just too darn good to get better.
The Cowboys may have had their problems advancing in the post season, and some of those personnel decisions no doubt can be traced back to the Jones' (especially with respect to contract extensions).

Criticize the GM all you want, but to criticize McClay and the scouts when the Cowboys have arguably been one of the best at drafting over the past several years is asinine. You're barking up the wrong tree.

Imagine if you will a team owned and GMd by the Jones' WITHOUT McClay's input, then get back to me.

Some of you folks will just never be happy. For the last, upteen millionth time, the Jones' own and manage this team and there is N O T H I N G that is within our control to change that. Your other option is to root for another team; by all accounts we have a lot of fans of the Eagles organization on this board. Great! Root for the Eagles then.

It’s all conjecture…Kincaid would have been a natural Schultz replacement and given Dak a big target that can get open. I sorta feel like that’s what they coveted over a blocking TE. But maybe they feel Ferguson will fill Schultz’s role fine.
The story seems to be that they were actually targeting LaPorta but he went far higher than the pundits expected.

Need a trading partner. Can’t move around just because you want them too.
maybe the other teams price was too high for the value. Then fans whine because their player wasn’t taken.
Or Dallas offer was too low.

I read where Dallas and KC had a possible trade in place. And it sounded like a decent trade for Dallas.
Then KC slipped and made it known they too wanted Mazi. As Dallas May thought they could get him at 31.

So Dallas said no, and took Mazi.
I would wager my house that if that happened. Fans would say great trade…until Mazi was off the board, then would turn around and say Jerry is stupid.

And you know that is true.

The draft didn’t fall the way they hoped it would imo. I think they wanted Kincaid in round 1 and probably would have gone OL in round 2 in that instance. Buffalo trading up forced us to focus on the trenches in round 1 which may work out for us.
Their draft didn't fall their way because they are playing checkers while the other GMs are playing chess.

Jerry and Stephen are the blind leading the blind

Jerry loves you so much. You're the ultimate fan. You might be whining the whole time you're on that pole, but you still on that pole. 12 months out of the year. You're a like a stripper who complains about the men who come give you money. Yet here you are grinding that pole. Jerry throwing money at you all year. He loves you. Jerry's little whiny stripper.
And then he has the nerve to say he's not hooked

This dude saying "some of you folks will just never be happy" like this team hasn't been a failure for the past 30 years.
They haven't won a world or even NFC championship in the past 30 years.

That does not equate to being a failure. A failure is living under .500 every year and never sniffing the playoffs. Dallas was the #1 seed in 2007 and '16. Also made it to the divisional round in other years, including last year. When it gets to that point, advancing or not advancing to the NFC championship game is up to the players and coaches -- but the bottom line is they were put in position personnel-wise to get to that point.

Again, y'all can b!tch and moan all you want...it won't do any good. But have fun anyway..

If you don't win what do you do?

If you don't succeed what do you do?
