What Happens If Tyron Is A Below Average LT in 2023?

If he proves to be a “liability”, I imagine they’d slide Tyler over and insert Edoga at LG. That, or try Waletzko at LT. But why worry? There’s no guarantees, plus, what could we do about it anyway?
I agree. We drafted Tyler just for that reason. Edoga or Farniok will get tested I am sure. Thats why we have camp, to sort these things out. The rest is a matter of trusting the staff, scouts. I just hope they see something that we don't yet.

Some people NEED something to stress over.

When it comes to replacing Tyron - be it by injury or performance - I don't buy that Tyler is the definitive answer. If, say, Waletzko is a better LT than Farniok is a LG, it makes way more sense to plug in Waletzko at LT than it does Tyler.

The question is really. Is having tyron at LT better than one of these backups at LG. Since tyron is at LT, Tyler will play guard. But it seems if Tyler kicks out to guard it's cause Tyler is hurt so one of these lesser known guys gets plugged into guard. Tyrons heath and level of play when healthy will be key indicators when the FO decides to move on.

Then Tyler takes his place next year and we draft a lineman high or we draft an LT and keep Tyler at guard

How many times will this o-line face a once in a generation talent like Parsons this season? Not even Tyron in his prime would win every rep against MP. Time to look at this with some more perspective.

Interesting it will be with Asim Richards as well. Can't wait to find out if he can be a factor.
My thinking is they will go with Tyler Smith at LT once Tyron is done and maybe Richards could factor in at guard. But from what I have seen of practice it looks like Richards has only been playing tackle so we'll see.

What happens if Tyron has the best year of his career?
The answer to "what if he has a great season" is obvious....we'll be set. But that possibly doesn't require a backup plan. The other possibility DOES require a backup plan...

But why is everyone so afraid of contemplating the OP's hypothetical? All I hear is "he won't be...he won't be...he won't be"

I sure hope the coaches don't use that logic.

Anytime u have a player over 30...u better start planning for these What Ifs...and not just stick ur head in the sand and say "he'll be fine". He very well may be fine.. but he's in the downside of his career. U plan for the worst (at least if the worst has a reasonable chance of happening, as this does) but hope for the best.

The truth is....they'd just have to give him constant help with a TE and/or RB...thus reducing the number of receivers we have out on routes. And we'd have to lean on the run, and do more quick drops.

That's not a death sentence though..... but people are acting like it's an absolute impossibility that this older player with bad injury history turns in a below average season this year.

If Tyron is below average then it's A) Waletzko or a draft pick next year st LT or B) Tyler at LT and Richards at LG.

If Tyron is one of the 5 best OL we have, why would he come off the field? That makes no sense. The better question is what happens if he isn’t one of the 5 best ?

I want to start by saying I don’t think his losses to Parsons necessarily indicate he’s declined that far. Parsons is having an unreal camp apparently so I’m not going to pin it on Tyron.

But, we do most of our what-ifs involving Tyron and injuries. What happens if his physical deterioration is so much so that he’s an ineffective LT against the better edges?

Do the Cowboys have the ‘nads to sit him? How would they configure the new line-up?
I doubt he gets benched, but its very plausible he may now be an average LT when healthy. I think thats ok provided he stays mostly healthy. Personally I think the only other legit option is Tyler Smith, who may only be playing guard because LT is Tyron's spot.

Below average would be quite a drop for him. At most, we might can expect him to be average when he plays. The biggest issue with Tyron is always how much he will play.

I think going against another All-Pro and losing some is no reflection that Tyron is going to be below average. In fact, we'd be complaining about Parsons if he could never beat Tyron.

LOL.

How's all that gonna work out when Martin isn't around either? You starting OGs could be Edoga and Farniok. That would be one of the bottom 10-12 OG rotations in the NFL. I swear if anyone here says that's a good pairing................ hahaha.

You had best hope Tyron plays well and Martin comes back because the alternative is a season with a really questionable (and likely poor) OL.

We don't have anyone better. They won't sit him, if he's healthy

Parcells used to say “You can’t have steak on every plate”, which you can’t nowdays. Plus, we can’t do anything about it, and life is too short. That’s why I’ve chosen not to worry about it. That said, I think many are underestimating a couple of our backups.

With Martin out we don't need to have to replace 2 starting OLINE men.
