CFZ Does the Diggs Injury Necessitate a Big Move?

Let me preface this thread with this: Let us all wish Diggs a speedy recovery and return to the field. I am sure he is absolutely devastated by the realization that he will not get to play in what is shaping up to be a special Cowboys season.

With Diggs out for the season, Dallas is down an All-Pro cornerback on what is likely the league's best defensive unit. Combined with Gilmore, Dallas had a pair of lockdown DBs that made it very difficult for opposing offenses to throw. Without #7, you go from a CB duo that most of the league would envy to just good with Gilmore + Bland + Lewis.

To win anything in this league, you have to good but luck is a major factor. Nearly every team that makes the Superbowl does so on the back of good injury luck. The Cowboys appear to be as good as anyone right now and the NFC is totally wide open outside of SF, Philly, and Dallas. This is likely the best chance that Dallas has had at making to the NFCCG or further in a very long time. Do you jump on this window at the expense of future draft capital, or hope that the roster you have built is deep enough to sustain the loss of one of the NFL's best cornerbacks in Week 2?

My question is this:

Staying put and observing the performance of the defense without Diggs against the Cardinals and Patriots may be the wisest move, but what happens if teams start being able to move the ball on you in the passing game?

If you are the Cowboys front office, does this injury make you think that another big time addition via a trade may be necessary to get you past Philly and SF?
No. I doubt we make one at all actually

Sign Casey Heyward.

In reality, it will be

Gilmore, Bland outside.
Lewis in the slot.
Noah, Muk, Goodwin, Thomas as depth.

Goodwin takes spot on 53.
If we is willing to go on the PS. With guys coming back from IR we probably cant afford to go 6 deep at CB

Jerry's reaction to the Diggs injury will probably be some kind up upgrade to the hologram or some other stupid announcement.

wonder if lance becomes a trade chip
Personally I wouldn’t but I’d reach out to Carolina about Jaycee Horn. Granted he’s injury prone but he’s good when healthy and we could slowly bring him along when healthy

my guess would be a trade for a starter, to add to the mix, but not for a Ramsey type. This one hurts

That’s life in the NFL. No trading for anotherCB. Just play on.

As we saw in preseason, the defense is deep. Losing Diggs is a blow, no question, but it’s not insurmountable. The secondary was in worse shape at the end of last season. The Cowboys made it to the divisional round where defense wasn’t the reason they lost.

Resign Deion? He's the wrong side of 50 with half a foot, but he is still probably better than most of the other guys on the street. I mean Jerry can get him out of whatever contract he has at Colorado, right?

I'm guessing we go with 3 or even 4 safeties(some seem to play LB at times) with 2 corners alot of the time. It'll either be Lewis with Bland and Gilmore or Bland and Gilmore with 3 safeties.

..plenty of CB's out there. Gotta do the homework though.

Not my job. ;)..

Go with DaRon Bland and play Jourdan Lewis in the slot

If there's a good solid rotational guy I can see a trade. If a good solid veteran is out there for something reasonable absolutely do it on a rental. They're not going to do a Jerry and start throwing 1st rounders to try to save the day though.

I think they'll roll with Bland and Lewis though. Don't underestimate Wilson coming back at safety to try to scheme this thing.

Richard Sherman?

Not yet. I'd put out some feelers and see if what's available is a substantial upgrade from the current group, but we have to see if a trade is even necessary.
