Better To Bite The Bullet Than Extend Dak

So let's play it safe and pay Dak 60 mil a year and let the rest of the team lose good players. We can fill in around Dak with draft picks. But just remember Dak needs everything around him perfect. So you have to draft Oline and Dline and hope the guys can be instant starters. And hope they have an easy schedule so they can make the playoffs.

Same narrative when everyone said at 40M per year we will be handicapped. Yet last year we had 20M in cap space at season start that's with dead cap for Cooper. This year at season start we had 25M and had just signed Diggs, Steele and negotiating with CD

A capalogistt you are not.

Maybe if we had more money to pay free agent tackles that would help. So Dak’s contract is up at the end of the year…are you going to advocate he be paid top-dollar or are you going to keep your same energy about the inadequate tackles that hurt Dak? Because if you’re saying Dak needs all-pro tackles to be good…then…why pay him top dollar? Can’t have it both ways.
Steele just got paid and 82.5M contract. He is coming off injury. Less than one year removed.

Smith was under contract.

You can call edoga whatever you want to call him. He won't be around next year. Fact is we did sign a FA backup tackle. Just a bad one.

BTW Smith will probably be resigned for another couple of years. Despite his annual time off.

And right on cue, the "you don't understand the cap" argument

It's like they all have their playbook/marching orders from the Dak compound. :muttley:

Even if I hadn't seen a second of the game and just visited this forum to find out the results, I would be certain that the cowboys won the minute the Dak faithful start talking about it in terms of what "he" did.

Had the eagles won the game in question, we'd be discussing it in terms of how the "team" collapsed.

For all the discussions on the main page about if the game is rigged, this is the most rigged game of all

Daks adherents make sure he gets all the credit for wins and absolutely zero responsibility for losses.

Dak and his agent should be sending you all Christmas cards:muttley:
Is this any different than Dak detractors crediting everyone including folks on row 345 for any win. Including saying it's because the other team didn't play up to par

And then blame him for every loss even if we scored 30 points. Even the RB fumbles and WR fumbles were blamed on him.

Lance Fields. Bryce Young. Daniel Jones. Robert Griffin the 3rd. List goes on. Careful what you wish for, all I’m espousing.
Every single one went to a team loaded with all-pros and pooped the bed. Good point.

Can you geniuses really not grasp how valuable a good QB is? At this point you are aggressively acting football dumb.

I know that Vegas is not dumb, but that award is almost exclusively a QB award. The best QB nearly always wins. They cannot differentiate how important McCaffrey is to his offense versus how important Jackson is to his offense. So the QB gets it as he always touches the ball every play.

Purdy is not even in the same universe as to how good of a football player that McCaffrey is. He is on a team with an extremely good line with exceptional playmakers. His biggest skill thus far is not giving the ball to the other team (he didn’t do so well versus Baltimore). Feed your playmakers and don’t do dumb stuff-win lots of games (also do not dedicate yourself when the lights come on-something lots of guys cannot do).

With quarterback salaries expected to reach $60 million, the Cowboys are in no real rush to extend Dak.
He's never won anything, and hasn't proven that he can show up in big games. Instead, he has struggled every time the Cowboys needed him to be the reason they were able to get to the next level.
With a $59 million cap hit coming, the Cowboys will be better off to ride it out and demand that Dak earn his next extension.
He hasn't yet.
So you are advocating for a rebuild? Then we should not resign Lamb, or Fergi or Pollard or Smith. Not sure if we have tradable assets.

I would love for Jerry to give these Dak haters exactly what they want and not resign Dak. I guarantee you after 2-3 years of Trey Lance or whichever other QB, they will be wishing we had Dak back.

Good thing Jerry and Company are not as ignorant. Just hope Dak is willing to give the Cowboys a little discount on his next upcoming extension.
I would not want to go through the nightmare that would follow not extending Dak. It is a good thing Jerry and Co. are not as ignorant. As for the discount you wish for Dak to agree to, I'm not seeing it happen. He will drain every drop from Jerry that he can muster.

Dak IS NOT a good quarterback.
He's been coddled more than any player in the NFL despite his repeated choking in big games.
He's been surrounded by talent and has been the reason that talent didn't succeed every year.
Stop ignoring the facts and his history.
He doesn't deserve an extension.

I like how you conveniently left out next year. It's called kicking the can down the road.

Yes. Every team kicks the can down the road. At some point you take your lumps. End up with a top 5 pick and hope there is a good QB class and you get lucky.

Steele is not all-pro and Tyron was having an unexpected all-pro run this season. Tyron we got on an injury discount (for a reason) and Steele as a saloon door that figured it out in the right season ...but is also coming off injury. Dak eating so much cap space means he can't also have all-pro answers at tackle...HE must make up for that talent deficit since he created the financial deficit to get the top talent you claim he needs to succeed.

Steele was solid.last year. Since his injury he is not the same. Why we handed him a 82.5 M contract? Not sure. Usually takes one season to fully recover.

Saying Smith is having an unexpected all pro season is naive. Smith when he plays is dominant top 5 tackle. His problem is his annual back injuries.

And again, we heard the narrative before. 40M we can't sign anyone. Yet we signed Cooper, Smith, Lawrence, Diggs, Steele and so forth.

So which all pro tackles were available for us to sign and we couldn't.

You are not a capalogist for sure.

Tell me how many FAs we wanted and didn't sign because we couldn't.

Let's just get rid of dak. How do you make this team better?

This amateurish cap argument has been debunked 100 times. You are just very late to the party

Since when? For most of his career he's had an above average offensive line in front of him.
The conversation was about All Pro tackles, not an above average offensive line. And even on that note, Dak has literally never had Tyron Smith for a full season.

It’s no different than now. Nothing changes. Salary cap goes up everything stays the same.
