McKeon - (if eligible for PS) extra blocker for goal line, just in case

But if they want to put Luepke in more, which it looks like they do, someone at TE probably loses.

They played the Luepke/Schoonmaker combo a lot against Washington.

A draft class cannot be graded after 1 season, yes, doesn't look good thus far, but still to early to judge.

If Ferguson got hurt, Schoonmaker would get targets and his receiving production would go up a lot.

I think the complaint is where he was picked. All-Pro TEs drop to lower rounds. Jason Witten was a 3rd round pick. Young buck Fergy was 4th. I was never concerned about TE, and felt like most Cowboys fans saw his potential after being a playmaker his rookie year.

The complaint with Schoon is for a complementary big body at TE, and not much of a playmaker, did we really had to give up a second rounder for that? It won't bite us this year. It will bite us next year and the year after when we start losing vets like Tyron, Zack Martin, Big Hank, Tank, Gillmore, Cooks.... or solid depth players that we can't afford to re-sign such as Armstrong and Fowler. That pick would have helped. Ironic how all the Mazi/Schoon advocates are all about big picture long-term development, but can't see this other side of the coin.

Agree but remember we wanted a big body there to help our run game, and oddly when losing Zeke left a big void in that area having ignored that need all year.

These are the same types of arguments Cowboys fans had in the Barry Switzer, Chain Gailey, Dave Campo days before Parcells shook-up the organization, and Will McClay took over personnel, and Stephen got more involved.

All about the long-term prospects, super glass half-full mentality, and some Jethro loyalists name calling those who questioned him. There was no other choice. You had to hope the guys up top knew what they were doing because the drafts looked rough and worse, the team record was never there.

Yes, no one gets developed in one year, some players take a long time. But rarely do you not get a good idea of what the player will bring long-term. Anyone who saw Fergy play last year could have guessed he would be the starter this year. Same for Bland. In the opportunities they were given, they were playmakers, and that's all the coaches are looking for. No rocket science to it. Rest is on the player - learning, dedication, treat body right, off field, etc..

So far the worst draft in a long time. We've gotten the most out of the 7th pick. Pretty bad, Overshown looked like the best pick. Would've liked to seen him this season. Maybe some of the other guys will develop but if Mazi bombs totally, that won't be good.

Overall roster is outstanding. That is a big reason why they won the division and are the number 2.

I mean they were at the back of every round in the draft. I don’t think they had any intentions of finding a Jalen Carter at 26.

Yeah, what a difference a year makes for sure.
'22 group fielded multiple starters/big contributors.

'23 group prizes are 2 UDFAs.
Aubrey and Bass, and by a wide margin imo.

Jack Campbell would have for Quinn’s scheme perfect but the lions took him at 20. They also took the rb Gibbs who they were high on. They should have pulled the trigger on la porta. But nobody believed he was a first round talent. Lb was the biggest need though

Yeah this is simply not true. What contenders hit in the first 3 rounds? Who’s relying on rookie contributors? 49ers sure as hell aren’t. Philly has Carter who was a top 10 pick…Lions probably for this with Laporta, Gibbs and the rest of those guys but if you have a bunch of rookies starting you are not a real contender.

Considering Carter was considered a top 5 prospect I doubt they did either. But our draft still looks rather subpar at this point.

He does look lean. Read where he lost 30 pounds since training camp. Reports are he’s around 290 pounds.
