Biggest mistake the cowboys made was giving Prescott the nod in 2016. Was argurably the best chance we had to win a superbowl. Granted that is if Romo stayed healthy and the team was likely his anyways in 2017.

Dak has had premier OLs, premier running game, multiple 1k recievers, above average TEs, vastly improved defenses bar shutting down the run, top ranked scoring defenses. Sometimes a combination of multiple of these things each year

Most quarterbacks would kill to have been surronded by that much talent.
No QB wants to watch the defense give up 200+ rushing in playoffs games...Romo liked the 2014 line..probably didnt like watching the defense give up plays to Rodgers either..not saying Romo nor Dak was not part of the problem but they certainly have never been the only problem to anyone who knows football..NEITHER has been here for the 28 years of FO failure that we are witnessing...

The 2016 'team chemistry euphoria' season shook my head harder than the 2014 'Dean Blandino is an <expletive> and 2007 'Dallas collapsed 52-seconds before the half' season. That is, it was until this past 'a freaking seventh seed is up 41-16 at the end of the third quarter' season...

Hurts got the deal he wanted without having to go through tags and such ..thats my point Dak would've have done that in 2019 had the Jones not gone to the media and played chicken with the QB THEY wanted..."How is that playing chicken?" because Dak's agent knew the deals comming down the pipline for QB's just like Hurts agent...The Eagles wanted Hurts so they didnt go to the media and start negotiating through them..they wanted the QB so they extended him as soon as they could for the least he would take..thats what you do if your sold on your franchise QB...

If the "League leading" offer was your top line then you get a plan B at QB and trade him because you dont feel he is worth it...you dont battle it out in the media then give in 2 years later because you were always going to sign him.
How on earth do you know any of the bolded to be true. Talk about letting your feelings color your opinion! I am still waiting for an explanation of how an offer to make him the highest paid player in the league is playing chicken. They literally offered him the biggest contract ever given. If anything, Dak played chicken (and won) by "betting on himself" and playing on the tag.

You skipped over the part where "the deal he wanted" worked out for both parties, where the deal Dak wanted didn't.

I agree with your last paragraph but it has literally nothing to with the point being discussed.

Dak was never signing a contract longer than 4 years. He made that clear. He played chicken and the hillbilly billionaires blinked first.

And here we are. Waiting to see who blinks first this time, while staring at a massive cap hit this season, or a massive cap hit in four years if the Jones blink again. Neither option good. Which one is better is up for debate.

What do you mean nothing to do with it..Dak didnt "Force" them to give him that contract they could've said no and gone a diferent direction..again your acting like Dak can make this FO do anything...THEY do it, they negotiate in the media with players THEY want then get smacked because they dont have a plan B because there was never a question on wether they would sign the player..that has everything to do with what this is about AND why this FO is so bad...If Hurts didnt want the deal why would he sign it? he didnt have "Prove it" tag years with built up anymosity because the Eagles dont negotiate through the media trying to look like good "Football" guys...they wanted Hurts so they signed him long term as soon as they could to the least amount he would take..how does that need to be proven there is a contract in black and white...

This is going to sound a bit simplistic, but this would be my offer to Dak:

A similar deal to the last one he signed, but this time make it easier to trade him (no NTC) and guarantee less of his money. Make him bet on himself, like the OP says. If he doesn't agree to that, then it's really saying something.

Agree. Been saying the run defense has been an achilles heel for ages now. However our defense did its job in both SF games. Rodgers destroyed us in 2016 and the Rams along with this past GB game they ran all over us

I don’t think he’s ever gonna have an O-Line like he’s had the last 8 years. Theres constantly 2 first team all-pros on it and in 2016 had 3 first team all pros.

Zeke won 2 rushing titles while he was here.

I just don’t see it getting better than what he’s already had in those areas.
Sooo....if that is the case. Why do you think it will get better with another QB? And though you have two All-Pros on the o-line, you still have to have blocking. Let's be honest....Steele had a bad year. Our Center was decent at best. I'm even surprised our LT Smith was an All-Pro. To me, he didn't have that good of a year.

It could end up being a decade of watching the Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, etc show.
Hutchison, Carter, and Wright have exactly the same amount of Super Bowls as Dak. It’s not like we’re losing Troy Aikman over here or Tom Brady.

Dak is made to look better because of all that around him where a good QB would’ve been able to take advantage of all that.

Dak, much like Romo, was/is a weak link.

The QB cannot be the weak link on an offense.

4 year $180 million. Same as Cousins but I would Guarantee $100 while Cousins gets $90 Guaranteed.
That's a $5 Million per year raise from his previous Contract, 4 years $160 Million.
But I would add incentives to reach $50 Million:
$1 Million for Division Playoff Win
$2 Million for NFC Championship Win
$2 Million for Super Bowl Win

He has 2 Wild Card Playoff wins during his last contract.
A $5 Million per year raise for fairly mediocre results is more than reasonable.
If he looks a that as an insult, then I would let him play out the last year of his deal and deal with the consequences.
I like it except your incentive are too weak.
$5 Million for Division Playoff Win
$10 Million for NFC Championship Win
$20 Million for Super Bowl Win

Odds are he and the team wont do more than the 1st one.
But if he did do the other 2, he would deserve at least what I put. and the whole team should get big bonus pay too.

I think all that would affect the cap, so dont know if it is doable, but thats how it should be.
Maybe reduce his yearly to 20 mil and have those bonuses for results. He would then get 55 for a SB year.

If I'm Jones, I'd find a trade partner for Dak. Someone interested in paying him. Resign him, voiding the no trade clause and trade him.

That’s not really a great argument for moving on from Dak. Would you like Joe Burrow as the QB? Would you like Josh Allen az the QB? Those guys haven’t won Super Bowls either. Only 4 current QBs have won a Super Bowl - Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodriguez, Matthew Stafford. Besides those 4 I guess all other QBs are garbage?

It’s really not fair comparing Dak to Hutchinson, Carter, and wright. Even the biggest Dak hater should should be able to acknowledge he is better than those scrubs.

Dak will get to play this year and then get a massive new deal early next season. Dak has all the leverage. Dak's manager already fleeced Jerry once and is ready to do it again.
Jerry never gets fleeced twice! Jerry will offer him a fair contract that he most likely will turn down when he becomes a free agent after the 2024 season.

This may shock you but so was Aikman. Aikman was garbage until there was a super team around him. Aikman had the coaches. Aikman had a RB. Aikman had WRs and a TE. Aikman had, arguably one of the best o-lines in football history. Aikman had a Defense to back him up. They made Troy look better. He made them look better. That's what a football team does. Dak is a very good QB. He's not perfect by any means. Hell....Mahones didn't look good this past season but he has a very good team around him. Dak is not, BY FAR, the weakest link on the offense. He wouldn't be in the MVP race if he was the weakest link, no matter what the situation is. The OL was the weakest link. Then the RB. Then coaching. How many times McCarthy called plays we all questioned? Or time management? Naw...Dak is not the weakest link by any means.

I agree with this, and I stated this after the season ended that imo Jerry and his clown son are probably steaming that Dak has that type of leverage over them, which makes sense that Jerry was fanatic about signing Lance last year, that he didn’t even talk with the rest of the FO or the coaches, I believe the negotiations will be a lot different this time.

Jerry Jones and his son are in no position to “make” France do anything. What they have foolishly done is make getting away from the Cowboys attractive. One year away from free agency is too enticing for a great agent to ignore. Dak Prescott does not negotiate his contract. A professional agent does it for 3% of the value of the deal. France will inform Jerry what the value of the deal is going to be and Jerry gets to say “yes” or “no”. That is the extent of the negotiations.

Did you see how fast he picked up Lance?
Didn't even tell a soul..............And these Dak-Bots hate that move with a passion.
Fun times again at the CZ!!!!
And I bet Lance will never play a down for Dallas unless it’s garbage time.
