The bum Cooper Rush went 4-1 without an elite LT in 2022.

That kills your uninformed 3-14 take.

Didn't he have Tyron Smith playing then? Even if not, Tyler Smith was taken round 1 that year to play LT or LG. So my argument is still valid. He is still a top class tackle there if we need him there.

Not to mention that, assuming we go QB next year, he'd need someone solid at Lt to protect him. What's he supposed to do? Be a ghost and have the pass rushers go past him? Mind-blowing. Every QB needs a solid LT. So, if he insists on having a new QB, then the pick last night should give a rookie QB a better chance at success.
Unless I am wrong the '25 QB class is said to not be good which caused the run on this years craziness

This is an unpopular opinion but I tend to agree. Personally, I think the O line coach is very important and a good one can make a line of 3rd rounders look good while a bad one can make a line of 1st rounders look bad. The team should be replacing Solari, not dumping a bunch of high value assets into his crappy system in hopes that it works.
Now this is a well-thought-out and effectively articulated argument for not taking a LT in the first. I could support this type of argument.

No. Tyron missed every game Rush started.

Your argument is not valid. It was misinformed as your 1st sentence proves.

Well, if your only qualification is "He's not Dak", you're in luck. The Cowboys can still grab Rattler, Pratt, Milton, or maybe even Travis.

Good point. I could see Travis possibly being the 5th round pick. He's got to sit out this season this season with an ACL injury, so using a 5th on him would be a worthwhile investment. He can sit, it'd be a low risk move, and, if he's what he was at Florida State, we could end up with the next franchise QB who would've been a 1st round pick if not for the injury. That's probably a win win .

Not really. Especially when you consider Tyler Smith was on the team playing there. Frankly, even if we went JPJ to play LG, my argument would still hold as Tyler can play LT or LG at a high level. As evidenced by the fact he kept Rush on his feet. He also did well last year when Tyron was out at LT. So, again, he did a good job and he still shows how important protecting the QB's blindside is. Conversely, consider RG3. Had a lot of great skills. Had a crap oline. Out of the league. Happens a lot .

the cowboys spent a 4th this year on a QB. Unfortunately he may also walk in 25 as a FA

Yes, I know, but it'd still be a 1 year bridge next season in all likelihood. He will have a chance to see if he can be the future. Otherwise, we're probably drafting someone next year. And, if they're concerned with that with Lance, then there's still nothing stopping them from taking Travis. Especially after what the Falcons did.

A LT, really?

The best case scenario is he’s the best LT in the NFL for the next decade just like our previous LT was for the previous decade.

Tyron Smith never saw past the divisional round.

Cooper Rush, a QB NOBODY wanted when they had the opportunity, is 4-1 without Tyron Smith playing.

LT is a position you sure up AFTER the important positions are taken care of first.

A LT is the shingles on an already built house.

We drafted a guy that if anything less than 1st team all pro is a downgrade. We should’ve just kept Tyron if we valued LT that highly going into the draft, and drafted an actual position that will affect the W/L record with our 1st pick.

Now, on to the 2nd round where we will be drafting a running back without a knee to really hammer on the point that we’re an unserious franchise.
Lt is the most important in the Line.... you know the one that protects the QBs blind side....lol they wanted tackle over G and C because they DO NOT want to move smith back to tackle.

OK, so who would you have taken?

Not that I am on board with Guyton. You could have convinced me to take Newton in that spot.
I wanted Barton. But Guyton at the bottom of the first is about where he was projected. I think he is a solid pick

its as solid as they were going to get, adding the early 3rd is a win for this FO..i dont get to say that often...they actually won on a trade..

I would have preferred Barton myself. But getting that extra 3rd could be huge. So I see the logic even though I would have taken Barton and called it a day. Just because a move isn’t the move I would have made doesn’t make it bad and some people here tend to think it’s their way or it’s wrong.
