As brainpaint said in his write up, this is a very underwhelming crop thus far.

Fergy is a Pro Bowler

Schoon should take a 2nd year leap and improve his blocking. Remember Schultz took 2-3 years before he took off.

Hendershot may be out of luck.

Stephens Jr. showed a ton of upside he before tearing his ACL.

Spann-Ford shows upside. Willing and improving blocker with huge frame. Think he makes the 53 over Hendershot
I think John Stephen’s is going to be the guy that explodes if he’s healthy. He will be tough to cover.

It’s possible Jerry forgot RB is a position in the league.
Or he decided to go by all the couch GM's theory on here. You can get a RB anywhere, no need to draft them high. He just took it a step further and decided not to draft one at all.
As he knew, you can get a RB anywhere anytime.

It certainly looks that way.

My concern with Nate Peat is he hardly got any carries in college. Makes one wonder why?

It may be this simple. CODY SHRADER:

Weaknesses

Speed: Something mentioned in his strength as a North/South runner, Schrader doesn't have amazing top-end speed, his 40-yard dash clocked in at 4.61 seconds and Schrader also isn't very elusive. With this also some footwork could help his route running improve.

Age: Schrader spent four years at Truman State and two more at Missouri, so he will be 25 years old in September when the NFL regular season gets going. So he will be a fair amount older than a lot of his peers in the 2024 NFL draft.
Schrader was a First-Team All-America selection by the Associated Press, as well as a Second-Team Walter Camp All-America pick ... named a First-Team All-SEC selection by both the Associated Press and coaches … selected as the winner of the Burlsworth Trophy, honoring the most outstanding player in the nation who began his career as a walk-on … Schrader leads the SEC in rushing with an average of 125.1 yards per game through 13 contests … completed the season with 1,627 rushing yards on 276 carries, claiming the top spot in Mizzou’s single-season rushing chart, besting Tyler Badie’s 1,604 yards in 2021 … named a finalist for both the Doak Walker Award, he became just the 15th Tiger (and the first since Larry Rountree III in 2018) to rush for 1,000 yards in a season … with 23 rushing touchdowns in 26 career games at MU, Schrader ranks ninth all-time at Mizzou for rushing TDs … finished the season with a streak of ten consecutive games (dating back to Sept. 23 vs. Memphis) with at least one rushing TD … in just two seasons at Mizzou, Schrader has amassed 2,371 rushing yards, which is No. 12 total on the Tigers’ career rushing list … surpassed the 1,000 all-purpose yard barrier for the season, totaling 1,818 yards, marking the fifth-highest total (third-best by a running back) in program history; he also ran his Mizzou career total to 2,562 all-purpose yards … Schrader topped the century mark for rushing yardage nine times in 2023 and 25 times overall in his career; his streak of six consecutive 100-yard rushing performances to end the season is the longest in Mizzou history … one of the Tigers’ six permanent 2023 team captains, the St. Louis native earned a pair of SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors: first, on Oct. 23, after running for 159 yards against South Carolina (Oct. 21), marking his 20th career 100-yard rushing performance; also, on Nov. 27, following his Mizzou career high of 217 rushing yards at Arkansas (Nov. 24) … Schrader became the first SEC player and just the 10th FBS player ever to record 200 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in a game Nov. 11 vs. Tennessee … against No. 1 Georgia (Nov. 4), Schrader totaled a game-high 112 yards against a Bulldog defense that ranked 11th in the country against the run entering the game … racked up 128 rushing yards and the seven-yard game winning score in his career curtain call against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl (Dec. 29) ... Schrader was impressive throughout the SEC season, putting up six 100-yard performances in MU’s eight conference games … Schrader is one of five active NCAA backs to reach the 5,000 career rushing yard milestone … Schrader’s career rushing yards (5,441) represents the top total for any Power 5 running back in 2023 … Schrader topped the 6,000-yard mark for all-purpose yardage and has 6,255 yards to his credit, which is good for third on the NCAA’s list of active players … earned an invite to the Senior Bowl following his performance in the Cotton Bowl.

HOWEVER:
4.61-second 40 YARD DASH TIME

In Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine, which spanned Feb. 29-March 3, Schrader tweaked his hamstring running the 40-yard dash and ended up posting a 4.61-second time.

PEAT has a problem with fumbling.

Nathaniel Peat was a low efficiency, high explosion back that was wildly inconsistent. Of the three guys who carried the ball more than 20 times he had the highest highlight yards per opportunity - 5.8, a full yard better than Schrader or Cook - but also had a success rate that was 12 points lower than an average college running back in 2022.

Wrote in another thread as well - I can‘t understand how the 3 or 4 most talented RBs didn’t beg to get signed by us and why we didn’t go after them. No easier chance in the NFL to not only make the roster but get playing time in real games.
The free agent backs don't look very good.

Nate Peat

Vandy was the only SEC team Peat rushed for over 30 yds against. Diamond in the rough.

He does have the speed that they were looking for. It looks like he transferred from Stanford and for some reason the Missouri coaches didn't play him much.

Diamond in the rough.
That seems too kind.

There is nothing to suggest this player would ever make a team based on his RB snaps.

If he turns heads, it will be because they think he can be a KO return weapon, and simultaneously, they decide they want to reduce Turpin's wear and tear b/c they plan to increase his offensive snap count.
