dead money is another thing we have had too much ofI think Romo had a cap hit 1-2 years after he was no longer with the Cowboys.......

Exactly. He will trade him when his value is up. The Eagles like to trade players to get high draft picks. They traded Wentz and used the picks to help rebuild the team. Plus, the Eagles are a team that can win with a weaker QB, as they are doing with Hurts, because the rest of the team is so good. It's not inconceivable that Roseman trades him. Even as soon as this off-season. Win the SB and maybe break-up the band to reinvest.
Roseman doesn't do sentimentality.
Yep, it's usually better to go a year early than a year late. Similarly, if we weren't going to compete in 2024, there's a number of players, in final year of contract that we should of traded.Exactly. He will trade him when his value is up. Lurie, unlike Jerry, doesn't mind if he has to move on from a player, even if that still has a little money left on his deal. It's called balancing winning over money. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but what the Eagles do that the Cowboys don't, is the Eagles stay ahead of their roster. They draft guys a year or two in advance of a player retiring or the Eagles trading him. They prepare and plan for losses. The Cowboys lose players and wing it after that. The Eagles drafted Jurgens knowing Kelce would be retiring at some point. Jurgens sat on the bench for a year and stepped in the next year when Kelce retired.
They did the same thing with Fletcher Cox, drafting Jordan Davis the year before Cox retired.
It's called planning and it is what Jerry is very bad at which is why the Cowboys have not won a SB in 30 years.
I'm 100% convinced we don't trade coz we're NOT good at it.........maybe the Joey Galloway and Roy Williams trade still haunt Jerry but it is obvious that they are afraid to trade.Yep, it's usually better to go a year early than a year late. Stephen Jones should be sitting with Howie right now with pen and pad (lol)
If Hurts gets to another Super Bowl after this one, it makes sense. I wouldn't doubt that by 2029 Howie already has his replacement on the roster. I hope we are thinking about Dak's replacement. It appears they will have to adjust his contract after the 2026-27 season............

Yep, Jerry just keeps getting beaten in the exchange (as with many/most extension negotiations).... just confirmation (if any were needed) that Jerry is out of his depth.I'm 100% convinced we don't trade coz we're NOT good at it.........maybe the Joey Galloway and Roy Williams trade still haunt Jerry but it is obvious that they are afraid to trade.
That was what BB did so well for so long. Trade away a player before the decline starts; or let them go to save cap money.Lurie, unlike Jerry, doesn't mind if he has to move on from a player, even if that still has a little money left on his deal. It's called balancing winning over money.
For what it’s worth, Hurts has a no trade clause in his contract. It's not inconceivable that Roseman trades him. Even as soon as this off-season. Win the SB and maybe break-up the band to reinvest.

I agree. He’s not the kind of player you pay a lot of money to once the age hits the 30s. His mobility is a big part of what makes him valuable now, but legs typically don’t age well. It’s why I was sweating it when Howie was rumored to be interested in trading for Russell Wilson before he went to Denver. That would’ve been a nightmareOn the other hand, I will bet that the Eagles will not give Hurts that second contract like Jerry gave Dak. I believe the Eagles will trade Hurts at some point.
The first thing that came to my mind was the guy who replaced Kelce. Kelce was one of the best at his position, and I couldn't help but think how they could replace him and not take a loss at the position. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but what the Eagles do that the Cowboys don't, is the Eagles stay ahead of their roster. Jerry’s insistence on having personal relationships with players doesn’t help. That was what BB did so well for so long. Trade away a player before the decline starts; or let them go to save cap money.
This is a brutal business; if you want to be a consistent contender you are going to have to sacrifice sentiment on occasion.
Kinda. But with how they are adept at moving on from expensive aging players they'll have money opening up as well. They were able to go to a SB, reload, and compete for another in a few years time. Dallas is to scared to even load up.kind of moot isn't it? They just pushing the cap hit down the road, correct?
I’ve been moaning over this for years. They are never ahead of anything. They let a situation get dire, leave it as a problem for a season, then force themselves to draft that position early because free agency isn’t worth the money according to the kid. Seems to be going ok for a few that actually know the players on other teams. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but what the Eagles do that the Cowboys don't, is the Eagles stay ahead of their roster. I’ll wager Philly will try move up in the draft to secure a tackle they feel strongly about with Johnson’s retirement one, maybe two seasons away. The first thing that came to my mind was the guy who replaced Kelce. Kelce was one of the best at his position, and I couldn't help but think how they could replace him and not take a loss at the position.
I honestly don't see a drop in production at center if you could measure one for the eagles. Not like it's a weak link if that makes any sense. Did the tush push drop percentage wise for the eagles? I think everyone was saying Kelce AND Hurts was the reason why philly could run the play better than anyone else.
True, but nothing in the way of Hurts. We did voided years for Zack ad have to now have to paid the piper.I think Romo had a cap hit 1-2 years after he was no longer with the Cowboys.......
There's zero chance Jerry and Stephen have any plans for post Dak other than "we'll cross that bridge when we get to it".If Hurts gets to another Super Bowl after this one, it makes sense. I wouldn't doubt that by 2029 Howie already has his replacement on the roster. I hope we are thinking about Dak's replacement.
if true that is sad, but I dont think jerry is that smart.I coined the term, Pseudo Competitive, meaning being just relevant enough. that's what Jerry does. winning championships will eliminate all the nay sayers and cowboys haters from talking cowboys. jerry doesn't like that. losing bad, eliminates lots of fans. jerry doesn't like that. somewhere in the middle keeps both parties interested.
