Let's flip this around. If you're playing for the Jones boys and you know you won't have a chance to win anything, why not hold out for the biggest payday that you can? Why cut Jerry a break so that he can stiff Rico Dowdle and pocket that change?

That’s not really flipping it around though. It’s still acknowledging that Dak doesn’t care about winning because if he knows it won’t happen in Dallas he would have played out the string and went somewhere else if he did care.

I think it’s as simple as guys like Allen know they are future HOFers and don’t need to be the highest paid. In fact it’s probably smarter not to be. A few million is a rounding error to these guys when you look at their lifetime earnings potential and the optics of taking a team friendly deal is probably worth more in the long run. With Dak, I think he knows he doesn’t have the talent or credentials to be elite so needed to be the highest paid because otherwise he’s not in the class of your Allens or Burrows.

Dak knows his limitations. He just doesn’t have the talent to be a SB QB, and therefore can’t be the captain of the ship because he cracks under pressure. He needs to ride a smooth sailing one with a super crew when there are no stormy seas, which never happens in life. Dan Quinn helped provide some of that for him with his top five TO defense for a number of years and when he left and the D collapsed everything was really exposed.

Unfortunately, JJ doesn’t know football talent, and Dak plays the PR game well. Dak and his agent milked JJ for everything they could while saying all the right things. Dak cares about the bag first while winning doesn’t really matter to him like it did for other athletes such as Michael Jordan, or former Cowboy greats like the Triplets. When all is said and done, football will be a long forgotten memory for him compared to his bank account.

I would never do it. 5 million gets you nothing……5 million can’t even give you Rico Dowdle. Dak did what was best for the players not the Cowboys. Josh Allen is enabling his teams crappy mismanagement of the cap. He take less and they make him work harder.

the cap management is the issue and we know jerry sucks at it.
to me the biggest difference is number of years to allow flexibility in manuvering money. in fact Allen gets more guaranteed money...that's the key to the whole thing

You’re missing my point. I said teams are fighting for Darnold and Fields. A one year wonder and a never was. That’s how hungry teams are for quarterbacks. So yes if Allen hit the market he would’ve got whatever he asked for. Teams are hungry and don’t like this draft for quarterbacks.

Of course teams are looking for QB's. Nothing new. Who fought over them? Vikings intend to go with their draft pick & made an offer so low that Darnold was never taking it. He had a few interested teams but hardly a fight. Certainly no fight over Fields.

Allen could have told his current team that he deserved to be paid way more than Dak. What would their counter argument have been? Josh is one of the elite QB's, so sure he would have tons of interest & could rightfully ask to be paid accordingly. But he wasn't a free agent. He & the team did the smart thing, renegotiated early to put more money in his pocket sooner & lock him in with guarantees without making him the highest paid or wrecking their cap.

Their initial offer to Purdy tells you that he isn't going to be getting record money from the Niners. Which is my point. Just because they are next up, doesn't mean they are going to top of pay scale regardless of talent.

Now let’s go outside the numbers. Watch both players facial expressions, body language and teammates reactions during games when things aren’t going as planned during a game. The difference in pocket presence, ball placement, reading the defense and the speed of going through progressions is night and day. Let’s touch on command of the offense when games are close in the closing minute or seconds left in the game. One is in charge and the other freaks out with his deer in the headlights look. Way to many on this board go strictly by those madden and fantasy football numbers. Money aside, the difference in these two QBs isn’t in the same universe.

I can speak with 100% certainty that NO team with Dak under center would not only not win a SB but would never make a run at a SB. Put Dak on any team that’s gotten to a SB during Dak’s career and they don’t get there. Anyone who can’t see this by watching his play on the field, doesn’t know what they’re seeing when they watch him play. He has way too many limitations with the biggest being HIS intellectual deficiencies. His other biggest problem is he always chokes under pressure. I remember being hammered on this board when I pointed out why he’d never be a championship caliber QB caliber in this league when he was first drafted. Man have times changed. LOTS see it now. In terms of mental makeup to be successful in this league, Dak is slow.

A QB’s talent rarely wins a Super Bowl. It’s generally a teams talent that does.
