Is Dak Tradeable?

That is if he is cut. If he is traded it is "only" (haha) $90M because some of the guaranteed dollars move to the new team and if it is a post 6/1 trade we save $40M next year and clear teh rest off the year after also at a savings

As we all know Dak has a no trade clause and would need to approve any trade. To those that are saying he is untradeable you are off base IMO or are unaware about NFL contracts. If you don't think Dak would bring back not only "something" but something of value I think you are nuts or blinded by your Dak agenda. His contract to his new team basically becomes a 3 year $140M deal ($47M per). But if they wanted to cut him after 2 years they could get out with it being a 2 year $100M deal. Both of those are out of the top 10 of what NFL starters get now let alone a year from now. You don't think a few of the teams in the league would prefer what Dak has been doing to what they have? It only takes one for a trade to happen.

I agree you’d get something of value back in a Dak trade, he’s been too good this year not to. The issue is that cap hit will be the full $90m this season. The only way that makes sense is if the cowboys are fully committed to a rebuild and are ok with a 5 win 2026. It’s a fair argument that would be a good long term move but it’s not a Jerry move at all. I think the part that makes Dak untradeable has a lot more to do with the cowboys approach than what other teams are willing to give up.

The post June 1 scenario is an interesting one but I imagine the cowboys would want a pick for this upcoming draft and teams probably prefer a new qb to get in the playbook and working with the offense sooner rather than later. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but it seems unlikely. I’m not sure are you able to designate a traded player as a post June 1 transaction or is that a cut only?

If you trade him post 6/1 it's only $34M next year. Problem is that you can't designate a traded player as a post 6/1 move like you can a cut player so you would have to actually trade him after that date which would be difficult unless injury because only a few teams would both still be looking for a starting QB and also having enough cap space to pull off a move like that in the Summer. So most likely it would need to be an earlier in the offseason trade. For the record I'm not saying I would trade Dak. If that were my plan I wouldn't have traded for Clark and Q, I would have just stockpiled picks because you don't bring in vets over draft picks and then trade your QB. You either rebuild or you don't..

There are definitely teams that would love a QB like Dak on their team. Cleveland trading the house for Deshaun Watson. Sam Darnold getting new life in the NFL. Indy having no choice but to give Daniel Jones a second chance, and then signing old man Rivers. Teams are still trying Russell Wilson out again and again. Can't tell me there isn't a team out there who would love a solid veteran like Dak leading the team in the last years of his career. But yeah, that salary cap hit makes it near impossible.

Presumably you could agree to the trade before the date but execute it after the date. So at least the teams know who there quarterback will be.

That is a question mark. But he is top skilled. And he is 5 years younger. And he probably would be glad to get out of Cincinnati. And he wouldn't cost as much in trade value as Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson.

Bad teams might be interested. But he’s already on a bad team. Why would he approve a trade?

No more money. No more chance to win. And he’s away from his new home. How stupid do you think Dak Prescott is?
 
Who cares if he's tradeable? I just want to see more, "dak is a top 5 elite quarterback". "Is dak getting the MVP?". "Will Dak run off with us when he's through next year?"

No one is touching Dak, or that contract, without a level 1 hazmat suit. It's radioactive as hell.

That contract ensured that the Cowboys will not see success for at least ten more years- if ever.
Dak's legacy will be paired with Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett as the three who finished off America's Team.
And Jerry deserves all of the criticism he receives after trying to sneak Dak's contract in on the fans by doing it just before opening day of last year.
The Cowboys have been worse since that contract was signed, and I believe that the rest of the Cowboys knew they would never see success after Dak was resigned.
I believe we are seeing the after effects; the rest of the team was ready for Dak to go elsewhere but couldn't say it openly.
Then it became a rush for any player that could to get extensions because they knew the ship was sinking.

And it was a hell of a cap hit.

But, it's arguably better to just sever ties and move on from a QB situation that is a perfect example of a sunken cost fallacy. Russ’s performance made the decision easier and like I said above, Denver actually cares about winning and took it on the chin.

Dak isn’t the the dumpster fire Russ was. He just bottoms out often enough that you know we aren’t likely to win ish unless the FO starts engaging the offseason like they give a crap about anything other than maximizing profits and puts the necessary talent around him it takes for him to succeed, which we know isn't happening, nor would Jerry ever swallow that much dead money to reset the roster make-up. Yep..for sure. I was gonna put some caveats in my comment. thanks fo adding in.

Teams do it ...I dunno if "often" is the right word. But teams DO...move on from the hefty contracts. Dak is probably playing well enough to not...at this point, hence "trade" instead of release. And Jerry will wait and wait...with his eternal double-down strategy...hoping against hope he can tell someone "see I was right all along!".

Yeah, he's a dak hater. They piss me off. I'll be cheering this awesome team created by Jerry until the last game. "How about them Cowboys?" Now I'm pissed before the game has even started. If we win today, can we sneak into the playoffs? I hope Jerry secretly buys us a spot in, if we can't sneak in. Go Jerry. :huh:
