RT's We Could Realistically Acquire

I don't know much about the availability of RT's around the league. I've long thought that this season's success largely hinges on the OT play, and it sounds like Steele is going to be a huge liability based on the reporting thus far. What are some options around the league to upgrade the position and what would it realistically cost?

There are a couple of vets who might be able to give you some stability but you're really not going to find anything better than we have as a UFA at this point. More realistically, it could be around trade deadline for a pending free agent.

Austin Jackson - Miami
Jawaan Taylor - Atlanta
Ike Ekwonu/Rasheed Walker - Carolina
Ryan Vandermark - Min

Just some guys on bad teams who are pending free agents and could probably give you some good snaps.

Take the shoulder risk on Decker and sign him to play LT while moving Guyton to Steeles RT spot.
Do it yesterday.

Last couple of years I think Decker's level of play has slid significantly. At least that was my impression when I watched him. Maybe he could move to the right side & hold up better .... maybe not. The league is short on high level T's.

Decker is way too expensive.

I’m normally a “the cap is just numbers” kind of guy but the Cowboys have turned almost every knob and twisted almost every lever this off season to create cap room.

Freeing up cap would probably require doing something dumb like restructuring Bland or Ferguson by shoving money into 2028 for Bland and 2029 for Ferg, which are currently the cowboys escape years from two contracts that are already going to age poorly.

If I’m going to pay broken down guys big money down the line, I’m going to want someone more impactful than Decker.

The ultimate question is if that so-called significant slide performance is still better than the existing options starting at tackle for the Cowboys.

Thats a resounding yes imho.

I don't really agree that Decker would be that expensive (though maybe his number is why he's unsigned), but it's a good point.

I think it'd be more likely that they give him a two-year deal with a void year or something like that.

I still don't get how people are more concerned about Steele than Guyton. At least Steele can run block. Until we see improvement in real games (and we very well may) Guyton can't do either

I don’t think any of those guys are even close to being available. All are either starters or were just signed this off season.

Do you have other info?

They're pending UFAs after this season.

Bad team + pending UFA = potentially available.

They're not available today, but could be if those teams are bad.

Steele is likely the same as he was last season...Not great but passable.
- If the LT is solid, then they can scheme around Steele's limitations.

The positional importance of left tackle(or both tackles on this team) over rides both the salary cap contract and player acquisition risk in this case for me.

While I can respect yours and others offensive tackle opinions, if it doesn't include to acquire Decker or someone near Decker's level starting ability to start at tackle then I would strongly disagree.

To me, Guyton and Steele are scrubs as passblockers and won't hold up this full season and will be replaced based on performance or injury or both before the regular season ends.

That's me.

you can usually cover up one Tackle. But the best defenses will exploit it.

He was set to make $15m this year and when the Lions approached him about a pay cut, he didn’t even entertain it. He just asked for his release

He’s also talked about retirement

Looks like he’s more likely looking for a one year score.

Yea but it's not like he's sitting on a bunch of $20m offers.

He might choose to retire rather than play for less than what he thinks he wants, but the market doesn't seem to be there.
