I have been pretty critical of the organization, but every team is going to have its flaws.

Obviously, JG was overwhelmed as playcaller and HC. Hopefully, this gives him a chance to manage the game. If not, he will be gone at the end of the season. Either way, it will be a positive change for the Cowboys. This gives him a chance to put his money where his mouth is.

The defense. I always liked the 3-4, but never the version we ran. It seems funny, because we have run nearly every version that has ever been used, except for the LeBeau zone fire scheme. The Tampa 2 will extend Ware's career and give everyone on the team a chance to make plays. There are no excuses for the players. They simply have to execute. I hope we don't hear some of the things we heard in the Parcells era about "vanilla defense", because exotic has gotten us nowhere.

ZBS. We have heard that the Cowboys will run a ZBS for a few years, since Cally got here, but they never really implemented it, or made it a focus. This takes a TREMENDOUS amount of pressure off the QB, and it forces defenses to respect the run. It seems like we have a stable of decent backs ready to step in for DeMarco if he gets hurt again. That is what is so great about the ZBS, it allows guys a chance to step up, even without a lot of pedigree. Once you get a solid running game, the play action opportunities allow for big plays down the field.

What I don't like:

Practically nobody is likely to have greater familiarity with his team than Tony Romo. He recently made the statement that he believes the current roster is the best he's ever seen since he's played for Dallas. If he's that fired up about our personnel, I see no reason why the fans shouldn't feel likewise. From the looks of things, there's no reason why 2013 shouldn't prove to be a fun ride.

I've been critical too but Jerry and Red have done a good job of rebuilding on the Fly.. Every position has gotten a infusion of young talented Players.. Hopefully the DL is adressed next draft... Firing Ryan and Garretts reduced role is a positive... Time for the players to produce on the field..

Aren't you excited every year?

I am not sure what the point of this thread because I am sure you are excited every year for Cowboys football

Amen. When Ryan came here we all had visions of what we thought our defense would look like. What we got was something different. That was the main reason I was a bit leary about our new defense until we brought Kiffin on board.

Um, obviously there's a difference between being excited about the Cowboys and being excited about the Cowboys potentially being good.

Callahan hasn't been here for a few years yet.. his first year with the team was last season. I assume he will be switching us to a mainly ZBS this year.

It appears that almost all of the running plays in TC have been Zone Blocking. The primary exception has been plays with the Guard pulling. Apparently, they like having Arkin pull around to the left side from his RG spot.

I did some research and determined that Callahan stayed with a lot of man blocking in his 1st year with the Jets. He didn't fully implement the ZBS until his 2nd year there.

There were some reports last year that he wanted to run more ZBS but some players like Cook were just to slow to function in the scheme.

I am not sure why you all are being excited potentially being good because Jason Garrett is still the coach who is a mediocre coach and Jerry Jones is still the owner, until Jason and Jerry are gone, the Cowboys will be back to being good, that is the truth

Whatever you do with all the excitement, Bob, don't ever let any of it show in your posts, ok?

Cool story, bro.

I'm excited every year about football in general. I haven't been excited about the Cowboys because they have been burying their head in the sand about glaring weaknesses. They have taken steps this year that should directly address some of the issues that have been holding the team back. My only true concern is that the core of our team seems to be injury prone, both vets and young guys. There is nothing that can be done about that in one season.

The truth is.. its hard to take you seriously when you write like this.

Why? Their record is 130-126 since their last superbowl win, that is BARELY a winning season and Jason Garrett's head coaching record is 21-19 which is mediocre

Jerry is holding back the Cowboys from winning a 6th Superbowl with his terrible decision making for 16 years and Jason Garrett is a mediocre head coach that have not made the playoffs after 3 seasons

I'm excited to see this offense without Garrett's vanilla playcalling and lack of order at the line. They have already been working on better line calling and snapping it with time on the clock. I went to the Falcons/Cowboys game last year and it was amazing the difference in how each offense looked - Atlanta's huddles were tight, crisp and quick. Everyone at the line of scrimmage seemed to know what they were doing and where they were gonna go. The Cowboys on the other hand were hurried and sloppy and disorganized. The two teams didn't even belong on the same field which it why I was amazed we only lost by 6.

With our added talent and cleaning up the offensive woes we can be deadly

A couple of years ago Jerry began hiring football people, the results should begin to show.

I'm still concerned about the red zone offense. We're kicking a lot of field goals in practice. We need more touchdowns.

Frankly, I'm excited to watch this team, regardless of how most of the draftees pan out. Just having a healthy defense and a moderately better offensive line could be entertaining stuff. Just give me a few games with a healthy D-Ware playing defensive end in a 4-3 (unstoppable), a full season with Sean Lee and Bruce Carter seeking and destroying, a full season with D Murray running the ball, and a full season with Romo having even 1 more second in the pocket and I'm good. That's all I ask.

I could have added a full season with a healthy Miles Austin too, but I realize that borders on pure fantasy. LOL.
