Lance Dunbar will have to earn back the Cowboys' trust after two fumbles in last three touches

But not right on the spot and he did get paid for the playoffs. I said that he never carried the ball again for the Cowboys, which is true, but the point here was that even though he fumbled, he had two years to get it right. He didn't do it but he got a chance. That's all I'm saying.

He was cut the next day. You can't literally cut him during the game.

I don't know if you can or you can't. I know that's what Jimmy said he would do thou.
Officially cutting a player is a transaction (i.e. paper work). Jimmy cut effectively cut him immediately. He probably said "you're cut" on the spot, but the transaction is not official until the next day.

It's not a big deal, but the following statement was wrong.
I can understand why your Dad would say that. He's not entirely wrong there. Jimmy would make examples of players but it all had to do with how talented the player was. For example, Swerven Curvin Richards was a guy who had a fumbling problem. Really talented back out of Pitt but he coughed it up. Once against the Bears, Richards was in for Emmitt and he fumbled the ball. Jimmy pulled him and told him, you cough it up one more time and I'll cut you on the spot. You will never carry the football for the Cowboys again. Sure enough, he did but Jimmy didn't cut him. Richards never got another carry and was sent to Detroit the next season but Jimmy did not cut him on the spot.

I know Dunbar is the 2nd coming of Barry Sanders around here, but in reality he isn't good enough to see the field if he's going to fumble. Cutting him is way extreme and a bit ridiculous though.

Is Randle really not worth taking a look at? I thought he ran pretty well in the preseason. Can't believe Tanner is dressing over him.

Yeth, he will half to earn our trust. He will half to earn my trust. You drop too many and your are on notice.
Don't be like Romo. He half thown too manys INTs at the worst times and now look at him, all worried cause he half to earn back MY trust. I tell him, "Tona, you are exempt because you half too many monies invested in you, but hey, you make too manys INTs and you will half to earn others trust."
I hope he listen to me.

Jimmy didn't cut him. The statement was absolutely correct. Jimmy had threatened to cut him on the spot. Immediately after the game was over, Jimmy wanted to cut him then. Jerry told Jimmy to sleep on it and the next day, Jimmy still wanted him gone so Jerry approved and the paperwork was filed. Because it was the last game of the season, it probably amounts to about the same thing so maybe were just throwing mud up against the wall here.

However, technically, if you want to get right down to it, what I said was absolutely correct, down to the statement and what happened but I agree, it is a small point.

Mainly, I am just trying to get the point across that even somebody as hard as Jimmy gave Richards a chance. He had two years. Would be rash to just cut Dunbar now, with so little time to develop him. JMO

I don't see how you cut guys whom look like they can make plays (he has another gear) without first attempting to correct the ball security issue.

Yes, but you said he wasn't cut and was traded the next season to Detroit.

That is undeniably not true. He was cut the next day and in the offseason signed with Detroit as a street free agent.

Jimmy wanted him gone right away and he was gone right away.

Good Grief. I can't tell if people just post stuff for the attention it draws or actually feel the way they do. You don't cut a playmaker because he's fumbled the ball twice even if they're close to back to back. They're have been players who had fumble problems early in their career who have settled down and were very good RBs. Tiki Barber is one of them. The Wilson kid is likely going to be the same. You address the issue and hope someone that good can work it out. If not then some are right. He can't be trusted so you don't put him on the field.

Does anyone have a good idea how he's pass blocking and getting his assignments down?

Can't agree with that Catch. This is how you build an identity. You can't just let young players make mistakes and reward them with playing time. They have to learn lessons so that if we ever do make the playoffs, things like this don't come back to bite us in the Butt.

Nope, he sits until he can learn to hold onto the ball.

Especially when you're talking about marginal roster fillers like Lance Dunbar.

It isn't any more premature cutting him than it is to call him a playmaker or mention him in the same sentence with Tiki Barber.

We are talking about Lance Dunbar here right? Did I miss something?

This is so so typical of you. I didn't compare him with Tiki Barber overall just the fumbling issue. But of course you know that. They're not the same type of player anyway. I don't see Dunbar as a starting RB in the NFL. He's a complimentary back. But then you know that as well. And Tiki had a very nice long career. Dunbar is still on the starting line. He may be another Darren Sproles or a JAG who is either out of the league soon or always fighting to make someone's squad. It's obvious to me he can make plays though. That's a fact.

While I certainly respect your right to your opinion on Lance being a marginal roster filler.

From my perspective, I can't see how you could of watched what he did in the preseason (minus fumbles) and at least come to a conclusion there might be something there. Will it pan out? I am not sure, but from watching him I have seen enough flashes in a second year back to believe he is worth a little more time and patience.

He needs to understand ball security, but IMHO he has flashed enough to see if that can be corrected.

I am sure we will be able to look back 5 or 6 weeks from now and see if he has or has not put it together.

We'll have to review this in three years. I think he's a camp player who can make a few plays here and there against defenses that don't respect him but will get exposed the more you play him and will never be an effective back in the NFL. Phillip Tanner's made as many plays as Dunbar. He sucks too.

RB will be high on my needs list next offseason.

As for Barber, the point is he had pedigree and great talent. He was a high draft pick too. Of course he's going to have a longer leash than a guy like Lance Dunbar.

You are right. He was not traded, I think he was released and Detroit signed him. You are correct there. On the other, I'm not so sure. Jerry definitely interceded to stop the immediate action. Now you could argue that it wouldn't have mattered because they could not have done it immediately anyway but be that is another discussion.

We'll never find out if he has learned to hold on to it until he is on the field.

No spark from the backfield is going to bite us in the butt more long term than Dunbar fumbling.

We can't take this weak offensive system on the road in the playoffs and expect to do anything.

We need a guy that can make big plays in space and hopefully he is that guy.

I agree.

Yeah, ball control is way too important. You can't put a fumbler in the game. He's got to work on it and demonstrate that he's got it fixed. Apparently, Garrett said as much in the walk-away from his press conference yesterday. The running plays have to be safe plays for his offense, and you can't put a guy in the game until he understands how good NFL teams are at stripping the ball out. Dunbar will get it corrected, but he can't be trusted until the team is sure that he has.

Right now, Murray's overthinking a bit. He's also suffering from Dallas Backup Running Back disease, which is a mysterious malady in which, if you're Julius Jones, then Marion Barber is better than you are. If you're Marion Barber, then Felix Jones is better than you are. If you're Felix Jones, then Demarco Murray is better than you are. If you're Demarco Murray, than Fumblin' Lance Dunbar is better than you are. If you're Fumblin' Lance, then Joseph Randle's about to be better than you are. There is, apparently, no cure for this disease.

This week, because the people who have been complaining about interior OL play still aren't seeing the running game they associate mentally with a winning football team, all the emphasis is going to be on Demarco Murray and why he's a bad player. The reality is, he's in a bit of a slump right now in terms of his aggressiveness at the LoS, but, if the team and his position coach do his job, he's about to answer with a string of good games.

I hope he does because, unless we find a more effective way to beat the blitz using our passing game, we're going to need to rely more heavily on the run here because we're about to get blitzed our of our skulls until we prove we can make teams pay a heavy price for it.

this was awesome

Uh your story was incorrect, heck i knew it when i read it but i guess you're trying to save face.

Well, thanks. You know, it's always a goal of mine to safe face from people like you. I live for that.
