Report: Cowboys Working On Amicable Retirement For Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin

Easy enough to hand him a small check and make him a consultant if Marinelli would back it.

What a joke. I hope Marinelli is not dumb enough to fall for this one, and I hope Kiff puts up a fight.

The defense played pretty well last night, and just like Rob this Red Head gets a get out of jail card. Complete crap!

Not surprised one bit assuming it's true. I see Mare as the next DC.

Kiffin is on record saying he wants to still coach. I doubt he retires willingly… However-- he could stay on as a consultant or take a front office role in some capacity, which would still effectively give the reins to Marinelli.

Rod is a great coach and DC. I think he would be my choice to take over and would stand the greatest chance of fixing the D the fastest b/c he knows the personnel on the roster, knows what we need, and is a master motivator and is able to get the most out of his players.

There isn't another guy out there that IMO-- would be a big upgrade over Marinelli if we're staying with the 4-3.

Even our firings have to be "amicable"?? Stop sugar coating it and cut him loose, it isn't rocket science, are they trying to agitate an already beaten down fan base?

It's not that easy, as I just don't know if any retirement homes have any space available. Give Jerry time to work some of his magic and he'll Kiffin some bed space.

My fear with Marinelli is that his coaching ability makes some people think that he and whoever is in charge of personnel put less premium on proven playmakers. I read an article that said one of his failures in Detroit's eyes was that he put low premium on difference makers/innate ability, and more effort into 'coaching guys up.'

You can't coach me to be a DL and I'm getting as fat as some of the scrubs we put out there. We need players.

LOL, Jethro is so predictable. Here is your head rolling for the cause. Not that it was not warranted, but it will keep Ginger's on his shoulders at least for another year. But as I recall, the D did its job yesterday the best they could and the O had their chances to win it, but heck, that doesn't fit the agenda for the Master so why dwell on it.

"No one I'd rather have. "

Foolish knee jerk move in the first place and this just confirms the rudderlessness of the Cowboy organization.

I agree with all of this, especially the last sentence. Unless for some reason we plan on abandoning the 4-3 after only one season, I think Marinelli should be our DC. If we can upgrade the talent and depth on that side of the ball we could field a legit defense with him at the helm.
