I would wager that how Johny Manziel does in his personal team interviews at the combine will be a huge factor on where he goes in the draft. I dont want some egotistical headcase here. He has lots to learn before running a nfl team.

He's perfect for Jerry.

Absolutely expect us to draft him, somehow. JJ could make no bigger splash without changing the way he does things.

No to Johnny Football, he would struggle in a Garrett offense. Garrett needs a cerebral prototype pocket passer with a cannon arm to run his offense. Johnny Football's creativity, instincts and athletic abilities would be hindered in this offense, just like Romo.

By time he's playing, Garrett will be gone

He's not the RKOG per Garrett... but if you know Jones, you know he has flirted with the thought of this in his mind. Personally I'd pull the trigger @16.. but no way am I trading up again. Didn't work out well last time.
We know he can escape pressure, we know he's a big play QB, we know he has a good arm, just a matter of if he can read defenses. Can he make a quick decision when pressure is barreling down on him?

Is he going to be accurate? Things of that nature. I do know that he will throw the ball up to Dez, he's smart enough to know who his best target is. I think he does have the guts for the big stage. You watch the BCS championship game, guys have to be clutch and have the stomach for this game and guys like JF has that. The Garrett offense is perfect for him also. It rely's on big plays and he has the legs to extend plays. But again, anyone you draft is a crap shoot. Any player you draft is going to be a gamble because you don't know how he will handle the pressure, the speed of this game. This guy didn't have many players around him also. He was playing with less than a hand full of actual talent, and the rest he just carried that team.

If he starts to slide, you move up.

If Dallas can improve with the 1st choice (16/17th Overall depending on a coin flip with the Ravens coming off a SB Victory) like they did with Frederick then Manzel could be the next Drew Brees and nobody would blink for not trading up to get him, you gotta like the player that improves the roster now.

This is the year of the TE if JJ was a real GM he would have waited on the Escobar choice, not analyzing the next year is old hat and tired around here. Hopefully we pick a strength of this Draft and come away with 3 starters in the first 3 rounds....roll the dice on someone not playing the club scene, Dallas would swallow Manzel like deep throat.

Not so fast -- the thing scouts like about him is his accuracy. Plus he makes plays much like Wilson and remember this is a guy who absolutely toyed with Alabama -- twice.

You better be careful underestimating Manziel.

I don't agree. I see him throwing on the run a lot but I am not so sure about his pocket accuracy. Alabama is not that good this year but more to the point, Bama is a college team. If we were talking about college football, that would be fine but we are not. We are talking about Pro Ball, which is much different.

I don't believe Manziel is Brees or Wilson. I guess we'll see.

drafting a QB in the 1st round of the 2014 draft might be dumber than anything that they've done in the past and that bar is already set really low. They Cowboys need to use all resources to win now with Romo.
What do you think they've been doing for the last 7-8 years? Have you been asleep through those years? It's painfully obvious that they've tried to build around the guy for all 7 years and it's not worked. But I guess let's keep trying another 5 huh?

I'm not sure if his game will translate to the NFL, but they absolutely should be scouting him, and other QBs. The state of the team dictates that nothing should be off the table, including taking a QB, and I say that as a loyal supporter of Tony Romo. They don't need to feel compelled to take a QB this year, but they for sure should be scouting the available ones carefully - and if they develop a conviction about one, they then should make every effort to get him.

I would say "if they develop a conviction about one that drops to them (or very close).....then they should go get him".
We went nearly a decade without a viable QB and we made the playoffs once only due to Parcells sheer brilliance as a game manager.
Those were dark days, even darker than recent times. QB is FAR FAR and away the most important player on the field. Better to have two viable ones, esp if one of those is young and waiting and developing on the sidelines, than none. No QB= no team. Look at the remaining teams QBs:
Brady, Brees, Manning...all HOF'ers and the rest up and coming guys: Luck, Newton, Kraperneck, Wilson. The only odd-man out is Rivers who is meh but I suspect the Chargers don't last much longer.
I think there is at least the possibility that a lot of teams are scared off by the Manziel's reputation, size, and whatnot and/or all the QB-needy teams snatch up the other QBs before him...Bortles, Bridgewater, Murray, etc. We're in the mid-teens, its possible (maybe not likely but possible) he drops.

Where have you been? No, he has wasted picks on flash positions though over the years as well as flash FA's.

Hibernating !

Perception ...

Jerry's used more premium picks on DE and LB (last 20 years)than QB RB and WR combined.

Two of the last three first rd. picks have been offensive linemen(which his critics said he would never do bc his ego wouldn't allow it/ lineman dont sell jerseys)

It looks like he made mistake on Claiborne, but I don't think he was looking to make a splash. I think he really thought(rightfully so) that he needed corners. He had an opportunity to grab the perceived best one in the draft! So he took it. Doesn't mean he did it for splash purposes.

Fact is, those who criticize Jerry for not drafting a d-lineman, they would've been the same ones criticizing him for neglecting the offensive line. #cantwin

Fact is, Jerry's still trying to fill holes Parcells left him with. I believe he's done a better job at doing that than most think.

Your argument suggests that Romo has never had a D. Then there are those who may suggest that Romo lacks anything to help him win, To that I say Romo has never helped his cause. He fumbled a supposed slick ball, and since then has found creative ways to lose games against top tier teams. Yes the defense was terrible this year but lets not pretend that this has been the norm in Dallas since Romo got here. I must ask you to name three good teams with a winning record that Romo has gone on to defeat.

No, my argument is that Romo has proven that he can lead Dallas to good seasons when he has a defense. The Cowboys have missed the playoffs only once under Romo when Dallas had a top 10 defense. If you add in decent line play, the last time Dallas had that before this past season was in 2007, when the Cowboys went 13-3.

Some people seem to conveniently look past Romo's performances when the D isn't sucking it up or the offensive line isn't a sieve.

In 2006, Dallas was 13th in total defense, giving up 322.8 yards per game and 21.8 points per game. The Cowboys made the playoffs. (Romo took over for 3-3 Drew Bledsoe.)

In 2007, Dallas had a top 10 defense at No. 9, giving up 307.6 yards per game and 20.3 points per game. The Cowboys went 13-3, winning the division and a bye.

In 2008, Dallas had the eight-ranked defense by yards 294.3, but gave up 22.8 points per game. The Cowboys went 9-7, but missed the playoffs when they got blown out in the final week.

In 2009, Dallas had the ninth-ranked defense, giving up 315.9 yards per game, but only 15.6 points per game. The Cowboys went 9-7 and won a playoff game.

In 2010, things went way downhill, Dallas had the 23rd-ranked defense, giving up 351.8 yards per game and 27.3 ppg.

In 2011, Dallas moved up to 14th in total defense, giving up 343.2 ypg and 21.7 ppg.

in 2012, Dallas slipped to 19th in total D, at 355.4 ypg and 25.0 ppg.

And we know what happened this year.

If you want to, you can break down each of those individual seasons by reason that Dallas lost and find only a handful of games where the quarterback's failings were key. But I know you're not going to do that.

-As expected. I think he goes to Cleveland at #4. The media circus will be Tebow-like I'm sure.

Come on Jerry, make the move and get a franchise QB.
Manziel accuracy, throwing motion, & mobility in the pocket is excellent.
