I am glad that you was smart enough to see what Costa really was. You are actually supporting our position on Costa. Some posters could never bring themselves to see that he was an undrafted jag that needed upgrading. Pat yourself on the back for not wasting time believing in Costa. He was a waste of a roster space.

That's not exactly how I felt in toto. I had hopes he would develop. Some look at a guy for a few games and give up on the player then start ragging on him. It takes about three years for many OL to get most of the program down. Some develop faster than others. But not many walk onto a NFL field and play well right away. Especially an UDFA. And I'm not here to be right or pat myself on the back.

I put out thoughts for discussion. This isn't a contest and there are no winners. That appears to be something you need to wrap your head around.

Spot on. I'll hit the like button for a variety of reasons. I might not agree with a lot of the post but I like the way it was presented or that poster put out food for thought, yada.

Perhaps the like button should go bye bye.
I think the Like button is a great site addition for the exact reason you gave. Regardless of opinion, posters can see for themselves who agrees or appreciates their comments. It's a positive thing to feel appreciated, even if it's something others may not necessarily agree with. :)

And.... What's your point. Of course Jerry is going to promote the team. That's the owner talking. What the hell do you expect from him. Now if you say he should sit down and shut up then I'm on your team.

As a GM that goes without saying. As an owner I understand the need to drum up excitement.

But you made my point. People using Jerry or Garrett or Marinelli, etc to support the idea that Costa is a quality starter, DLine is set, etc. would also believe the People's Temple juice was a weight loss elixir. Nothing that comes from THIS organization is rooted in bare knuckles assessment publicly. I'm not assessing Garret's coaching ability here, but he is not going to needle Witten, Romo etc. in public. He is not going to tell everyone his limitations and "tap" the brakes. And because that isn't said, player X is fine, quality starter, etc. to some when that isn't always the case.

That's illogical. If a reader likes something, they click the Like button. It has absolutely nothing to do with popularity. There are a number of ways to establish popularity. One way would be to install a Not Like button in conjunction with the Like button. A comparison of Likes and Not Likes would be far more indicative of how comments are received in terms of appreciation or nonappreciation held by either a fraction of site members or active site members at any given moment.

On a slightly unrelated note, this particular line of thinking is representative of comments with qualifiers like 'most posters' or 'all posters' attached to them. The comments do not quantify either the actual number of site members or even actual number of members actively posting or lurking during a set time frame.

Preaching to the choir here. I didn't make the statement nor do I agree with it. I was being sarcastic in my reply about the "likes".

I do agree that maybe we should have a dislike button as well, but I'm sure a lot of people would get their feelings hurt since they would be getting more "unlikes". I would say that would down right hurt some egos around here. Which would be just fine by me as I feel certain posters run off good posters and stop the lurkers from actually posting their views because they don't want to be attacked by the "experts".

Who used jerry or Garrett to make the argument that Costa was a quality starter? I must've missed that? I think the point was that Costa was quickly signed by another team and for some that was proof that the guy has SOME ability. He didn't get cut ( who knows if we would've made the final 53). But the ones who are looking at Costas Choice to RETIRE as some sort of vindication that they were right is what some have a problem with. Also wasn't it Garrett that publicly threw his QB under the bus last year to deflect criticism? I wouldn't go that far to say he wouldn't needle others in public.

There were many around here bagging on Tyron Smith just last year during TC because Ware was working him in practice. Don't they feel stupid now.

I never saw one post by anyone that thought Costa could make it ever claim he would be a Pro Bowler. Pretty sure that was hyperbole from the haters...

It is funny how we do get so caught up on guys that likely are going to be average at best...Quincy Carter, Phil Costa, Matt Johnson, Justin Beriault...the list goes on and on.

THEOGT said Costa would make the pro bowl. But then poke is a notorious pollyanna on the O line so he has a convenient memory

I wouldn't consider myself a sunshine-pumper or a so called realist. There is no need to be on one side or the other each situation brings different views. I think for myself. If the "likes" thing is such a big deal and everyone is so concerned about popularity on a message board I would give them advice and tell them to go outside and enjoy life. They're obviously missing something in life that they are so concerned with "likes". Really I don't give a crap about how many "likes" someone has. That doesn't make them right. It just means that other happen to agree with those persons views. You can't really be making an argument that someone is right or a "year ahead" because of the "likes" they get? I mean really? That's pretty weak

For many posters, the likes were very important right up until Risen had more than anybody. As silly as it seems, there have been accusations that many of us has planned it out. I would have never thought of something so childish. I have had maybe three PM exchanges with Risen in the last three years. None of them included fixing the "likes" to make him seem popular. My whole point is that the guy gets blasted time and time again. He don't even respond to most of those post. He said three years ago that it was a waste to invest in CBs with the trenches needing upgrading. Guess what? Now he has been proved right. He said the oline had to be upgraded a couple of years ago and he took heat on account of it. Jerry had put guys like Costa, Nagy and Livings on the oline and posters here supported that move. Risen said it was a waste of time and he was proven right. To a point, it is about being right. It looks foolish for posters to disagree with Risen right up until the point where Jerry decides to do what Risen had suggested two years earlier. Show Risen the respect he deserves. He can't help that he is two years ahead of the Cowboys GM.

By my comments I meant that Risen's views are becoming popular. More and more people agree with his views and the "like" button is reflecting that posters are waking up and seeing the true troubles with this team. When it comes to Risen being popular, I don't honestly know. I really don't know him or know anything about him other than his post offers a realistic view of the Cowboys and their GM.

Again you miss the point. You keep seeing what I'm saying from your viewpoint. I'm not saying what you say I'm saying.

Jerry the owner will promote. The owner shouldn't be so visible. Jerry = giant ego
Jerry the GM is not going to run down the roster in public because it is self defeating and could make the coaches and/or players upset and for good reason.
You want to criticize someone don't do it publicly or they lose face. This goes from children to CEOs and Presidents.

You're taking a simple thing like Costa being a marginal starter at best who didn't develop like the team wanted to something else. It's not a good idea to project your thoughts and emotions onto others esp if you don't even know them. Your agenda is self serving.

Yep, noted pollyana on the OL. I thought Costa could become a decent starter. I loved us picking Smith. I loved us picking up Frederick. Hated the signings of Bernadeau and Livings as I didn't think two average at best signings was better than one above average signing. Would love for us to draft another OL in the first three rounds, fourth at the latest as there are guys I think that could push for starting spots or at the very least be valuable reserves this year and be ready to start next year.

Jnday, you brought the likes thing up nobody else. I would've never thought about clicking and checking someone's likes and I still haven't. Everyone knew the oline had to be rebuilt because of the gutting that took place that's not some revolution that RS came up with. Some people felt that Dallas had some decent prospects. Just because he doesn't believe in CB doesn't mean they aren't important. People who have worked and scouted in college and the NFL think they are. You need pass rushers and CBs to be successful they go hand in hand. Did Dallas have a good oline last year? Sure they did. But the defense still sucked why? Depleted by injuries and the lack of safety help. I mean it isn't rocket science where someone has just figured out some equation for some light propulsion engines that will alter space travel. I mean come on stating the obvious aren't you? I really don't need a history of your exchanges nor did I accuse you of rigging anything. But I will say you surely hang on every word the guy says and who cares if he responds he has his tactic and he knows what he wants to respond to. People have seen through the crap and they know what's what bud. If you can't figure that out I don't know what to tell you.

Risen is not a messiah. He is not awaking others to a new revelation. Nor is he or anyone else creating a new reality of perspective.

Certainly, people agree with Risen. That makes sense if others share his point of view on any given topic. However, are you stating that he has educated others into believing what he believes? Are you stating that mindless drones somehow found themselves on CowboysZone and were suddenly reborn after reading his teachings?

Please do not be pretentious.

Again, clicking the like button has nothing to do with popularity, regardless of whether the alleged target of popularity is a poster or the ideas stated by a poster. I have already given one example of establishing actual popularity. Another way would be to discover associative opinion through polling. There are additional methods as well.

Here is your supposition in a nutshell: the number of posters, who click the like button, is a sound representative sampling of individual opinion.

Illogical.

Do you know the number of members who have joined CowboysZone?

Do you know the number of members who lurk (and do not offer likes) at any given time of day?

Do you know the number of members who actively comment (or click the like button) during their personal sessions on the site?

Does each time a poster click the like button represent their enlightenment of a particular topic they did not comprehend beforehand?

Okay. Enough.

I'm not going to change someone's mind nor should I try. all hail Risen (just kidding Risen :) )

It is far from a contest. You are the always the first that tries to shame somebody for being right. I gave my take as to why Costa would never develop back when the debate was a hot topic. I gave valid reasons why and was blasted for being negative. I am not concerned with your opinion of me being right or wrong. I gave an accurate evaluation which turned out to be correct. I really don't keep up with it, you seem to do that for me.
