Jason Hatcher on what’s different about Washington: The head coach isn’t policing the team

How much involvement has he had with the Commanders at this point, anyway?

And, in case we were doubtful, buckle up. We're going to get to hear some Cowboy bashing coming out of Washington this season. This dynamic between Garrett and the disgruntled defensive players is going to be pretty interesting to hear about.

"coming out of Washington"

But prob not Denver

Oh don't worry... if there is some way of spinning this into a Garrett-negative then it will be posted here pretty shortly.

Yeah, but in fairness to the usual complainers, four years of no playoffs is going to do that to a mob. We can't do anything right until we win, at which point we can't do anything wrong.

Normally I find these operational comparisons from former players interesting, but I'm not sure what value could be derived from any observations of the Commanders organization.

Especially from, what, a few weeks of workouts? They haven't done any real football yet. He hasn't even been through a week of training camp.

But also, maybe this means Jerry isn't hiding around every corner undermining Garrett at every turn like some people imagine.

Pete Carroll is a players coach...

I think Hatcher said they are letting the players run the team, not that gruden is a players coach. Maybe that's what he meant, but to me he is saying the players are running things. Don't think the players are running things in Seattle. Carroll is in charge and everyone knows it.

“Every coach has a different approach, but there’s a lot of things different here,” Hatcher said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “I don’t want to go into details about it because I don’t want to get blamed like, ‘Oh, he said this about Dallas…’

“They really take care of the veteran guys. They give us more say-so over the team. This is our team. The head coach don’t want to be policing the team. This is our team, so when we set the foundation for this football team, the way it’s supposed to go, that’s the way it’s supposed to go, through the players and not the coaches. It’s a players team, so whatever we say goes, pretty much, if it’s going in the right direction.”

So the players have more freedom to do what they want in Washington?

That was probably music to Desean Jackson's ears. LOL.

So is he actually badmouthing the Commanders here? I don't understand.

Exactly! He doesn't even realize that he's complimenting Dallas' organization and criticizing Washington's. A team run/policed by the players is setup to fail.

Why can't he just act like a professional. I hate it when players do this. Besides, his point is stupid, it's like changing teachers and saying your new one is better because he lets you do anything you want and your old one was too strict.
Grow up Hatcher.

Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells. Head Coaches who "policed" their teams.

Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, Chan Gailey, Barry Switzer. Head Coaches who didn't.

Any fan who doesn't want Garrett in that first list is nuts. Period.
