Lost our starting QB....at the time the team was 1-5. The season was effectively over already.

What part of JG didn't inherit a playoff team because the team he inherited didn't make the playoffs don't you understand?

Your impression of the actual talent on the squad is completely subjective and in effect worthless in the discussion of whether JG had a playoff team. Nevermind that his first full season was in 2011. Now 2 seasons removed from the playoff squad you're projecting them based off of.

Stahp.

Look at it anyway you want but the 2010 team was a playoff team that underachieved and ended up quitting on their HC. That same team went 11-5 and won a playoff game the previous season because they stepped up due to everyone being so down on them after the disappointing 2008 season. Part of what went wrong with the 2010 team was the SB expectations heading into that season. The Cowboys can't handle expectations it leads to pressure and the team folding.

The Cowboys were never able to overcome the disappointing loss to Washington on opening day. The way they lost that game with a scoop and score fumble return right before the half and a holding call in the final seconds on what appeared to be the game winning TD devastated the team and they never recovered.

If a team can be so devastated that a loss week 1 ruins their season....yeah not a playoff team.

Also not a playoff team because they didn't make the playoffs.

Are you new to football?

A team that can be devastated by a week 1 loss is a team with a fragile psyche that can't handle adversity. You believe a team that doesn't make the playoffs isn't a "playoff team" regardless of their talent or how they performed the previous seasons. I don't see things that way because I've been following football probably longer than you've been alive.

And yet your argument still hinges on preseason expectations. Which aren't worth the kilobytes they take up in the interweb.

Garrett did not inherit a playoff team. Had the Cowboys been that he wouldn't have gotten the job from Phillips.

He sure did inherit a playoff team. Cowboys went to the playoffs in 2009. Garrett inherited the team back in 2010. You can sugarcoat this all you want. Garrett inherited a playoff team and has done nothing but lose 3 games in a row that would have gotten us back in the playoffs. So far he has failed to win that one game that can get us into the playoffs. Thats failure.

Doesn't matter if the team was 0-8. It was still considered a playoff team then with a 1-7 record. Playoff team with losing records is still a playoff team.

Besides Garrett still had Romo, D. Ware, Witten, etc. Its not like he was given a bunch of nobodies like what was given to Campo. Lets face it. Garrett has been nothing more than a average coach. We are still in the same situation as we were back then. Except that we are 4 years older and minus D. Ware.

Can we afford the same mediocrity that we've been given so far by Garrett now and into the future? I don't think so. Sooner or later, something has to really change for the better. Garrett is not an agent of change. He is part of the status quo.

Preseason expectations are based on a teams talent and how they performed the previous season. How do you think the experts come up with their prognostications each year with a magic 8 ball? Many predicted Seattle would go to the SB in 2013 based on their defense and how they performed the previous season with a rookie QB. Their arrow was clearly pointing up and everyone who knows football could see it prior to last season. You're saying that a team that misses the playoffs isn't a playoff team and you're right if that's how you want to look at it but any knowledgable fan wouldn't look at it that way. What I've been saying that you don't seem to comprehend is the Cowboys had a playoff "caliber" team in 2010 and that's based on their talent and how they performed the previous 4 seasons especially in 2009.

Let me ask you this do you think Seattle is a playoff team or do you need to wait and see if they make the playoffs this season before providing an answer? lol Having made the playoffs in 2012 and winning the SB last season isn't enough for you to make that call now? If they miss the playoffs it certainly won't be because they weren't a playoff caliber team. NE missed the playoffs in 08 with an 11-5 record but according to your logic they weren't a playoff team because they missed the playoffs. I doubt you'll find many fans or experts who look at this subject the way you do. Baltimore missed the playoffs last season after coming off a SB win but they were still a playoff caliber team last season. If you can't make a call on whether a team is a playoff caliber team entering a season then you're just wasting my time.

Everyone had the Chiefs in the playoffs before the season began as well right? And Houston was a Superbowl contender right?

Are you really defending prognosticators? People are wrong just as often as they are right more than half the time. Otherwise they'd own a team.

And yes I can make a call on whether a team is playoff caliber preseason. But when the information changes, I change my opinion. What do you do sir?

Some did have the Chiefs in the playoffs prior to last season based on the addition of Alex Smith and Andy Reid as HC. Charlie Casserly said prior to last season the Chiefs were only a QB away from being a playoff team and he was right. As for Houston last season they suffered through basically the same problem the Chiefs did in 2012 poor QB play. No one could predict Schaub would have the stinker of a season he did. Go compare his stats from 2012 with last season. He was so bad he set an NFL record with pick-sixes in 4 straight games. Houston has talent on both sides of the ball but no team can win with the numbers and TD to turnover ratio Schaub put up last season.

A friend of mine who's a diehard Raiders FAN is currently trying to convince himself Schaub will be the second coming of Rich Gannon. lol I'm not defending prognosticators I'm just telling you how they come up with their predictions. None of them have a crystal ball and many of them end up being wrong because anything can happen during an NFL season. That's what makes each season so exciting you just never know what might happen. Most picked Denver to beat Seattle in the SB and they were wrong. I don't change my opinions until I'm proven wrong and the Cowboys have yet to prove me wrong the past 4 seasons. You didn't answer my question do you consider Seattle a playoff team yes or no?

Exactly. Every possible opinion is out there.

And then we go play the games and learn what is real and what is smoke and mirrors. The Cowboys as superbowl contenders in 2010 was smoke and mirrors. Despite what you thought in August 2010.

And yes I believe the Seahawks will make the playoffs this year. If they don't and Pete is fired...the guy who inherits the team isn't inheriting a playoff team. Those are the facts. He is inheriting a team with talent. Not a playoff team.

And you never answered my question. When I get new information I reserve the right to change my opinion. What about you?

The Cowboys as SB contenders entering the 2010 season was only smoke and mirrors in your eyes because the team had a disastrous season that saw their starting QB go down and their HC fired midseason but I'm sure you weren't saying all the SB talk was smoke and mirrors "prior" to that season. You come off as an "after the fact" type of fan who lives in the moment and flip flops as the season goes on. It's only smoke and mirrors to those like you when the team doesn't live up to expectations. There's no smoke and mirrors about a team that's been playing well and making the playoffs which is what the Cowboys were doing entering the 2010 season. That was a good football team that hadn't had worse than a 9-7 season since 2004. The Cowboys got off to a bad start in 2010 losing their starting QB in game 6 which is a recipe for having a bad season.

Romo was lost for 3 games in 2008 and the Cowboys lost 2 of those games which led to a disappointing season that had high expectations at the start. If you think the Seahawks will make the playoffs then you think they're a playoff team. If they miss the playoffs I'll wager you any amount of money Carroll isn't fired. If you want to continue arguing what a "playoff team" is go waste someone else's time. As for your question I answered it my opinion doesn't change unless it's proven wrong on the field. New "information" isn't going to change my opinion because I do extensive research before forming an opinion. My opinions are based mostly on facts and what I see on the field.

You keep talking about Losing Romo. Dude. We were 1-5 with Romo. Call it 1-4 if you want to feel better about it because we lost him in that 6th game. Tell me the history of teams that start 1-4 that make the playoffs.

And yes I had expectations going into the season. We ALL did. But i'm not flip-flopping. I just have come to grips with the fact that I was wrong.

You've deluded yourself into thinking you were right just the world conspired against you.

And yes we have new information. Perfect information. We got to see the games. After watching those games I concluded we weren't of playoff caliber. And sadly we haven't been since. More confirmation.

Again a wise man when given new information changes his opinion. Are you wise?

Romo going down is what ultimately caused that team to quit. With 10 games to go there was still an outside chance the Cowboys could have gotten on track because they looked good against the Giants in week 7 jumping out to a lead before Romo's season ending injury. Romo got off to a great start vs the Giants completing 5 of 7 passes and a TD. Kitna came in and wasn't sharp completing only 48% of his passes and lost a fumble. That game could have been the turning point that season had Romo not been lost. Even with Kitna and McGee the Cowboys showed they were capable of stringing some wins together that season.

My expectations entering the 2010 season weren't high because I felt the Cowboys would end up underachieving like they did in 08 when the expectations were also very high. I certainly wasn't expecting a 6-10 season but I did feel the team would disappoint. I got slammed by many FANS for not being as high on that team as everyone else but I know the Cowboys and they never do well when expectations are high. What's been confirmed since 2010 is Jerry's coaching hires and his ego are continuing to impede the development of the team. The Cowboys defense has been completely revamped since 2010 and it's become the worst in franchise history.

The 2010 team was capable of winning 5 of 8 games with their backup QB's. I can't see this current team with Romo at QB winning 5 of 8 games. You wait to see how things play out before giving an opinion. Your opinion of the 2010 team is based on the outcome and failure of that season. I'm sure your opinion of the 09 team was completely different. A wise man comes up with solid information before formulating an opinion. Wisdom is knowing how to react to a situation and providing the best possible outcome through logic and personal knowledge.

I like how you said the team quit after game 1. Then they quit after game 7. Please try and be consistent.

So you thought the team would underperform. Hence not a playoff team. Thanks for backtracking to my original point.

Show me where I said the team quit after game 1? I said they quit after Romo went down try reading my posts or are you just looking to argue? It appears you want to keep this going as long as you can. An underperforming team doesn't mean they're not playoff caliber. A lot was expected of that team coming off their first playoff win in 13 years but the Cowboys were never able to overcome the bad start on opening day and Romo's season ending injury in week 7. We can continue for another day on this subject and we're never going to agree we're just wasting our time. Our opinions differ and nothing is going to change anything. This thread was moved to the rant section that attracts very few viewers so there's no point continuing this.
