Per Bleacher Report BW Webb gone

So Webb is a 4th round miss but there are couple dudes like Patmon and this new guy Thomas who were drafted later that look better in many ways. both love to hit and not afraid to play what they see. Im fine with giving guys like that time over soft players.

Boy, I was wrong on Webb. Thought he could of been a good slot corner.

Kinda sad that our last good batch of fourth round hits was when Ireland was still here.

For all the 4th round woe is the team experts...Tony Mandrich was a 1st round pick and 2nd overall, for the Packers behind Troy Aikman.
And then there were those who thought Dallas should have picked Mandrich over Aikman back then....

Yes, bringing up a different teams first round bust over 20 years ago really brings some perspective to our recent 4th round woes

Wait, haven't I been hearing how good B.W. Webb and the DL have looked in preseason by members of this board?

BW Webb, 4th rounder, doesn't even make it to opening day of his 2nd season. Matt Johnson, 4th rounder, doesn't play one regular season snap as a Cowboy. These type of draft choices are why this team goes nowhere, year after year after year.

Take it for what it is worth. These are all the fourth rounders from 2003 to 2013.

Like any other team did better in the 4th round. If you look at draft history after the first 2 rounds any hits are pure luck.

Wilber's looking like a somewhat better than average 4th-rounder.
Johnson-Arkin-AOA-McGee: my eyes are bleeding just looking at that.
Butler and Choice were fine 4th-rounders. Free's an excellent one.
That James-Canty-Barber stretch was pretty incredible and extremely rare.

Thanks

That hit/miss rate basically reflects what we see across the NFL, but 2003-2007 success skews the averages....and we should be more interested in the most recent years.

Johnson was a good choice at the time, but in hindsight it turned out not so good.
Arkin is questionable, but I believe IIRC he had some back issues that held him back too. But not to the degree of Johnson. AOA seemed to be a reach, And McGee was worth a shot, as not too many QB's past the 3rd round have a lot of success.

Canty, Free, Barber, and James were quality picks. That 4 really good players in 11 years. Butler, Wilber, and Choice justify their slots. Butler is especially impressive as the 2009 draft was among the worst in the league in many years. There are some misses there but we got 7 picks that did pretty well out of 11 drafts. That's not great but I'd bet it is close to the league average.

The real issue here is that a few of those guys - Arkin and Johnson have been whipping boys for this board - that ends up skewing the perception toward "we suck at the 4th round"

For all the 4th round woe is the team experts...Tony Mandrich was a 1st round pick and 2nd overall, for the Packers behind Troy Aikman.
And then there were those who thought Dallas should have picked Mandrich over Aikman back then....
