Opinions wanted: Why did Orton want out of Dallas? ***Merged***

this guy doesn't want to start. he doesn't even want to play. he loves holding the clipboard and getting drunk 3-4 days a week.

the problem in dallas was an internal conflict either with the coaches or the players...nobody knows.

you guys are giving him too much credit by saying he wants a chance to start. orton doesn't have the will to be a starter anymore. he's a scrub and loser, F him.

Not sure where you got the info on getting drunk 3-4 days a week, but if true, that pretty much explains everything.

Orton just might have made a business decision. Get paid by the Cowboys and get paid to hold a clipboard/ipad for another team all without any off season work on his behalf. Brilliant IMHO. Pay tha man as Deion would say.

I don't know. Maybe ...
a) it was too hot in TX, especially June to Sept with a beard.
b) he missed paying state taxes.
c) he doesn't like tacos

What I don't understand is why we didn't make an attempt to trade Orton, unless that last year of his contract made him untradable. He clearly showed he is not only serviceable as a backup, but has the skills to upgrade your QB position if you are trotting out the corpse of Generalissimo Francisco Franco at QB. Seemed to me we could have gotten something in return had we traded him, earlier, when it seemed like we should have known he wasn't coming back. A 6th rounder for him maybe? Anything is better than what we got, which was a roster vacancy and some on the hook money...

it's amazing just how poorly this front office judges talent and manages its personnel,,,, top to bottom.

I hope this isn't just now coming over your Cowboys news ticker...

the interactions Orton would have mainly had were with Romo and Wilson.
maybe he didn't receive any [ from his view] support or he was rubbed the wrong way
after he threw the interception in the last game? just grabbing at straws

In my opinion I think Orton has had enough of the NFL in sense of its grind. This guy started in Chicago and Denver for a while and lost both gigs. I think he knows his place and will gladly hold a clip board for a million a season. Also I think he did not like the way Dallas is manage. I do not have any proof just a feel. Orton is not the only player who tried to find his WAY OUT of Dallas, so this tell me something. Also numerous players have left and talk down on this organization. Most with not due the fact it's a public image deal but this organization cares about one ideal. Tony Romo is the greatest player ever and they would be nothin without him. But we really have not been anywhere. We have sent a lot of players and coaches release due to a certain player not owning his keep when it's time. That is my 2 cents, take it how you like.

Also numerous players have left and talk down on this organization. and those that talked down were they let go by the FO?

I still think he doesn't want to play, and with Romo's back, he thought he might have to. In Buffalo with a young QB, he can go back to sitting and collecting checks.

Trust me, I"ve been n Buffalo the last couple of months, he could be seeing the field a lot sooner than you think.

i don't know why people are using this to bash the front office decisions....what this really shows is yet another example of the need for teams to be able to recoup more $$ from players when they string out these sort of things. Orton was basically telling the team all summer he wasn't sure if he was gonna play, maybe would retire, didn't show up to any of the offseason work. So the Cowboys are forced to question his commitment and they let him go. in that scenario they should be able to recoup all the money to the cap instead of just a percentage.

it just reminds you of the Ratliff situation although that one was FAR worse and should have resulted in more $$ being given back to the team

but i don't fault the front office at all...we can't look back at every decision with hindsight and say shame on the FO. i would have cut him long before they did when the continued stalling was going on

He was going to make what in Dallas this year?

How much is he making in Buffalo?

How much is Weeden's pay?

Dallas may have come out ahead.
