Do you think it's under control now in Africa? Really???

Africa, is a 3rd world nation, with many political issues with all the countries. If it were spreading in the US, then I would be worried.

Sure, find someone with Ebola and sit in the room with them as they cough and sneeze. Let me know if you get it.

You know why your mama always told you to cover your mouth when you cough and/or sneeze? Because sometimes "bodily fluids" escape your nose and mouth in those situations. Yep..disgusting, I know, but true.

No thanks...I don't care to sit in a room with someone with Ebola.

I know we all went through a lot of the same paranoia in the early days of AIDS. Once we learn more about Ebola, maybe we can relax a little. That said, I'd really rather NOT learn more about it, but I'm afraid we no longer have that choice.

Those kinds of tests aren't practical, right? Its all speculation and reliant on information gathered from the one who has it. How do they know exactly how they got it? Do they know if it was something they touched, ate, breathed?

What the experts are saying is that to simply go around telling everyone that it CAN'T be transmitted airborne is misleading. They simply don't know yet. And even the head of the CDC has said that it is possible that if someone with Ebola coughs or sneezes in your face, it's possible to get it. That is airborne. That means not only do you have to take precautions against TOUCHING someone, or anything they have touched, but also very possibly staying beyond a certain area and to be properly protected against BREATHING in or getting any saliva in your mouth, eyes, nose etc.

And enough of the conspiracy crap. That's not what this is about. It's about making people aware that it's at least possible that you can get it other than touching someone or eating a dead monkey.

And at the very least, to make people aware that you can get it from touching ANYTHING that an infected person has touched for up 4 days after. That is a far more serious threat than simply worrying about not touching someone.

The proof that Ebola isn't airborne is in a year and a half roughly 7,500 people with a continent of 1.1 BILLION have been infected with Ebola. In a medially area as underserved as Africa, West Africa in particular an airborne virus would spread at an increasingly higher rate and more wide spread. There is a reason only 7,500 people in a secluded area of the world have this.

Do we really need to nit pick?

It's not nit picking.

A lot of people seem to treat and discuss "Africa" like it's one big country.

Also, there is no such thing as being "in the 3rd world". It's an antiquated term that had a very specific meaning, and that meaning was never meant to mean "under developed" or "developing". The fact that you aren't worried because it's just "African's" dying doesn't make you braver than anyone else.

FRISCO — Crews are transporting a patient exhibiting "signs and symptoms of Ebola" from a Frisco CareNow to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

"Right now, there are more questions than answers about this case," said Wendell Watson, a spokesman with the hospital.

The patient was identified as Sgt. Michael Monning, a deputy who accompanied county health officials Zachary Thompson and Christopher Perkins into the apartment where Thomas Eric Duncan stayed in Dallas.

The most frightening thing about this is the way this has escalated. Historically, this virus has not really been very contagious but since July, the virility of the virus seems to have increased. Since 1976, only about 2,357 cases. However, in 2014, over 8000 cases have been identified.

Also, the symptoms can take up to 21 days to manifest themselves.

Apparently, the bodies of Ebola victims are even more contagious then living people infected. I didn't know that.

I'm really not sure what folks are debating here. Who cares if the disease has no "history" of airborne contamination. The questions is, why wait for it to (possibly) happen? Why risk it? Why not take precautions and ban travel to that part of the world or refuse entry into the US of those people who have been there? If we knew everything we needed to know about some of these diseases, we'd have already found a cure for them. Taking the necessary precautions is a prudent measure in this case.

The guy who checked into the care now is actually from The Colony, where I live.
His daughter goes to the same high school as my daughter....

Not panicking but this is definitely closer to home than I'd like.

I do not believe this is airborne but I also do not believe you must make out with someone to get it either.
I think it passes pretty easily if people aren't aware to avoid that happening.
Coughs, sneezes, even yawns can produce more bodily fluid then we want to know about.

What type of normal yawning produces bodily fluid, lol?

Anyways, I don't think you have reason for concern. The Frisco patient is not even a confirmed case yet. I work at Presby Dallas, was there the same day Mr. Duncan showed up the second time, and he was brought into my dept. for testing. I'm not even worried about this and I was in close proximity for indirect contact exposure.

no offense man but you ask this and you work at a world class hospital?

i am pretty sure there's nothing to worry about but i wouldn't brush it off completely either.
it's not something you want to take a small risk on knowing it could be fatal.

I don't think you have read this thread about the travel thing but it does not work like that.
