How would you feel about an 11-5 no playoffs season?

I would call it very unlucky.

Cannot gripe about an 11-5 season after three 8-8s and predictions of doom this season.

You see. I could.

Besides the record. The only real difference in this scenario is that we muffed early in season to cost us playoffs instead of the last games(s) of the year.

6 on one... Half a dozen on the other.
Record means squat to me,

I think it sucks. that's how I feel. after putting up with this team the last three years and all they had to do was win nine games in each season to get a playoff spot and now if they win eleven games and still not make the playoffs that just sucks even more.

This. It would feel robbed in the worst way.

University: "You scored 88%. That's not high enough to get in - we require 89%."

Next time: "You scored 88% again. Again, that's not high enough to get in - we require 89%."

Next time: "You scored 88% again. Again, that's not high enough to get in - we require 89%."

Next time: "Congrats, you scored 91%! Unfortunately, that's not high enough to get in - we now require 92%."

Talk about emotions being jerked around.

Playoffs or no playoffs, the Cowboys have shown that they're moving in the right direction, so there would be some positive feelings about going 11-5. Not making the playoffs, however, would suck. The loss against the Skins would definitely make it sting. As to whether or not Garrett should be fired, I don't know. When teams get in with worse records, I don't know how much of it you can really lay on him. You could argue that he got outcoached by Gruden/Haslett, but then I could say he outcoached Pete Carroll. Can we get to where we want with him, or do we need someone else? Letting him go means likely letting the whole staff go and starting over, and that's tough to sell when the team goes 11-5, improves by three games over last year, and far exceeds pretty much everyone's expectations.

You don't want to hold on to a stock that's not going anywhere, but you don't want to sell one that's going up either.

Does one season indicate progress? Wade Phillips went 13-3 his first year hear. What happened in 2008? We have only 1 win against a winning opponent. We have had a cupcake schedule this year.

May want to fact check this

Let me qualify my statement here. If we go 11-5, we are in the playoffs, no question in my mind.

JMO, but I think there is no way 11-5 gets us in. Looking at the tie breaker, we would need the Lions to go either 12-4 with us and Seattle being 11-5, or we need the Lions to go 10-6, which means a loss vs Minnesota or Chicago, which to me is unlikely. We lose almost any 3 way tie at 11-5.

Right. I started the thread because there is a very good chance 11-5 won't get them in. Not with the way the tiebreakers line up.

To me, as frustrating as it is to just miss it again, I can't say it's same old, same old. 11-5 is a playoff contender. In order to finish 11-5 we have to beat at least one of the Eagles/Colts. They are both playoff caliber. We'd be going 5-2 down the stretch.

I'd chalk it up as a fluke year where 11 wins isn't good enough and consider progress made.

This 100%, only a fool would scrap everything and go with a new coaching staff. And yes, if you fired Garrett, Marinelli is more than likely gone, unless you want to make the only coach in the history of the NFL to go 0-16, our next coach....

I'd feel we wasted an opportunity to do something. This team was 6-1.

I'm not much of a thread starter but I really am interested in the responses.

Obviously nobody is going to be happy about missing the playoffs. That's not the point of this thread. I'm talking about how you would feel about the state of the team and it's immediate future.

Let's say the Cowboys win 2 of the next 3 games. Beat the Eagles, lose to the Colts, beat the Commanders. Or whatever way you want to do it. But they lose the tiebreakers for the division and wild card. They sit at home at 11-5. This is a pretty rare happening in the NFL.

What's your reaction? Is this the same team that can't close the deal and just misses the playoffs? Like every other year in recent memory? The record doesn't matter, all that matters is they came up short again?

Or was it just a flukey season, the team went 5-2 down the stretch, clear progress has been made and this is merely a case of some bad luck? No 11-5 team should ever be sitting at home watching a 7-9 division winner? This was a clear step forward towards 2015?

I say 11-5 and no playoffs. You say?

I ask because I really don't know.

I think this is a very likely scenario.

To your question, I say I feel that the cowboys took a step forward but due to the way the NFC shaped up it was a lost year as far as what should have been a good enough season for playoffs.

Hopeful for next year. Expect offense will maintain current level of play and defense can improve with some off season moves

Wouldn't be completely happy about it. Mainly because I think with that good a record, there is no way you should be left out of the playoffs. I would also be please, however at the obvious progress this club has shown this year.

It is a long "process" .

That's what happens when you remain competitive during a rebuild and never bottom out.

Believe it or not but the Cowboys have had very few premium high draft choices over the last two decades.

Talent wins in this league.

Ask Bill Beli about his time with the Browns. He might punch you in the throat for bringing up those horrific memories.

The current playoff system needs to be totally re-evaluated. Top 6 teams get in ... regardless of division. No automatic bids. Create some tie breakers.

Then what's the point of divisions? This just reeks of butthurt.

Keep the division winners get in UNLESS they finish with a BELOW .500 record. If they do, THEN you go to a team with a better record in the conference. That way the divisions STILL Matter... but you have to have a winning record to get in.

How would you feel about an 11-5 no playoffs season?

Not good. Five years in a row with no playoffs, four and a half with same coach, it would be time to move on. This aint horse shoes.

Hate to say it, but if the Cowboys lose to the Eagles on Sunday, it's possible that Romo will end his career with a grand total of one playoff win.

  1. A Cowboys loss would probably keep Dallas out of the playoffs.
  2. Romo is aging rapidly and suffering more and more injuries.
  3. Even if the Cowboys make the playoffs in 2015 or 2016, there's no guarantee they'd win.

I think with a 11-5 record and no playoffs heads are going to roll on the coaching staff, considering how hard the team would have had to play to achieve that record, break the 8-8 and still miss the post season. Just my thought on it
