General Managers with the highest percentage of draft picks to make 1+ Pro Bowls.

Generally speaking--other than the few obvious expensive gaffes he's made, Jerry's problem hasn't been the draft. It's been overpaying his players and fielding rosters that are too spotty to win consistently. Including expensive FA whiffs.

Agreed. And a couple of disastrous trades for WRs that robbed the team of additional draft choices.

That's only cuz garrett is drafting well now

Or because we do a better job developing the players we did draft during those periods where we have coaches who know what they're doing. These things are always chicken:egg.

It can't be.

The only reasons the Cowboys have ever had good players is because of luck or the teams head coach's drafting prowess

While this might help some feel good about the course of the team over the last 2 decades, I don't find it that impressive. How about a real stat, like division champions, conference or league championships?

Stop, you will ruin the parade.

There's definitely more that goes into a team than the rate at which you draft pro bowlers. I'd be more interested in seeing the same data for teams that draft starters. Or for drafting players who make the roster. It might just be that we've got a GM with a tendency to swing for the fences at the expense of singles and doubles.

But it's still an interesting positive for a guy who's constantly bashed for foolish drafting.

Stop, you will ruin the parade.

You keep seeing parades where there are no parades. It must make life so interesting for you. Or at least it would, if you could ever enjoy a good parade.

The only stat that matters is Super Bowl wins. We haven't participated in one in almost 20 years. Just sayin'.

Some franchises have never participated at all, we have been to record 8 appearances. ......just saying

What would that prove? It could easily be argued that the starters drafted means your roster wasn't good to begin with. Making the roster means the GM could stockpile draft choices on the roster because the depth was poor.

I agree the Pro Bowler thing is asinine, but how else do you denote "success"?

I would guess players that lasted in the league for a time frame. When you see bad drafts, you see a bunch of players that not only washed out with their team, but were out of the entire NFL in a short period of time.

Bill Parcells certain contributions were Al Johnson and Jacob Rodgers, saying that all the backs drafted after Jackson were just as good as well as the KR du jour. He spoke against drafting Ware while advocating and winning the argument for those spares. You cannot reasonably attribute draft success to Parcells.

you BP haters are always fun to laugh at.

and Jerruh was completely responsible for that wonderful period of 99-01.

just saying that FIVE OF THEM CAME BEFORE JERRUH. So maybe you want to think about your post a little?

3 in 4 years and HOW MANY YEARS SINCE WE EVEN CAME CLOSE? How about 20 YEARS?

There is no doubt we have drafted better in the last few seasons.

But the Phillips era was not stellar. That is why I will say this until the cows come home, he drafts as well as what advice he is given. It is that simple.

That is a little different from your normal GM arrangement, where they do have real evaluation involved.

Nailed it. He is an empty void as a General Manager. He provides nothing in the way of knowledge and insight. He doesn't have a vision for the team or what his kind of players look like. He's simply the wallet that bought the position.

I've never agreed with those that say the team can't win with him, but they certainly have to overcome him if they do.

But at the end of the day, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.

I don't give a rat's behind who gets the credit. I just want the Cowboys to win. I don't care if it's the way I think they should do it, or they think they should do it. Just win. It's all I care about. The credit thing is a sickness from the lunatic owner. A fully functioning grown adult male of sound mind wouldn't care about such trivial things.

Well you have demonstrated an obstinance in your opinions that doesn't bother to examine the basis for said opinions. Instead of snark perhaps you would like to discuss the substance of their draft records. I didn't mind his retreads so much, those guys would run through walls for him but his overall record as a personnel man is what it is.

Fantastic coach, motivator and teacher but poor talent scout.

Why should I waste time on someone like you who would never admit they were wrong despite the evidence?

His drafts were terrible pre-Parcells. As big of an issue as any other. When a guy goes into a draft thinking he should devote 12 picks to backups and special teams players that guy is a monumental buffoon. It was year after year of failing to add talent through the draft that led to the depleted roster Parcells inherited.
