La'el Collins Thread - Cleared post 767; visited Cowboys - 05/06/15

Jerry should tell him they expect him to be the starter. Doug Free can't even practice as of right now.

I think any promise by any team has some limits. If he does not perform up to expectations in TC, has injury issues, etc., then no team can make an absolute guarantee.

If I were a projected top 20 player in the draft, I would not be worried about beating out Doug Free. Just show Collins 5 minutes of Doug Free tape. If he is not confident he can play better then that's a bad sign anyway.

Still bitter that they kept Free over your boy Parnell huh?

The are reports he wants to play OT for a contender. If he is looking to play LT, I can't think of any contenders with holes at LT. RT is more likely where he would play.

@ChadSabadie: Source in #Dallas: QB Tony Romo and entire #Cowboys Offensive Line also made their push to La'el Collins #LSU @FOX8NOLA

Say what you want about Jerry Jones, but he goes all out.

The Bills had the coach talk to Collins.
The Dolphins had players talk to Collins.
The Cowboys had THE OWNER talk to Collins, at the OWNER'S house.

You go boy (Jerry Jones)! :)

I hope Jerry said, "Look, you can play for us and become a part of the greatest line ever, or you can get beat by us as we blow past you and devastate your quarterback. Your choice, son."

Anyone know when the meeting is taking place? I'd love to write my first article on this subject

That would be interesting, especially the rumors about Miami. Albert is getting big money, James was a 1st rounder last year. I still lean towards Carolina. LT is some guy converted from defense and RT is Oher and Daryl Williams (5th rounder this year).

There is no reason for EVERYONE to not be there for that meeting. Dollar for dollar he's the most valuable player in this offseason. A future O-line stud for peanuts.

Again folks. Collins will not be a Dallas Cowboy. he will be a NY. Giant. if not the Giants. anyone but the cowboys. hope im wrong, but don't think i will be.

His agent is pushing for LT or are people assuming that?

He doesn't project nearly as well as a LT, but there are teams with o-lines bad enough that he'd be better at the position than any other trash they have.

The best career move he could make is at RT.

Miami which is why Rex was out there right away courting Collins. Philly is another where Jason Peters is getting long in the tooth. I hope Dallas does get him but I'm not looking at this as a Cowboy fan I'm looking at this as a fan of football.

Miami just last year signed Branden Albert to a five year deal for $47 million.

Jason Peters' contract runs through 2019.

As I've said, the thoughts of someone handing him their LT job just aren't there.

While I'm certainly looking at it as a fan, I'm also looking at it from a realistic perspective too.

umm, anything to back this up? He took his first visit with Dallas, if Dallas is the last place he wants to go why would he waste his time?

Why? I mean he is set to visit us first or did I misread that? He wouldn't come to us first if he wasn't serious about signing unless you think he is using us to increase the price. But I thought there were rules about the amount unsigned free agents can get too.

The funny thing about this is Jerry is known for style over substance. This OL he's trying to build is pure meat and potatoes. I applaud the effort he's making to keep his QB upright.

And that's why I believe these Cowboys are different from those Cowboys teams that would win but would be one-and-done in the playoffs.

Jerry is building the team the RIGHT WAY. Teams are built with a franchise quarterback (check) and on the offensive line (check) and the defensive line (almost check).

With strong line units, you can have average to good players at the skilled positions. I mean, the Giants won with a washed up O.J. Anderson, Dave Meggett, Phil McConkey,, Mark Ingram, and an average-to-good Phil Simms and, gasp!, Jeff Hostetler.

None of those guys is as talented as Witten, Romo and Dez. But the Giants were strong on both sides of the line.

You build the lines, you build a Super Bowl team.
