I'm actually getting mixed reports on this. All the cap sites have one thing, but spagnola said what happened was that he converted long term guaranteed money into upfront money. I'm going to try to find a solid source for details.

Yeah, overthecap hasn't updated. So I don't know what the new numbers are.

All I've seen is this:

According to a source, the Cowboys and Scandrick reached a new agreement that adds one year and $9.5 million to his current contract, keeping him with the team through the 2019 season.

The team announced Friday afternoon Scandrick had signed a one-year contract extension.

Scandrick, who was scheduled to make $1.5 million this year, will now receive a fully guaranteed $4 million. His salary for the 2016 season has increased to $5 million.

This is ridiculous, Scandrick is going nowhere. He's our best corner.

I keep hearing people say this, but Scandrick isn't a particularly great corner. Relative to Carr's underperforming play and Claiborne's.... sure... maybe... but he isn't a top corner in this league, and certainly not a true #1 corner.

The two starting CB's next year will be OS and Hopefully Jones. OS is our best defensive player. Good try though...

Who says B. Jones doesn't play safety?

Then what? Then you lose?

Plus, IF dallas drafts a first round corner is a darn big if

I think if the team truly moves Jones to safety that changes things, but I don't believe that is his position long term if he shows to be a capable corner.

He's played great without a DL, and with nobody anywhere over the top to help him. Watch what he does when we make the QB throw the ball in under 10 seconds.

We will need another cb next year. But scan is not going anywhere
We will need to replace either mo or Carr
And hopefully jones is the guy to replace one of them
I don't see mo getting a second contract and Carr I think is in his last year
Plus you can't have too much depth at cb

We are drafting Jalen Ramsey in the 1st round next year so don't worry about it. (He's a safety).

This is what Spagnola said on Talkin Cowboys

"The other thing that people didn't understand with the Scandrick deal is they took guarantees away from him. So after 2016 he has three years of unguaranteed base salaries so they can cut him if he doesn't play well."

Another issue if I'm the Cowboys is that I'm afraid if Scandrick decides to holdout again in 2017.

I think Spagnola made a mistake here. Running the numbers, it doesn't look like Scandrick had any guaranteed money left anyways. His original extension had a 10 million dollar guarantee, which came in the form of signing bonus and two restructures on top of his 2014 and 2015 base salary.

I asked him via twitter to clarify his comments.

I really don't think Dallas would be afraid if a 30 year old CB decides to hold out again.

Potential, really. SMH... You're not one of those guys who said Matt Johnson was going be the next Woody are you? Or one that said that Miles Austin was going to be a HOFer? C'mon man.. I hope Gregory, Jones, and Lawrence become great, but let's wait until they play a season or two first before we anoint them.

Hardy was great, we don't know what almost two seasons off will do to him. Lee is great for 6-9 games a year, can't depend on him to save your life. RoMac could be great if his dome didn't get in the way of him succeeding. And again,Lawrence hasn't played enough for us to know how good he will be.

They will be if they haven't replaced his contributions by that time. If I'm running the Cowboys the next year is entirely about the back 4, maybe another linebacker somewhere.

Matt Johnson was a 4th round draft pick. I was high on what I thought he could give us at the position, but I think you drawing a comparison to someone who was a 4th round draft pick (who had some talent but couldn't stay healthy) versus a player who was ranked in the top 10 of the draft before these problems came out. Not to mention another corner who went in the first round, and one of the highest pass rushers in the 2014 draft.

Again as it relates to Hardy, he wasn't injured nor did he spend a year in prison. His time off isnt the same as anyone else's time off.

McClain and Lee are hands down better than Scandrick. Won't even listen to a debate otherwise.

How? He got a decent pay raise this year and a slight pay raise next year. It's not like he's breaking the bank.

He's already 28 and is under contract till 2019. It's not like he was about to hit free agency or anything. He's still paid considerably less than most corners.

He most likely has no leverage in the future and risks getting cut if he throws another tantrum.

^ this....I doubt the Jones' will be entering the 2016 draft scheming to rid themselves of OS' burdensome salary.

He really has no leverage in 2 years. IMO, he played his leverage card this year because Claiborne is still hurt and Dallas declined his 5 year option, the Carr situation is undecided, and Byron is a rookie.

We have a lot of questions for this 2016 defense.

Do we re-sign Hardy and McClain? How much does Crawford get?

You have to make cuts where you can.

I agree, I'm just saying if you look at his base salaries in the future, you can easily see him holding out again. Especially if he develops as a player. If anything I could see him as perfect trade bait.

I don't see how he screwed himself. If those $3m figures are 'screwing himself' then what does it make the $1.5m he was already scheduled to get? He is not going to have to ever play for a hair over the vet minimum again and he got a little bit more guaranteed money. It's not like he has ever 'stolen money' and he has been playing under a team friendly contract the whole time including now. I think 32 is getting a raw deal from the Spags and Broaddus.
