Dez asking for 17m a year

But it is his agent's fault if they cost him money by being daft.
No one is giving a WR 17m per this next season or so.
He could get a max of 15 but a lot of that would be fluff.

Dez would be smart to ask for about 50m GUARANTEED but at a rate of 12/13m per year.
Get about 30m up front and enough to set him up for life all while allowing him to be a Cowboy for his entire career.

7 years 90m contract. 30 up front, guarantee large portions of seasons 1-4 (with insurance backing his health).

Wasting a couple years could see him encounter an Anthony Spencer like injury and loss of money.

Dez can live the rest of his life off this contract and the additional opportunities one is afforded by being a Cowboy great.
Troy, Emmitt and Mike are hardly going hungry post NFL. Dez could fall into that same vein.

7 for 90 is probably a good number.

Quoting that age old philopsher Mick Jagger " You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might get what you need "..... decode... No way 17 but Yes some way through guarantees a better deal than franchise with multiple years

Success is getting what you want. Happiness is liking what you get.

There is a way to get a deal done that protects the Cowboys and makes Dez happy. Let's do that.

LOL...... 25.7 for 2 might end up being more realistic.

And in doing so he will have left 25mil guaranteed on the table which would be a huge gamble.
Again ask most guys and they will tell you after the fact to take the largest guaranteed sum possible.

If you are Orlando Scandrick and severely outplay it, you will renegotiate.

If you get hurt playing year to year, you will be working for peanuts.

And a player is in his prime only a short time.

Was a joke JT.

Shooting for the stars, hoping for the moon.
He'll get his money. Not $17 million, but he'll get paid.
He doesn't want to go anywhere, but Dallas. And if he does, we'll be reading about him in the news.

Tag him twice.

Let him go.

Thank you "slick325" and "bkight13" for your franchise tag knowledge.

I found this article dated March 2nd that is actually an open letter to Dez from a former sports agent. It is very informative on the way Dez and his agent Tom Condon is handling the protracted contract talks and the franchise tag. I recommend this to anyone that really wants to understand how this all works. I want to believe this won't get messy, but it really could.

If Dez really wants 17m a year, Dallas would be better off tagging him 3 times. It would be 12.8m, 15.3m and 22m. That would be 50.1m or 16.7m.

That would STILL be less than 17m and with 0 guarantees. That is why it is a non-starter. 13m is the the range.

Dallas would be stupid if they paid 17m a year and guaranteed 50m when they don't have to.

They can have him for 3 years of his prime and there isn't anything he can do but sit out and get nothing.

The way I understand it is if he sits out until the 10th game and then signs the tender, he gets the "WHOLE" $12.8 million for the last 6-games.

That is not correct at all. It will get pro-rated from 12.8 to 4.8m. That's an 8m protest for being underpaid by 3m in his mind.

17m is a joke for Dez

Romo gets 18m
TSmith gets 12m
Carr gets 10m
Hardy is getting 13m

QB, LT, DE, CB have always been the highest paid. WR is being flooded with rookies making instant impacts. That is why WR contracts have been trending down, not up.

If you say so... I don't really engage in contract speculations. what the Cowboys might accept and what Dez might accept are two diff things.

True but I said I THINK. Lol. So you actually do engage in contract speculation if you say the min is 13m . Js.
