Romo worshipers, don't bust an artery, but what if the Cowboys are 9-1?

I have thought the same thing, What if Weeden pulls a Brady - Bledsoe thing. I want Tony back and I want him to be the Cowboys QB, but what if.

If Weeden is playing well and the Cowboys are winning and they put Romo back in, certain fan base will be happy, if Romo comes in and loses same fan base will be like why did they change.

I am more of a Cowboys fan than a player fan, I always want the best players on the field regardless, I just want the Cowboys to win.

Just so you know I am absolutely a Tony Romo fan.

by the same token i can say:

If player2 is playing well and the Cowboys are winning and they put player1 back in, certain fan base will be happy, if player1 comes in and loses same fan base will be like why did they change.

you can take out the names and behaviors will remain the same.

Truth be told, no QB is immune to being ran out of town by his backup. Joe Montana could still play when he returned from injury, lighting it up for 2 TDs and completing over 70% of his passes in just one half in the final game of 1992. The problem? He was Tony's age and his backup was a few weeks away from getting the NFL MVP award for leading the 49ers to a 14-2 record. I'm leaving a lot out of the 49ers admittedly unique dilemma, but you get the drift.

Yes, I'm about to commit blasphemy.....

Just imagine that the Cowboys are 9-1, perhaps even 10-0, by the time Tony Romo can get back on the field. Brandon Weeden is the top rated QB in the league, the Cowboys have the #1 offense and they are on a roll, an inevitable collision course with Super Bowl 5X.

Their next game is Thanksgiving against the Carolina Panthers, 8-2, and the 2nd best record in the NFC behind the Cowboys. Homefield advantage for the playoffs could very well depend on the outcome of this game.

Weeden's rise has been the story of this season....

Do you sit him and start Tony Romo, fresh from an injury, his ability to perform at his typical level in question?

Suppose Weeden continues to excel?

Notice, I never said that Tony Romo would perform poorly, I never said that he wouldn't perform like an All Pro future Hall o Famer. I'm just suggesting that his abilities would be unknown due to the effects of the injury, still not completely healed, he could perhaps be a tad rusty.

If Weeden leads the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, heck, just mentioning the possibility.....

Would that be a good thing or a bad thing for you Romo worshipers.

And am I officially a hater for daring to dream that Weeden might actually perform at a very high level with this offense?

Let the paranoid condemnation begin.....

I hope your medical marijuana card is up to date.

As an observer of this team's decisions since Will McClay has been involved with the Cowboys, I believe the actions of this team are more about the "system" than the players. If Weeden is suddenly seeing success, it will be more about the system than anything that he can provide right or wrong. "The system" by the way was built around Romo's strengths and weaknesses. He is the quintessential prototype for this system, not Weeden. The job is Tony's when he is able to resume those duties, no matter how well Weeden fills in in the interim.

Number Six: Who are you?
Number Two: The new Number Two.
Number Six: Who is Number One?
Number Two: You are Number Six.
Number Six: I am not a number! I am a free man!
Number Two: ha ha ha...bwah... Hahahahahahahaha

Weeden part not going to happen so no need to debate it.

Yeah... We are hoping above all hopes that weeden can win 3-4 games out of 8 -9 games.

Does that add up yo 9-1? Lol

I'll play along.

I would continue with Weeden only if he were making the kind of plays Tony can.
I too think you should play the hot hand, but you also have to assess ceilings. I think Romo's ceiling and playoff experience is greater than Weeden's.

1) nothing that happens while Romo is out will diminish anything he has accomplished up to now or going forward. Romo will continue to be one of the elite QBs in the NFL.

2)there are a heck of a lot of what-ifs in your post...which means it's really not based in reality.

I find it interesting that so many posters seem "offended" by the question/scenario.

However, the thread starter didn't help his cause with the phrase "Romo Worshipers".

If the Cowboys are 9-1 or better, I will wear a Jason Garrett shirt for a week straight and defend him on here against all comers.

I wouldn't think differently. Romo is a far better QB than Weeden and it just means that this team can be phenomenal when Romo and Dez come back. It might give me an inkling that Weeden could be a quality starter, but at his age it's not even feasible...so, he would give me confidence as a backup for next season.

You'll notice I put "offended" in quotation marks, which means the word has more of a dubious meaning than its technical definition.

Second, I don't think it's a stupid question, and it's not out of the ordinary compared to other hypothetical presentations made in this forum.
