I have thought the same thing, What if Weeden pulls a Brady - Bledsoe thing. I want Tony back and I want him to be the Cowboys QB, but what if.

If Weeden is playing well and the Cowboys are winning and they put Romo back in, certain fan base will be happy, if Romo comes in and loses same fan base will be like why did they change.

I am more of a Cowboys fan than a player fan, I always want the best players on the field regardless, I just want the Cowboys to win.

Just so you know I am absolutely a Tony Romo fan.

by the same token i can say:

Joe Montana could still play when he returned from injury, lighting it up for 2 TDs and completing over 70% of his passes in just one half in the final game of 1992. The problem? As an observer of this team's decisions since Will McClay has been involved with the Cowboys, I believe the actions of this team are more about the "system" than the players. If Weeden is suddenly seeing success, it will be more about the system than anything that he can provide right or wrong. "The system" by the way was built around Romo's strengths and weaknesses. He is the quintessential prototype for this system, not Weeden. The job is Tony's when he is able to resume those duties, no matter how well Weeden fills in in the interim.

I would continue with Weeden only if he were making the kind of plays Tony can.
I too think you should play the hot hand, but you also have to assess ceilings. I think Romo's ceiling and playoff experience is greater than Weeden's.

1) nothing that happens while Romo is out will diminish anything he has accomplished up to now or going forward. Romo will continue to be one of the elite QBs in the NFL.

2)there are a heck of a lot of what-ifs in your post...which means it's really not based in reality.

I wouldn't think differently. Romo is a far better QB than Weeden and it just means that this team can be phenomenal when Romo and Dez come back. It might give me an inkling that Weeden could be a quality starter, but at his age it's not even feasible...so, he would give me confidence as a backup for next season.
