He definitely wore down physically. We never saw the same player who lit it up vs New England. The explosion and quickness he exhibited that day never returned. i chalked it up to the long layoff, but i guess he wasn't working hard enough in the weight room to maintain....if this story is to be believed

I'm not OK with spending another high draft pick on defensive end after what they've already invested in Lawrence in 2014 (2nd and 3rd), and Gregory in 2915 (2nd rounder).

The thought of then using the #4 overall pick again on Bosa disgusts me.

Not me. We built the offensive line now time to continue to build the defensive line.

Needed more than "OK" out of lots of players.

Assuming a player who has been off a year and dogged by negative press to turn off all the outside noise and rack up 12 plus sacks in 12 games was not very realistic.

Some of it, a good bit of it, was his fault, but the expectations were overblown to begin with.

Agreed.

I think the biggest issue there too, with the expectations, was that he came off suspension and in his first two starts had 3 or 3 1/2 sacks. I think that's what he had after his first two starts. Then he went 10 games with only 2 1/2 or 3 more and that soured folks on him.

Absolutely! But not in the 1st round; the Cowboys need a QB for the future. :D Wasn't Carolina All-Pro, Pro Bowler Kawann Short a 2nd-rounder?

There goes our pass rush. But, we'll make sure to extend Barry Church. It's like we're saying 'let's go in the opposite direction that a good defense goes.'

I hope he's gone simply for the fact that it might prevent us from signing Manziel. The day Manziel is in a Cowboys uniform, expect another 20 years of mediocrity and circus.

I actually think it means Manziel is MORE likely. Cutting one circus in order to have room to bring another one in.

I agree about making the defensive line strong, but using the #4 overall pick on another defensive end looks like failure to me. I can't see how anyone can justify using two 2nd rounders and a 3rd rounder on two guys and then following that up by using #4 overall on the same position.

That's as bad as the continued waste of 2nd rounders on guys who were nothing more than backup tight ends with the Cowboys. Poor return on investment.

In theory, true.

But Gregory is still a complete unknown at this point. It was a no brainer taking him in the 2nd round last year given the value but maybe after seeing him up close, the team realizes that he's nothing more than a situational pass rusher in this league. At that point, I don't think it's wrong to take Bosa at 4 if he's the BPA. If you start drafting because of what you've invested in the psat at a position, that's going to get you in trouble.

Gregory isn't a known commodity and it doesn't matter if he was a 2nd round pick. If Bosa is the best player on the board at 4 (and for all we know, the Cowboys might not like him that much either and it's a moot point) and they take him, I can't argue with them.

We haven't drafted a defensive lineman in the first round since Spears in 2005. First rounders have a much better chance of being impact players than any other round.

The other challenge with drafting all these 1st round d-linemen as opposed to offensive linemen is that a offensive lineman will play 1,000+ snaps. A defensive lineman will get 60% of those snaps.

No more "trouble" I think than over investing resources that you can't get on the field. If you drafted a running back or quarterback last year, you're not likely to repeat the move, even if a top talent is there in the board. That would be 'best player available' in a vacuum and doesn't make much sense.

Gregory isn't a known commodity and it doesn't matter if he was a 2nd round pick. If Bosa is the best player on the board at 4 (and for all we know, the Cowboys might not like him that much either and it's a moot point) and they take him, I can't argue with them.

I think it "matters" plenty that Gregory was a 2nd round pick, just like it "matters" that Lawrence cost a 2nd and 3rd. If you then need to use #4 overall in yet another defensive end, that's failure. And it's over-investing with draft resources as a result.

I'll argue plenty if the Cowboys draft Bosa at #4, for a number of reasons. Chief among them the fact that they will have then invested entirely too much in terms of draft resources at the defensive end position.

He was playing well and nothing negative was said about him up until those photos came out. He seemed to just shut down after that.

Exactly.........once those photos came out, he checked out

And this is not really a surprise to anybody that has been paying attention..........I knew Hardy was gone the second Garrett was asked about his performance this year and Garrett just stood there at the podium.........dead silence for about 5 seconds..........then he said, "well he played the run ok"

Keep in mind that Garrett just spent like 20 mins talking about how great McFadden was and then we get a one sentence response for Hardy.

I knew right then Hardy was gone.
