Why no talk of Dak Prescott in the 2nd or 3rd?

Here are a couple of comments on his weaknesses from NFL.com draft profile.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/dak-prescott?id=2555260

"Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions."

Or in other words, he has happy feet and stares at the rush instead of looking downfield.

"Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body."

Or in other words, his throwing mechanics are laughable for an NFL caliber QB.

"Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation."

Or in other words, he cant throw to an area that the WR is going to be in when the ball arrives, he has to throw directly in line of sight to a stationary target. This makes him pretty much useless in a timing based offense...........oh, wait...........the Cowboys run mainly a timing based offense.

"NFL Comparison: Brett Hundley"

That really all you need to know right there.

Thanks for the response and information, Beast.

Jacoby Brissett is another QB that we should be preparing to accept as the prospect the front office takes the chance on.

I want Moore to have to earn that QB2 job if he can. Hoyer, maybe, when he's released.

I think he's going to be the one that will eventually be available to them if Dallas has no interest in him. I think McCown ends up going from Cleveland to Denver, and Houston has already re-signed Weeden to be their backup. And based on their scout's text blunder, it looks like they're looking to draft a young guy too.

IMHO, it's highly conceivable that Prescott will end up being a candidate for a backup QB position.

That is what the Dallas FO may very well end up targeting if defensive priorities take hold early-on.

Gruden says he's the best dual-threat QB in the draft, oh and he also reminds him of McNabb.

I don't know that he's a 2nd round type, 3rd might even be pushing it.

I would be fine with taking him in the 3rd round, especially in a trade down. I would worry about him making it to the 4th.

The Boys obviously like what they see in him, I believe they have spent more time with him then any of the other QB's.

2nd is waaaaaaay too high, 5th round, maybe.

This is exactly why. He's a boarderline 4th or 5th rd pick, according to most evaluations I've seen. I don't love Prescott. He's going to take longer to develop, assuming he develops, IMO. His completion numbers improved this year but if you look at his offense, he threw short a lot more this year. Easy, safer passes. The kind that teams are going to give you in the NFL because it's going result in failed drives. It's exactly what we see with 2nd string or backup QBs. His accuracy with long or intermediate routes is not real good.

There are other prospects I like better then Prescott but if the Cowboys took him in the 5th, I would not hate it. I just don't believe he will be anything more then a backup in the league. JMO

He's definitely worth a 6 th rd look, you are a sucka if you spend a second or third on him. He's a run happy qb. He will never be a full time start in the league.

I would surely assume, the FO, or any other team looking for a QB for that matter would be high on one of those top 3 qbs prospects. Don't get cute go get your guy, absolutely don't settle for second tier especially at QB and when you might need one sooner than later.

You may be right, I just keep watching the Alabama game (I know he did not bring them all the way back) and there is something there.

Yeah, that's why accuracy or "Being able to make all the throws" is so important in the NFL. As a Pro QB, you don't have throw all the routes but you have to be capable of doing it because if you can't, a DC will know that and all of a sudden, the field is smaller, the windows are tighter and the ability to bring pressure from all areas is open to the opposition. If you "can" threaten every player on the Defensive side of the ball, then you have to play it honest and that's how you keep Defenses off balance.

I'm probably saying stuff you already know here.

Agreed and why he will go somewhere between 3-5, I think he has the arm to make all the throws, his foot work is what gets him in trouble which I think can be corrected.

He has a good feel/awareness for the game, think he is a smart/dedicated player who will put the work in.

So my thoughts on him is he has the tools mental/physical but has a lot of work to do yet.

Certainly mobile with decent size.

2 or 3 years behind Romo and you might have something.

About all you could want from a mid to late round draft pick.

I have nothing against him but nothing about him really stands out to me. He doesn't have an unbelievable arm. He isn't uncanny accurate. He doesn't have exceptional quickness. He isn't blazing fast. The thing he does best is break the pocket and run to daylight. In the NFL, that doesn't really work, at least not for very long. I don't hate him, I just see him as a player with a very definite celling.

There are things to work with, with him but there are just other prospects at QB I like a little better. JMO thou.
