Draft rumors (Cowboys)

Yeah he makes plays on it and drops alot of easy INTs. I would feel more comfortable with this pick if Dallas wouldnt have said they see him as a CB. just dont see why they need to push it with Ramsey. They already have a Ramsey and his name is Byron Jones

Again, I never read that or heard that. Only that they were looking at him as a CB first.

I would say this on our Jones comment. Jones is not Ramesy. Jones could be one hell of a CB. He has that skill set but I think that he could be an even better Safety. When we took him, I always felt like his most natural position was Safety. Having said this, so what? You match those two guys together and you have a lot of flexibility in what you can do defensively. That's not a reason you don't take Ramsey IMO. That's a reason you do. You look at it as, "What could we do with those two guys in our scheme?"

If I remember that statement, it was something to the effect that Marinelli would rather have Zeke over Bosa. Now, if that is accurate, it did not say the Marinelli wanted Zeke over anybody else. There are lots of reasons for this. Marinelli might see what others see. A lot of people, including me, see a guy who is not an edge rusher. He may see a guy who is a strong side DE and then he looks at his roster and see 5 or 6 more of those guys already on the team. He may not like something about the player, could be redflag stuff, who knows?

The other thing I found from Broaddus was some guy tweeted him asking if the coaches, including Marinelli, loved Elliott. Broaddus tweeted back............ "he has his fans". I could see the Elliott crowd running with that saying that "see, Marinelli loves him and wants to draft him."

When ur drafted 4 ur not supposed to expect to struggle. At 4 ur supposed be impact. Thats why drafting a CB for a zone defense at 4 overall in todays NFL is one of the dumbest picks you can make. Not because of the player, but because of the way the game is played and called. If this team played press cover this pick would make sense. But off man playing zone with his deficiencies off a WR no.

The team played a lot of man-to-man last season.

Again, I never read that or heard that. Only that they were looking at him as a CB first.

Plus, I wouldn't mind having two ball hawking safeties back there if that's what they think Ramsey and Jones could be.

Granted, Marinelli seems to like that traditional SS/FS set up so who knows.

Just add this to the list of exaggerations from the Elliott crowd. He never fumbled. His contract at 4 would be a bargain. It was really Elliott who found Bin Laden and killed him with his own bare hands.

That's not what the team said. The team did say that they were looking at him as a CB first. It was also reported that he projects better to FS then he does to CB. It did not say that he was not a good player or that he could not play CB well. I personally think it's a waste to play him there but whatever. The team never said that they were only looking at him to play CB. I never read that or heard that.

They even had Deion go in and give him his evaluation of him as a CB. So they try Ramsey at CB and they dont like what they see. They switch Ramsey with Jones and what did we see from Jones last yr? The same things im talking about with Ramsey now. And im not buying Ramsey and Jones playing S. Neither would be able to play the run the way Church does. tey wont be able to take on them blocks and defend the run the way Church does. I really hope somebody calls and gets Dallas out of the 4 spot. IMO this has got to be one of the worst drafts in awhile. There are 2 safe picks at the top IMO, tunsil and zeke. and ill even admit that 4 is high for a RB.

No they didnt. This team played majority zone. thats why they didnt give up alot in per play yrd avg. Because they kept everything in front. If they wouldve played man they wouldve gotten killed every game with no offensive support

Let's keep in mind that the reporter behind what's being reported went to school to be a reporter...not a scout, not a football player, not a coach, so he is not worthy of giving a whole lot of credence to in terms of talent evaluation. Zeke would be behind a 1000 yard rusher who could probably get another meaningless 1000 yards when things are blocked well and a guy whose ability has been on the decline since he started. A ballhawking safety would absolutely make a huge impact...that's just not what Ramsey is. So, yes, once again, of all the players available the guy who stands to make the most impact to the entire team is Zeke.

Well, I don't ever think a thousand yards rushing is meaningless. However, I would say this, if Tony is healthy, a thousand yards rushing is not going to be meaningless. It's going to be very important. If he is not, then it really won't matter who is running the ball because we aren't going to win.

I do believe that Ramsey is a ballhawk. He needs to catch more of those easy INTs but he absolutely does cover the ball and make plays on it. That alone would be a huge improvement to our defense from what we've had the last several seasons. Just break up the pass and don't give up the big play. That would be huge.

Ramsey played WR in HS and caught everything at the combine. The DC draft show said teams asked him to high point balls - and he did it with ease. It's possible we're dealing with random variance on his drops. At the very least, he's shown the ability to improve in that area - and has already.

Ramsey is not Byron Jones. They played different positions in college. Just because they're both physical freaks who can play CB and S, doesn't mean they're the same guy.

That could be. I don't believe I ever saw the tweets. I only saw that original report which said Marinelli liked Zeke over Bosa. How accurate that report was, I have no idea.

I don't agree with that, only because the writing was on the wall with him. He was to small to be an every down back. Why would you draft a RB in the first round who could not be an every down back? Does that make sense to you?

This is why I don't like Linehan. He is not a good evaluator of talent and how it projects to the NFL IMO. A perfect example of this is Reggie Bush. He was everybodies can't miss RB. When I saw him, I said he would not be a guy who would ever lead the league in rushing and would have real problems staying healthy. You love his skills and you can see his talent but common sense tells you that you aren't going to be able to have that guy be your 3 down back over an entire season. He's just not built to be able to hold up. That is why you don't draft those kinds of guys to early. As talented as they are, the chances are good that those kinds of players won't be healthy long term.

na don't make sense at all not in 1st rd

Yes. They did.

I never read that the team doesn't like what they see. I read that they got evaluations that said he projects better to Safety but so what? I said that months ago. That's really not that hard to see if you watch that player. Latin, have you actually watched Ramsey play? He is excellent against the run.

I didn't think that we would play both Ramsey and Jones at Safety but now, with the restructure of Carr, Mo signed for a year and OScan coming back, I can actually see us doing that. If you did do that, you have a defensive backfield that can really cover all areas of the field and, you have a set of Safeties that you don't have to sub for. They can both play up or back and they can both cover. I really see a lot of ways you can use those two at Safety.

The Elliott crowd wouldn't be so bad if they could just say: "Yes, RB has a lot of baggage. Yes, we'll be paying him top 8 money and that's not a bargain. Yes, he has the same questions that Bosa has. Yes, RB has less positional value than safety. Yes, every RB drafted top 5 has busted since LT. But I think he's worth the pick despite all of that. " Instead it's a bunch awkward justifications and circular logic.

Yeah he's ok against the sideline. But you really think he would be able to play SS? Take on the OL swing outs? And yes i have watched him play. Too many questions in this player in terms of where and how he'd be played.

This is just a bad yr to draft this high. Just bad luck for the Cowboys.

QBs are overrated
Tunsil would be the safest pick
DE Bosa is a 5tech or 3tech for max potential
DB Ramsey is a press CB who struggles with zone. And most think he'd be better at safety.
RB well apparently its bad to draft a RB top 5. The RB himself is a game changer, but u just shouldnt draft a RB that high. lol
LB Jack has the highest ceiling but has a knee issue thats not even part of his injury

Im just ready for the draft to be over with. And the complaining about the draft to fizzle.

Ramsey could absolutely play SS. He played some LB in college, even.

The position questions are overblown. There's really only one: Can he play CB on the outside? Even if the answers no, there's no question he's a great nickel/safety prospect that you can move around.

His upside is Patrick Peterson. But even if that doesn't happen, he's a special safety prospect.

lol without the production? Ramsey is Byron Jones.

I agree but Safety is a need for this team. CB is really not IMO. We currently have a much better group of CBs then Safeties. Heck, we don't have a real FS on our Roster.

Jones isn't a true FS?

They played different positions. In what way is Ramsey the same prospect that Jones was? They're big, fast, crazy athletic and play in the defensive backfield. That's it.
