Romo vs Staubach and Aikman

Exactly. I'm telling you man you get those superbowls and they cover all your flaws. Same as how people forget Big ben had something like a 20 qbr in one of his superbowl wins. That is disgusting, you shouldn't even get a ring after playing that badly.

Super Bowl wins is why Eli Manning will probably make the HOF. Don't get me wrong. Eli is a very good QB. But I just don't see HOF when I watch him play. And I wonder if some of the people giving Aikman 2 thumbs up...think Eli is a HOFer. And for the record...I do believe Troy is HOFer. And I was proud to call him my QB in the 90s.

Im sorry but comparing Troy Aikman to Russell Wilson is asinine. Look at Troys playoff performances the years we won. He stepped up in the biggest games. Russell Wilson literally relied on his defense to get to his two super bowls.

Stepped up? he didn't have to step up, all he had to do was play decent, because our HOF RB WR and top defense would make sure that we would smash the opponent with just average qb play.

Staubach and Romo are very similar. Aikman is a much different guy. Stats are meaningless because of eras and different styles of teams.

Remember, Staubach was in the Navy, so he was a 27 year-old rookie.

I would rank the Cowboys quarterbacks like this:

1. Roger Staubach
2. Tony Romo
3. Don Meredith
4. Troy Aikman
5. Danny White

Aikman behind Romo and Meredith?

Right you are, gov'nor. Because he only has 3 Super Bowl rings.

At this rate, Steve Pelleur will also be on the list.

Ahh so the Dallas Cowboys didn't win those rings, it was the Dallas Aikman's. Gotcha. Sheep mentality in full display. At this rate you will be calling Trent Dilfer and Eli Manning top qbs for the Ravens and Giants lmao.

Thats more of an indictment of the teams assembled. We arent arguing which teams were better, we are arguing which QBs were better in their prime.

RIght...and when the team in Dallas was good....Troy and Steve Beurlein won games. When the team was not good....Troy did not look like a top 5 QB. And in no way am I saying Steve Beurlein was as good as Troy Aikman. What I am saying is that if Troy was on these teams, I think he would have the SAME amount of Super Bowls as Romo has.

Even with their leader missing and or playing horribly they still can win.

I believe, bloke, that if you quit mentioning SUPER BOWL-winning QBs in the same posts/sentences with Tony Romo that Tony will look more impressive.

Even with his 2 rings if Eli doesn't win a few games in the playoffs again before he retires I don't think they will actually vote him into the HOF.

Really, blokes, you do no favors to Romo by comparing him to QBs who have actually played and won in the Super Bowl.
Just not right to diminish tony that way.

It depends on how many seasons you consider -- all of them, or only the ones he'll be remembered for.

Passer rating
Avg rank over 5 best seasons

Aikman: 4th
Romo: 5th

It also depends on how much credit you give the QB, and how much you give the team.

Defense Avg Rank (points per game)
Playoff Seasons / Non-Playoff Seasons

Aikman 5th / 19th
Romo 13th / 23rd

Honestly, we're lucky we had both players in a 20-year period. Each is HOF caliber, but in a team sport the team plays a huge role.

Ahhh you're right man. Tony Romo sure is no Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer. How dare i compare my meidocre qb to those SUPER BOWL WINNING QBS. Did i get that right?

While you are gushing over Tony, keep this in mind: Aikman has 3 super bowl rings.
Tony has two career playoff wins.

I can somewhat agree with this, however, you acts as if Romo has always had bad teams. In 2007 and 2009 he had some good defenses, and failed to get it done. He had TO and Dez Bryant. He has a superior o-line, and he has Jason Witten. Lets not act like he has all these bums around him.

What a lot of you are doing is dismissing Troys best seasons. Yea he had a great team around him. We arent arguing that. Troys best seasons were better than Romos best seasons. His playoff performances, were better than Romos playoff performances as well.

and those two probably have more Super Bowl wins than Romo has playoff wins.

While you are gushing over Troy keep in mind they won multiple games with him gone including a PLAYOFF Game. We went 1-11 without Romo.

You just perfectly described how unimportant championships are to this discussion.

I used to think that way. But my friends have convinced me he will get in with the following: "Never in the history of the NFL..has a 2 time Super Bowl winning QB not been elected to the HOF"..is what they say
