Making that point got Jimmy the Greek fired.

So...those were the laws of the land? You could be smart, if you were smart enough to hide it; obv. plenty did. Why doesn't the NFL/NBA recruit heavily in Africa?

Do the countries in Africa utilize slavery work in a monopolized fashion the way the US did via exports of tobacco/cotton/sugarcane, etc. and the materials to provide the north via the Ind. Rev to provide Europe and other countries? Apples and Oranges. Long standing colonialism ripped Africa apart? Apartheid in South Africa is decades old? One doesn't minimize the other.

It is not minimizing anything. My point is that US slavery was no different than slavery anywhere else. Rewriting history to make US slavery different is doesn't make it fact. The Irish slaves that was in America was treated the worst. Their value was a lot lower and the treatment towards them reflected that.

Irish slaves? Gimme a break. They were escorted here from Ireland to have them and their ancestors work here for 200 years w/no pay? I know the Irish were considered the white " " for a while bc no one would hire them, but that is reaching to another level.

Hey, I agree with you , but the PC crowd gets offended by the truth. I will give the native Africans credit, they can run a long way in a short amount of time. I guess evolution brought that about to give them the ability to run from all the animal that wants to eat them or either they have to run their lunch down.

No, do a little research. It was well documented. It is not taught in schools. I only found out about it and researched it in the last few years. In many cases, Irish women was bred to African men to produce better workers. Most of the Irish was forced into slavery after starting out as indentured sergeants, but they ended up bought and sold just as the Aficans was. They were just not as valuable. You have to remember that the Irish was thought of as the lowest forms of humanity by the English, which ruled them. Much of the discrimination was due to religion and the Irish being Catholic made things even worse in the eyes of the Protestant English. It sucks to go to school and pay for an education that is leaves things like this out. Of course they don't teach about how the Native Americans was murdered and abused either. The first Irish slaves was prisoners that was shipped to the New World in 1625.

I learned about the Native Americans being murdered and treaties being reneged on via the "Manifest Destiny" to take the land from coast to coast, and countless other examples. I learned about indentured servitude and the similarities to slavery; but they came here on their own will. They may have been "tricked" into coming from Ireland to enter indentured servitude but weren't kidnapped and brought overseas. I know of the Irish/English history and support the Republic.

Do you have a link for this forced breeding bw Irish American women and Black males in the US?

Take a second and google it . You are in for a big surprise. Another little known fact is that many of the largest slave owners was free black men. The largest Slave owner in South Carolina at the start of the Civil War was William Ellison, a free black man. That is also confirmed by a quick Google search. I really feel like our education system is a joke to exclude so many facts about that time period because it doesn't fit the agenda of certain groups. Alavert was much more complicated than our educational system teaches . Revisionist history is only making our kids ignorant to the truth. I am not arguing with you, but am trying to enlighten you.

Yeah, I just googled it. That happened in Ireland to exploit our high price of black slaves? So a black man exploits slavery means slavery was okay for the remaining? Dots don't connect. There are sociopaths in every race.

I am not connecting dots. I am simply pointing out that the English king sold tens of thousands of the Irish people into slavery to the colonies. The lighter skin tones in some African American people today came from the slave breeding of the Irish and Africans. History classes only taught about the slave owners having children with African Slaves. That is true , but the Irish-African slaves plays s part in it as well. History fascinates me and the blatant misrepresentation of history disgusts me. Another little known fact is that only 6% of the population of the South was slave owners.

That is true tbh I thought you were referencing the 2nd wave of Irish immigrants initially that is admittedly emphasized in education by comparison. The Irish slave trade wasn't a subject focused on nearly as much and world history didn't go into that depth (or personal research, etc.). I misunderstood your initial claim and that's my b concerning the ignorance in regards to the Irish slave trade. You are correct in that claim.

The first and true and original one of the mini-series. Had up to 80% of the nation's attention as well as up to 100 million people. Each and every single episode. Really do not like remakes as it has to take a very much something to ignite for me to watch a remake. But other than that, the original is the original. No matter what!

I recently read an article that stated that years after the books and TV movies, that it was di over that most of the stories was either made up or embellished . I can't get excited about watching the second one.

History details it as much worse than what was portrayed in the original Roots series. Male castration; yikes.

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/anxiousbench/2014/08/how-violent-was-american-slavery/

"Certain colonial laws actually sanctioned lurid punishments against slaves, and specifically exempted “white” (or sometimes also called “Christian”) servants from those punishments. Among the most horrifying such sanctions were the orders, across multiple colonies, to brand and/or dismember runaway slaves."

"The South Carolina legislature pioneered these laws in the 1690s, mandating that for the first offense, male and female slaves would be branded with an “R” on the cheek. For a second offense, female slaves would have an ear cut off, while male slaves would be castrated. It is not clear how often these punishments were actually carried out, but one episode of slave castration caused a furor in a South Carolina Baptist congregation in 1710. The church was torn by arguments about whether to discipline a member who had castrated a runaway."

SC historical law confirms the legislation for this practice. The show was softened up a bit for mainstream audiences.

A quick Google search debunked most of this and dismissed it as latent racist propaganda.

There are some sites that try to debunk it. There are sites sighs actual facts, numbers, and the English Kings that was involved. I don't see anything racist at all about it. As with most accounts of American history today, it is being rewritten by the PC crowd. In another 20 years, kids won't be taught anything that resembles the truth because it might offend somebody.

and why would they do that? if a site is there for facts, they won't tell you how to feel about THEIR interpretation of "facts" now will they? news should not tell you how to feel nor draw conclusions for you. if the site or article is doing that then i throw up a flag - either way - because it is emotionally based, not factual.

"news" these days tells me what happened, reiterates their talking points, interprets things for me and in the end, is littered with opinion pieces dancing in and out of real news stories.

now tell me - if all you could find within yourself was to do a "quick google search" - did you find what you wanted and stopped or did you actually research this? given your reply, i'm guessing you found what you wanted, giggled cause it was online, and declared victory cause a biased site told you what you wanted to hear.
