as much as it pains me to accept this, Troy needs to face reality. society cares about the Skip Bayless's of the world. sucks that it is true, but ratings don't lie.

If Troy doesn't like it, he needs to remove him from a world that is based on ratings and popularity.
Did you just suggest that Aikman should assassinate Skip?

no, he needs to quit his job or accept that he is evaluated based on ratings, not skill or professionalism, or whatever Troy has decided matters in his profession

I guess my question, then, would be if this isn't personal who else has Aikman called out as such?

Aikman is very diplomatic about his criticism, even of players.

His criticism of Bayless reeks personal offense as I don't know anyone else he has called out similarly. If he has, please enlighten me, and I will reconsider my conclusion.

He probably believes Skip is not talented, respected, or credible because he's got first-hand knowledge of him making up stories to get attention. He doesn't have to be angry about the sexuality comments to believe the guy's a garbage journalist because of it. But to be clear, there were also implications that Troy was a racist and that he 'threw' games against WAS because he was playing against Norv Turner.

Aikman used the wrong word about Bayless or any of the others that do what he does...credible. Credibility is only important is he's a journalist, which he is not. When he first came to Dallas, he was far more interested in selling his opinion than being a journalist. That got him fired.

Are any of those guys that set up their opinion and set up their defense credible? If it's an opinion we agree with, he's credible. Otherwise, it's all designed to be emotional entertainment. Get the viewer either fist pumping of shaking his fist at the TV. The sports broadcasting landscape is changing, too many channels and ESPN has paid too much for rights fees in the attempt to hold them at bay.

One thing about free enterprise, one might own it but not for long as there are always others that want some of it. CBS, Fox and NBC see the money and they need it. Live programming is where it's at for the money. If you paid close attention this past weekend, you saw a ton of Coca Cola spots, they stopped everything but live events 3 years ago because of the ever growing number of time shifters. Sports is where the money is unless they have to pony up too much for rights fees. ESPN's MNF deal is just plain stupid, they cannot sell enough to cover just the rights fee.

I watch those channels for one thing, live sports and don't care about any of their talking heads or their opinions. I use the pregames for DFS last minute info but if I want others opinions, I choose to get that here with posters I am learning about. New here and still learning the ones that are cynical and sarcastic, whom I love and adore, passionate ones and those that just love a good fight and will take either side just to get something going. There are posters here and on other sports forums more qualified than a lot of the talking heads, so why waste my time with them? Because they occasionally say something I agree with?

However, Otis likes those programs. He told me that after watching them he still has hope the dominant species will change soon as we are too stupid to be in charge much longer. And no, I do not let him read this forum, especially anything I write.

Wanna know why Aikman can't stand Bayless? Here's an excerpt from an article Bayless wrote in D Magazine in September of 1996:

"One member of the Switzer camp had told me that Aikman, in a sideline blowup during the Dec. 3 loss to Washington at Texas Stadium, had called receiver Kevin Williams a “******.” And several Switzer loyalists had encouraged me to look into a rumor I’ve heard for four years-that Aikman is gay."

So Bayless was spreading rumors Aikman was gay and a racist.

Bayless is annoying but admittedly, I understand that a lot of people like him and that kind of thing.

Love it. That Stephen A/Skip Bayless show represented everything I hated about ESPN and everything that is wrong with not only sports journalism but journalism altogether. All bravado, innuendo, and hits, no substance. I had hope when FS1 first started but sadly they just following the ESPN model. Oh well, but great for Troy, I'm glad he came out and said what 99% of the sporting world has been thinking.
They were just actors on that show. The network gave them a basic script.

Can someone recap exactly why he hates Skip. He seems easy to hate but, are there other details besides he saying Troy was gay?

That combined with his punch able face is enough. Just wondering if there was more.

Don't have a problem with Skip Bayless. Like someone mention earlier in this thread, Shock Jock Sports Journalist. Nothing more Nothing Less

But I would be lying if I came in here and said I don't agree with some of the things Skip says in regards to Sports. Sometimes the guy can call a spade a spade

Skip can be a knucklehead.

But it's been over 20 years. Seems kind of beneath Troy to go so off the handle about something from that long ago.
Oh well, none of my business.
