I love when someone is considered an "insider"...in other words, "I can't tell you who told me what I am saying, so believe me no matter what..."
ummmm, no
Uh, yes. Trust me. People like to talk, and this includes players. They just don't like to be held accountable for what they say. I used to talk to sources on background and off the record all the time. And if I published what they told me, they would lose their jobs.
I know to the non-journalist, it seems as if "insiders" are making this stuff up. But in many cases, they aren't. Again, people like to talk.
Now the other element is that people who talk don't always have their facts straight or they're trying to float a trial balloon - give information to see what the response is and based on the response, they either back off or proceed with their agenda.
But most insiders have cultivated sources and have gain the trust of players, coaches, owners, and they get certain tidbits so long as they don't reveal their sources. If you reveal or burn your sources, you're TOAST because it gets out pretty fast that you're not to be trusted.
