How did we get better? Now if Jaylon was 100% and played off the charts, then I could see that possibility.
We revamped our entire secondary away from guys with no ball skills, BJones excluded

It will be a huge improvement or a continuation of chase and tackle.... Carr, Church and Mo took a lot of heat around here, mostly deserved....... we will see if we got better

JSmith is like getting a top 5 draft pick....he is that good......Hitch and Wilson are better in smaller doses

The Rushmen and Marinelli have to improve...... no other option... Taco, Tapper, Paea and DMoore have talent and upside

Yep, we revamped the secondary but they are all rookies. So it is a tall order to expect them to play better THIS year than 4 and 7 year veterans that had the best years of their career last year together.

JSmith 100% would be the ONLY big improvement, but we have no idea if he will be THAT guy. And he is a rookie that hasnt played ball in over a year.

Hitch was already here so that doesnt count and Wilson is about to get suspended. So that makes us worse. Plus we lost a quality veteran LBer that we didnt resign.

NO the rushman dont have to improve. Based on what? Our best prospect in Irvin got suspended so that makes us worse. Tapper again, is a possible, but a rookie that hasnt played football in over a year. Pea and Dmoore? Definitely not better than the the lineman we lost. WORSE.

You want to talk offense, then I can agree that it should be better. But it already was top notch to begin with. And if we get any one of our 4 top Olineman hurt, then its off to worse.

Like I said in my OP, we lost Free, Leary, Claiborne, Church, Carr, Wilcox, Terrell McClain, Gregory for the year, Irving for 4 games, likely Wilson for at least 4 games, potentially Zeke for 2 games (knock on wood), and depth LBs (Durant and Gachkar). And Romo for nothing. We have replaced them with Jonathan Cooper, Nolan Carroll (who could also get suspended for DUI), Stephen Paea, Robert Blanton, and unproven rookies. I have hope for the future with our draft picks, but this offseason was terrible.

we replaced romo with a 4th round rookie last year.
nothing we've done this off-season would be considered as risky or terrible.
the unproven rookies will determine the success of this off-season... like it does 99% of the time.

They aren't all rookies

We added NCarroll to replace Carr and promoted Heath to replace Church/Wilcox.....ball skills greatly improved...... and the rookies we added are pretty good prospects

We obviously disagree about of DL..... I like this year's version 10x better than last year

a lot of dead weight, overpriced JAGs and guys that are already replaced

stop whining......if you can't get behind Zeke, Dak, JSmith and our rookie DBs then there is no hope

I love how people talk about how crappy some players are during the season how any replacement would be better...ala Free, Carr, Wilcox and Mo since he can't stay healthy. But when the offseason rolls around some of the very same people who complained about those very players, will use the loss of those players as an excuse of why this is a bad off season. Flat out amazing. Anything to complain...complain when they have them, complain when they leave.

Please see post to BrainPaint for explanation. Thank you.
I think you are forgetting a huge thing that we have this year that we havent had in awhile. Ryan Switzer. An actual RETURN man. Look at what our offense did last year starting at the 25 almost 90 percent of the time. Now imagine starting at the 50. That is a HUGE difference. I dont think people are giving Switzer enough credit. The guy is a boss at returns. That changes a lot of things.

I have far less concerns about what we did on offense and special teams. It's just, did we do enough on defense to contain Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Derek Carr, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Kirk Cousins (+ Terrell Pryor), Eli Manning (+ Brandon Marshall & Evan Engram), Carson Wentz (+ Alshon Jeffrey)? All QBs on our schedule.,,

...I have said time and again that Free, Claiborne, Carr, Wilcox should be replaced. But replacing them with rookies and retreads (like Cooper and Carroll) is dangerous for a team with aspirations of going deep into the playoffs. Again, while I am not a proponent of free agency as a band aid to fix all holes, I have posted multiple times that this year (and the next two years) are our unique window to spend big on front-loaded free agent contracts because we have a franchise QB and RB on cheap rookie contracts. Because we did not remotely do this, IMO we failed. If your West Virginia brain cannot grasp this, I understand. It's not your fault. You can't escape decades of inbreeding.

Hard to say. Yes, rookies have a learning curve, but we saw last year how two rookies can transform an offense. While that's not the norm, it's definitely the case that rookies come in and improve teams all over the NFL in any given season.

Along the defensive front 7, we've added Taco, Tapper, and Jaylon, and Paea. And lost J. Crawford and McClain. That probably works out to be a moderate upgrade.

Elliott's contract wasn't all that cheap, since he was the #4 pick overall. And we're still carrying Tony's big deal, so that window you (and I) are both looking forward to isn't really open just yet.

Finally, we do have a young team at most positions. It's reasonable to believe players are going to improve with reps and time working together. That includes guys like Dak and Elliott, but also the backup guys who only get snaps in limited position groups and on STs. That stuff matters, though. And the rookies who are playing key roles will start out rookies, but will be getting better and more comfortable as the year wears one. What we'll probably see if those picks pan out is more uneven play early, offset by improvement over last year's status quo as the season wears on.

I expect this year's team to be better than last years by the time the end of the season rolls around. Barring significant injuries, of course. I'm not expecting to go 13-3 again, though.

I like the draft, but yah, other than that being good for 2 and 3 years down the road, it was a very tough summer. And getting zero for Romo was down right horrid. This teams time will come next year and the year after. When these youngsters get up to speed and we can use the big cap money to sign a stud or two on the defensive side. NO SB's will be won until we get a good pass rush.
