Sea bass and white bass I've eaten a lot of from the deep waters of SoCal, too. Not one problem.

But cooked.

just dont get anything from manhattan beach all the way to long beach.
it is a superfund site because some paint factory dumped lots of PCBs into the water.

No, I'm talking way out, down to the waters of Ensanada

Mackerel is salt

I hate cat fish unless it's fried by a master

smaller fish is better than big fish.
big fish eats small fish and the mercury accumulates
i dont care for catfish and its muddy taste at all.

oh, that is probably safe.
dont know how they handle sewage - that would be the only concern.
i used to live on the central coast and the rockfish was yummy
great for fish + chips
and off course steaming

Cat fish is nasty as **** braised or baked. Only fried. Still, some southern homes like to bake that nasty fish. Fried, it's decent. Lots of bones.

Mackerel also has lot of bones, but at least you can taste the ocean when you eat it. And it's prey for nearly every medium-large fish in the water.

mackerel is ok for me.
my favorite are rockfish/grouper and trout.
sole is pretty good.
as is smoked salmon, but that is the only way i like salmon.
of course tuna sushi also but too much mercury to eat it often.

My father had like a 1920's vintage two burner gas stove all refurbished and flat black painted with the period porcelain handles set up outside and would deep fry his catfish in big cast iron ,almost huge dutch oven affairs in new peanut oil( if the oil could light a broom straw it's fish frying time) used an egg yolk, beer and corn meal batter,,I'm sure there were other various 'shakes' of seasonings,,, but that's the gist of proper catfish cookin',,,bro!

Considering they are bottom feeders ya! They c-ould be considered nasty fish,,,but hey! EVERYBODY LOVES THEM SOME CHICKEN ,,RIGHT? next time your teleported back into a simpler time, like when you had to actually milk cows, that chicken was the hoover vac of the barnyard,, picking thru the pig/cow piles, it had it's place on the tiered chain of animal life on the farm,,,it's bottom rung.

You betch'a guys !!! channel catfish seem to carry a cleaner taste all the way around, then there's blues and others,, I was on a foray one weekend and hooked about 3 mud cats while knocking around on a dirt bike down in the river bottoms, had a ww2/ issued mess kit in the Alice pack and tried to cook/ steam them in old Milwaukee's beer( it's all I had, an 18 pack fit pretty good in there) phew! They tasted straight up like,,er,,,well,,,Mud!,,, had a mod#39 lever .22 with peep sight I'd pop sand pipers from 200 yards on the sand bar,,, you could shoot,,raise your head and either see them go ' poof' in a cloud of feathers or see a softball sized divot erupt a foot short of them,,, back to the fish,,,good thing I carried imoddium A.D. back then cuz' those mud cats opened the flood gates,,,:lmao:
