Well said.
I have to assume that most of the people who are acting like the protests are aimed at the military are quickly jumping to that conclusion because it's easier than dealing with the realities of the injustices the protest are trying to expose.
With the way our country craps on Vets systematically I wouldn't be surprised to one day see Vets sitting down in protest. Look at the number of Vets who are homeless or who have committed suicide. Our government has turned their backs on the realities of war. There are no winners in war. Just victims.

If someone cares so much about the Vets then do something about it. Don't just pop off at the mouth about a man who is trying to bring to light what negative effects our for profit Prision industrial complex has done to many of our communities. Yelling about bootstraps while pretending justice is blind. It's certainly not color blind. It sees black and green for sure.

They've had a defacto monopoly for so long they seem to lack innovation.

They really need to find a way to make their product much more affordable.

That seems to be the biggest obligation my friends have. They're not hurting for cash, but they just don't see the value in paying $120/mo for basic level cable/internet package, or $150 when you add premium movie channels.

Why buy that when Internet + Netflix + Hulu (and even throw in HBO Now for good measure) for $75/mo? And I could still go get an antennae for a 1 time cost and watch regular TV and I'm basically covered on almost everything.

If Smart TV technology gets good enough, maybe the cable companies could reduce their overhead by developing a compatible software instead of having to issue out (and charge for) cable box equipment.

Basically, the cable companies need to be smart and evolve into something more closely resembling current streaming services.
I won't tell you my job but let's just say I have inside upper management knowledge of the cable industry.
You are correct on the surface. The part consumers don't understand is that the cable companies are not making a profit on programming. In some cases they are losing money. How? The network rebroadcast rates would shock you. Cable companies are just the middle men in this. They make no money on tv programming. All the profit on the tv side comes from equipment rental fees. If you are paying $100 for a cable tv package then there is a good chance your cable provide is paying $110 to the networks for it. That HBO subscription you pay $10 per month for directly to HBO is cheaper than the rebroadcast rate HBO charges cable operators. It's crazy.
The profit is in the internet and phone.

The networks know consumers don't understand this. Rates go up and everyone hates the cable company.

Your equality fight is seen as disrespect and misplaced whining to a lot more people

I can imagine a lot of people viewed desegregation and marriage equality complaints as "disrespectful and misplaced whining"....nevertheless people persisted.

Imagine for a second what people are complaining about.

DON'T RUIN MY FOOTBALL WITH YOUR FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT NOT TO BE KILLED FOR YOUR SKIN COLOR!!!!! STICK TO SPORTS!!!!!

Oh cut it out already.

You're gonna watch the Cowboys. Stahp.
While the Cowboys is still must see TV for me the rest of the NFL isn't . I watched part of the game last night but not most of it. Thursday nite games usually don't have a good matchup anyway.

I'd be fine if the NFL discontinued Thursday nite.

This is what happens when you turn the NFL into an activist group...

We come to watch football not hear your view on current events etc. Moment of silence, stickers for a cause etc... But kneeling for the anthem of this great nation?? It has and will continue to rub people the wrong way and they will stop watching.

I suspect that threads like this make users unsure of what is and what is not allowed
I once was banned from a thread for saying we needed to be fair and balanced. It was a comment about football. Politics never entered the equation before, during or after the conversation.

In my chat with the Mod who banned me from the thread he said the phrase "fair and balanced" is a political one.

Meanwhile Erod made a thread crying about social justice warriors and here we are 14 pages later....

I was responding to a specific poster for a specific stream of odd posts.

I think participation/playing in the newer generation are down for the reasons you cited, however I still think the NFL is far and away the most popular league for younger kids in North America. NBA a far second

I agree.

A a proud father of a typical red-blooded 13 year teenage boy, he and all of his friends seems to be enraptured by the NBA and I continue to be puzzled by it.

It could care less about the NBA and find myself getting dragged into watching it because *he* views it as a bonding experience.

My $0.02 is the NBA is doing a better job of marketing the youth.

Goodell runs out to support a lying Michael Bennett but does nothing but attack EE who had a white woman say no one would believe him because he was black........ and she was proven 100% correct

Well I will agree with you that politics have no place here. May be the only thing I agree with on. :)

I think the players should be allowed to express their right to dissent if they choose to, but I don't think for one second it is all about "FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT NOT TO BE KILLED FOR YOUR SKIN COLOR" when we have this

Just out of curiosity how many on here that despise our national athem actually served our country? Id imagine its close to zero but suprise me if not.
You really think people are kneeling during the anthem because they despise the anthem. Talk about missing the point.

Oh and since we are on the "point missing" theme....those in our military fought for our constitutional rights. Have you heard of the bill of rights? It contains the first 10 amendments to our constitution. Right there at number 1 is the right to peaceful protest.

So I think when people kneel during the anthem they are thankful for those who have served and bleed and died for this country to protect their god given unassailable rights as citizens of this country.

NFL players certainly have the right to protest, to be activists, to fight for others. But I think many people tune into the games to forget their problems, to escape the world, to have fun.

This crashes two worlds together. I'm sure there are some people that would rather watch a mindless action flick, or a game show, or an unscripted reality TV program that just lets them vegitate, rather than be reminded of all the troubles of the world.

Just my opinion. Personally, I don't watch the national anthem. I tune in right as the kick's in the air usually.
