have you watched Hitchens try to take on OL with free releases? He gets blown up. Maybe McClain spoiled you but there are barely any LB in the league that can really stack much less drive an OL with a free release.

Paea and Collins are supposed to force a double team. They have not done that.
It was cool to watch McClain go head to head with OLinemen and often rock them back.

Exactly. Just watched the 49ers game and bowman got blown up a couple times by o lineman, who is one of the best LB’s in the game. It’s the DT job to occupy them while the LB’s go and make the tackle. Out DT’s did not do that Sunday.

What facts are you referring to? Or is this an attempt to act like your opinion of Lawrence is fact with no way to prove it is, thus the weak rebuttal?

a lot of fans think some players are really good, some are work out warriors, some are pre season warriors and they can point to this and that. Than the player takes the field. Regardless what you point to, or state, or even highlight, the field will determine the outcome. A lot of players arent as good as fans think so they need to see the proof.

Whatever i think of DL, which ill be honest isnt that much, if he does well on the field that will determine the rest.

He is not ready to start

He is starting because Hitchens went down and our great FO once again did not have a plan except lollipops and rainbows

Don't blame him, blame the FO

What plan other than having the backup start when a starter goes down can any FO have?

Jaylon led the team in tackles with 10, not Sean Lee, but Jaylon Smith.
If that is not good, I can't wait to see him when he is good by your standards.

The MLB should always lead the team in tackles. But most of those were 10 yards down field!

NFL, ESPN, NBC, CBS, FOX and multiple NFL teams. They're not secretive AT ALL. Every stat and grade is explained in plain English--you just have to be read it.

Nothing you said refutes what I said. The NFL does not actively promote PFF. Collinsworth bought them. NBC uses them in their broadcast.

And their methodologies and how they grade players are not explained and they don't give the qualifications of the people doing the grading.

But other than that, great post.

What stat or grade would you like an explanation for? I'll point you to it.

Let's differentiate here between "stat" and "grade".

I am focusing on grade. So for example, explain the exact methodology that lands Prescott with a 71.0 grade against Denver and a 30.1 for La'el Collins.

So in other words, what constitutes say a "pressure" for a DE? Are the same standards used across each person analyzing? Without knowing the play, can the PFF understand who was actually responsible for a missed block, etc? Can PFF differentiate who screwed up on a pass play? Did Beasley run the wrong route or did Prescott screw up?

Here's an article from a Seahawks blog describing the flaws of PFF. It has it's value but it's not something people should put a ton of value in.

About half the NFL teams pay them for their stats but there are a lot of NFL front office people and coaches who suggest it's highly flawed as well.

You compared him to Albert Haynesworth. You were challenged about THAT comment. Your rebuttal was to "let the facts do the explaining". Based on your response, I'll take it as you don't have any facts to back up that comparison, but instead an opinion.

It's also funny you say the field will determine the outcome, but seem to have your mind made up about Lawrence due to your attempt at an insult with the Haynesworth comparison.

It's subjective grading and nobody knows the qualifications of the people doing the grading.

I'm fairly certain they use fan/blogger type people to do the grading. I think someone that posts here is one of them.

The results have been proven to be garbage.

Any poster that defends them probably works for them.

The entire point of the grading system is that it's subjective. It's essentially the eye test on each and every play. A QB throws a perfect pass that the WR bats in the air--it's picked off an the defense scores. Bad play by the QB right? According to objective stats--yes. According to PFF's subjective grade--no.

I'm not really interested in what you're fairly certain of. The grades are consistent and easy to measure against the eye test. It's not perfect--and that's kind of the point--but it's the best service of it's kind. I'm not saying take it as gospel, but I'll gladly take their word over any and everyone here.

As for the results being proven to be garbage--that's your call. Just as it's mine to laugh that claim off.

No: I don't work for them.

You don't care what he thinks but you take anonymous groups of people's unjustified opinion at face value. Not exactly the gold standard of proof of knowledge.

There is a PFF article called "How we grade" that you might be interested in. It' explains your first question.

As for pressure, it is subjective. But so is the ball placement after almost every play. So is intentional grounding. So are holding and PI calls.

You make a good point on PFF not knowing the responsibility of each player on each play. Maybe the WR did run the wrong route--and that's why a pass is off. Valid point. But again, the grading is not meant to be an objective be all and end all. There is no such thing as a perfect stat or grade to quantify a players impact on the football field. PFF doesn't pretend to be that. So you're right--if that's your claim. But the service is still valuable, IMO, if you take it for what it is and nothing more.

I've never said it's crap. But I would take most PFF grades with a large grain of salt. There are flaws all over their grading system.

As expected, this guy is quietly going about incorporating his skill into the defense (as planned...... ) when he was drafted last offseason. It seems like just yesterday that so many of us indicated he would never see the field and found every expletive to call our scouting team for taking him as a red shirt.

WELP.......

The guy is quietly getting up to speed on the field and in game action. It's such a beautiful thing to behold. He may not be making a huge difference yet but, in essence, this is his second game of his rookie campaign. Just you wait.. I give it until mid season and some special things are going to start happening.

Can you hear it? That's the sound of the J Train chugging along quietly through your yard.

Wooooooooo woooooooooooooo!

Are you joking? The Jtrain got run over last weekend. Its very promising to see him out there and playing so many snaps. That at least tells us that he is almost there. But he cant be 100%. I pray he is not 100%. But my standards for how good this guy is going to be is a heck of a lot higher than what we are seeing.

No worries. I'll give him his own thread because he is STILL what we drafted. That's a rookie with a load of potential who, according to others, led the defense in tackles amid a heckuva defensive shortage against Denver.

Most MLBers will lead a D in tackles. The question is how far down the field they all were. Hollow stat that shows just how much you are looking for anything to wave your pom poms.
