There was a reason Dak was not drafted before the 4th round

Not to me, not yet anyway.

He's not better than Russell Wilson to anyone other than Dak loyalists. It's simply a ridiculous statement to make.

Let Dak play behind the line Wilson has had to deal with the past couple years and see how Dak performs. Heck, just a slight dip in how our O-line is playing and Dak is starting to fall apart and lose his poise.

I could not read through 14 pages to hear all of the "sky is falling" crap (not everyone, of course).....Dak is the man, not perfect thrower, but perfect for this team...the rest of the NFC has no 4-0 teams so at worst, we are 1 game behind the playoff teams if the season was over, which, for many on here, apparently it is

I said to a friend of mine after Dallas lost that I needed to stay out of CowboysZone until tuesday because the fake fans would be out in droves saying how bad Dallas is....my God, they are 2-2...and that is with not playing well....go in to the bye at 3-2, beat up SF after that and then the team is 4-2 with 10 games left....I like our odds with that....now, let's just get that GB win

...our schedule gets tougher. If anything, we're at the easier part of our schedule now.

We'll just pretend that our game against the Packers will be a W. After the 49ers game, we have Commanders, Chiefs, and then the Falcons. 2 of those teams can have high powered offenses, and Chiefs are a complete team that are showing signs that they may have a Super Bowl run. We then have Eagles, Chargers, Commanders. Two divisional games in 3 weeks. We then finish off the season with 2 more divisional games, Raiders and Seahawks.

We will be lucky to be 8-8 at the end of the season. This is a brutal schedule.

10/2 Tweet thread.
Stats without comparison stats are worse than useless, they are misleading. Let's see how the throws to Dez compare to the throws to the other receivers and discern a pattern.

Don't worry about it. Just by what we can see in this thread, Daks passes to Dez are inordinately skewed towards failure. Dak hits Butler at a much higher success rate as well as ALL the other receivers on the team.

What Dak is doing is forcing throws to Dez in extremely tight windows and missing those throws at a high rate.

Time to stop forcing balls Dez's way and start going back to hitting the open man. If one is there that is. I'd actually like to see some Gathers out there and possibly pick up a replacement for Dak early in next year's draft. For now, a change to either get Dez open with picks or just return to the mentality of hitting the open man.

Dak is the same guy man. He's just throwing more into situations that gave him issues last season as well. My bet is he will and we will have a pissed off Dez but be putting 30 on nearly every opponent.

I repeat... Same throws he struggled with last season, are the same throws he has trouble with this season. He just threw a lower % of those throws last season. Several people here are stating the same thing I am.

So he hasn't progressed. Great.

Do you think Dez's presence on the field helps butler and all the other receivers have "more success" receiving passes from Dak?

You're talking up the success Dak has in throwing to guys like Terrance. Remember when Dez was out and everyone brought out the Terrance Williams pitchforks because Williams was wholly incapable of working as the number 1 wr?

I remember.

Dak doesn't need a #1. What he needs is someone, anyone open and to stop force feeding an aging former elite WR with a huge cap number.

Just my opinion.

I feel that Dak isn't quite as good in the pocket as he is when he's moving outside it. He seems to be off a bit more often when he's just standing in the pocket, instead of on the move.

That said I don't get all this hate or posts acting like all the sudden Dak is some bum QB. It's just silly, IMO.

And anyone putting that BS about where a player is drafted as if the NFL gets it right about players 100% of the time is just flat out, completely, ignorant.

There have been plenty of players who got drafted in later rounds who came into the NFL and had far better careers then guys drafted in the rounds ahead of him.

By the time Montana's career was over did people say "Well there is a reason he was drafted in the 3rd round (Or fourth, I don't even remember for sure now)"?

How about Tom Brady? Is there some magic reason we're all missing as to why he was drafted in the 6th round? I guess he's still nothing better than a 6th round QB?

Shannon Sharpe was a 7th round pick. So I guess everyone would still take any, and all, TE's drafted ahead of him that year, or any other year, simply because he was drafted in the 7th round for a reason?

How about Richard Dent, Rayfield Wright, Terrell Davis, TO, Rodney Harrison, Steve Largent, Zack Thomas, Deacon Jones, and Roger Staubach just to name some people I can remember off the top of my head as guys who were drafted later....guess all them weren't completely missed on with their draft spot?

Please. Let the kid play his damn career out further than barely more than a year before people start with these dumb threads and comments about how he was a 4th rounder for a reason, or acting like he's some bum that is going to just get worse and worse.

Ryan Leaf was 2nd overall, btw, so I guess that means he had to have been an amazing QB right?

Good Lord.

It's called a mistake because draft evaluation is an inexact science. Happens all the time. If there was a redraft kmowing what we know now, do you have any doubt he wouldn't have been a top 10 pick? Have you watched Jameis Winston play football?

Jameis is leading the league in several categories that say he has bad accuracy. Coming out of college, he was touted as being accurate so he gets a pass from everyone. He's got quite a few flop characteristics.

This is the location of all Prescott's passes from 2017. Either when they contact an eligible receiver, pass the reach of the intended receiver, hit the sidelines midair, or fall in bounds. Includes plays wiped out by penalty. There were a couple instances where I wasn't sure which criteria to pick (i.e. pass forced Williams to run backwards a couple yards, half reach, stop, lets ball fly out of bounds like ~7 yards behind LOS). And I think there's one duplicate from a Bryant pass in the endzone where I took a screenshot too soon. I realize gif/video would give more context, but would have taken me 10x as long. This is also probably better viewed on imgur rather than embedded here.

It has taken me 3 days of trying to get this thing to upload even remotely well. Finally got 152/154 to upload and am done with it until later. I have no idea which images/plays failed to upload.

DP reminds me more of Alex smith than any other qb.

They have very similar strengths/weaknesses and play style. I believe they have the same criticisms too. I'm not sure what kind of "leader" AS is so they may differ there. They are also similar in size.

AS: 6'4 217 lb
DP: 6'2 226 lb

Intermediate passes with the ability to go deep (even if it isn't utilized as much as people would like.) Protects the ball and makes plays with his legs but is a pass first qb. Both "game managers."

Dak was not drafted before the 4 th round

he is not accurate - has no touch on his passed

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/dak-prescott?id=2555260

Weaknesses Beat up this year thanks to poor protection. When he wasn't being sacked, he was being hit hard. Not as competitive a rusher in 2015. Sacks and usage in run game might be taking a toll. Increase in short pass attempts from 86 to 208 this year reason for higher completion numbers. Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions. Must speed up the pace of his reads. Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body. Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation.

NFL Comparison Brett Hundley

Bottom Line Hard to find an NFL comp for Prescott because he's built like Donovan McNabb, but lacks McNabb's ability and polish. Prescott has NFL size, mobility and enough arm, but the tape shows a player who must improve his mechanics, poise and quickness through his progressions if he is to become a full-time starter in the NFL. There are absolutely draftable traits and upside, but he will need extended work to smooth out his flaws. Until then, a team would be wise to utilize him on short-yardage packages

I cannot take a post from a guy with a profile picture of a dog with suit and glasses on...lol

What was the assessment of, say, Tom Brady or Kurt Warner before they were picked up.

"Let's look at all the outliers to paint a beautiful picture of the future!"

Same arguments, different day. We'll be right back tot his tomorrow.

--PASSING OFFENSE: D - This is on Dak Prescott and his season-long accuracy issues. He passed for 252 yards and three touchdowns. But so much more was out there for the taking. His inability to consistently connect with Dez Bryant is a bigger problem because he is no longer connecting with Cole Beasley, who led the team in receptions last year

--RUSHING OFFENSE: B - The Cowboys rushed 27 times for 189 yards. That includes a 70-yard run from Alfred Morris and 21 carries for 85 yards for Ezekiel Elliott. But if you think the Cowboys ran effectively enough to win the game then you missed the third quarter when they had three straight three-and-outs. It's still mind-boggling that Ryan Switzer got a carry from backfield.

RT, LG, and QB need to improve. Dez could've had a better day if he was more accurate. Kudos to Dak for not forcing throws to Beasley though as he seemed to be double covered at times. Hanna didn't look like that great of a blocker.

Yes. He wasn't drafted until the 4th round because no one picked him earlier than that. Lol. But in all seriousness draft position is irrelevant after the draft.

If an udfa out plays a draft pick then play the udfa. It's the smart move.

The good news is we saved a lot of money on Daks contract. We need to not piss off that advantage like we did with Romo when he was cheap.
