Sad confession of a Cowboys fan

Exactly. And it's this bend-don't-break mindset and lack of a legitimate defense that will bury this team every season. Every year. The offense is largely doing its job. In fact we're expecting them to do too much to cover for a weak unaccountable defense. It's embarrassing they're being coached this way and it's accepted by the organization. How can you expect the players on defense to collectively stand up and have some bite when they're constantly being coached to "hold on" and play so passively all game?

As much as we all agree there are personnel issues abound defensively, I believe better coaching and schemes would make a marked difference in performance.

I have no clue about x's and o's but if the defense cant stop anyone playing whatever the style is they're playing, then why not go ahead and switch it up to be uber aggressive knowing you'll get burned for huge gains or TDs every so often?

At least the D will be on the field less, they'll have to make less tackles so lower injuries and perhaps there's a small chance they'll be a little fresher at the end of the game plus you put the offense back on the field which is where all the money is spent on this team.

save the prevent stuff (or whatever it is they're doing) for the rare occasion they're up so much, its more important to kill the clock

same, my exact words were "scored too early, they're going to lose"

my wife looked at me puzzled and said "they just scored! GB only has one timeout!"
I said "just watch.."

I said the exact same thing to my wife (she's a Packers fan). Right after I screamed obscenities after that asinine 2 and 1 pass playcall.

If only I could predict lottery numbers like Cowboys failure.

I've ALWAYS thought that. IMO, all football fans were deprived of an exciting ending by overturning that catch.

The corollary to that argument, though, is Romo would have gotten the ball back with a little time, probably, too. Would have been great for the game had the refs just followed the rules for needing 'indisputable' evidence to overturn a call on the field.

still bummed we didn't get a chance to see how it would play out despite my feeling I wouldn't like the ending

Yep. 70/30 that ends up another Packer win. The fact that it was stolen from us--on top of how many unusual calls that Packer team gets when they play *anybody* leaves a terrible taste in your mouth.

When Dak scored, I had zero elation, zero celebration, zero excitement. The first and only thought I had was that he just lost the game. Even my outrageously optimistic wife could only muster a "maybe we can hold them to a FG."

This owner and coaching staff has taken all the joy out of being a Cowboys fan. And stop with the BS "go somewhere else" comments. It's been a lifetime of ups and down and I ain't leaving the brotherhood now or ever. I live in Patriot country for chrissakes, so if I wanted to be a bandwagoner I've had the best option on the planet.

It's just no fun watching this horse **** defensive scheme play out year after year, and no end in site because Jerry doesn't seem to care.

I agree with you a 100%. There are some crazy individuals on these boards that simply cannot understand how it feels to be a fan of team that has done NOTHING for 20 years. I am even starting to wonder, if we will EVER be a contender team again. I am 40, and the memories of the powerful team go back to HIGH SCHOOL I simply cannot understand how some fans do not accept that we are a MEDIOCRE TEAM.... we are

The Seahawks of the 90s
The Saints of the 90s...
The Falcons of the 90s

Teams that have ONE GOOD SEASON here nd there but eventually go back to being just mediocre.
The Dallas Cowboys are a MEDIOCRE ORGANIZATION (and dont even get into the $$$$$ I am talkin about sports and winning) not marketing etc etc.

This TEAM SUCKS

I will forever be a fan, but its hard to be a fan for a team that is pure garbage

I didn't get excited either. It was inevitable we were scoring that drive. GB had zero answer and we were getting whatever we wanted. Once we passed on 2nd and 1 on the dreaded fade to the endzone, it took all the air out for me. I knew something bad was brewing. We have seen it all too often in the Garrett era starting in his first full season coaching.

The first thing I thought of when Dak scored was hopefully we can get to OT and not lose. We all knew it was an either or situation.

I thought the same thing. But, I had hopes for just a FG. I didn't think it was going to happen again. Clearly this team just fails again and again. I honestly would take any other defense in this league. I'll take the Browns defense with their defensive staff.

As soon as Dak scored I just got flashbacks of last years playoff game. I was filled with doom.
I told my gf "they're gonna get at least a field goal" in which she replied "shut up!"

Doubtful. Other team's coaching staffs actually understand their team's weaknesses and scheme around them. GB would not have scored until the very last second.

You can plan on Rodgers beating you if you give the ball back to him with 90 seconds and a time out. Even Aikman was saying DO NOT GIVE THE BALL BACK TO RODGERS. You stop your run at the 1ft line and go from there.
Usually you'd say take the points if you can, you have to.

But.

I think we definitely have a better chance of draining the clock and running from the 1, than we do of stopping Rodgers scoring with the time remaining. Would have taken some cojones and some creative thinking from our coaching staff and they don't have that in them.

Same here. I looked at My son and first thing out of my mouth was too much time for ARod.

Meh, no. Other teams have to leave time on the clock, too. Even Rodgers' 11 seconds yesterday might could have come back to bite him if Dak had connected on that first pass to Beasley. And Packer fans were all gripping about the very last play (which was a fun play we're not talking about yet). Romo's a guy who can beat you in 30 seconds with no timeouts if you're not careful.

I wasn't excited other than for my fantasy team (started Dak). I knew Aaron would win the game for the Packers.

Um ... and if we can't score?

Score first. Stop the opponent. That's the name of the game.

Pretty much my exact sentiments. The moment they scored to go 21-6, I started the machinations in my head about well 21-13 before half, then they get the ball back, etc., etc. You just know there will be no fumble recovery, interception, or kick return. The defense is just atrocious - but then again, any team who trots out Jeff Heath as a starter anywhere pretty much reflects where the blame lies

Sideline, this is also why the 'Dez caught it play' probably wasn't as big a deal as we Cowboy fans make it out to be.

Yep. That play happened with over 4 minutes left. Dallas never got the ball back.
