And based on all those facts, the Eagles draft picks, with the no 32 of the 1st round, a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, will need about $1.5m in cap room to sign their rookies.
I agree. They've mismanaged their cap so badly that they have to take an entire season with 1 single pick in the first ~125.

That does not bode well for a franchise looking to sustain excellence.

The Eagles are going to have to part way with some high priced players, but they already have really good backups who were starters in the Superbowl run, or contributors during the season, to replace them.

Cutting the following players will free up $16.5m and change.

LT Jason Peters (Great player, but Vaitai started and won the superbowl)
DE Vinny Curry (4th highest paid DE in NFL, had 3 sacks in 2017, Barnett is ready to start)
WR Torrey Smith (mediocre 2017 season, Hollins who is bigger and faster may replace him.)
P Donnie Jones (Steady punter, but the Eagles have a young punter in the system)
RB Wendell Smallwood (good young player, but the Eagles have too many backs)

To say a SB champion mismanaged anything is stupid, especially coming from a team that is constantly in cap Hell. Actually it’s laughable. The Eagles always handle their cap and I expect the same going forward. There is not one player the Eagles can lose and not replace. Peters? BigV. Curry? Barnett. Celek? Ertz. Smith? Hollins. Sproles? Clemons. And in those five players frees up about $18 million. While all of you would like us to suffer because of the cap, it just won’t happen. We have the best in the business dealing with this. We will be fine...

Equally laughable is you guys making excuses for cap decisions and the overall Eagles cap situation when you laughed at Dallas a few years ago for similar issues.

So spare us all the lectures. It makes you look hypocritical.

Freeing up 18 million gets you guys to 9 million in cap space for 2018. That’s not a lot. And you’d laugh at most teams if they only had 9MM in cap space.

Now I doubt the Eagles, or any team for that matter, will be in some sort of cap hell but regardless, you guys have some tough and difficult decisions facing yourselves the next couple of years.

I agree that 9 mil isn’t a lot. However, how bad a team’s cap situation should be a relative thing based on which players each team already has signed long term. The Eagles have less space available than they’ve had in a while, but they also have more long term pieces locked up.

One could argue that they really aren’t in bad shape cap-wise, but rather they are betting on choices already made.

Our roster is set. Period. Point blank. Honestly, who do we have to sign? Please point out a position of weakness. We have reserves who played last year and played at a championship level.
What immediate move do we need to make? None. So not having $20 million means nothing. But we could make that if we needed to. And for all you talk about us, you happen to be in a more precarious position. You’re about to either sign long term or tag a guy who never had more than 8 sacks to a big money contract. Do you really know what he is?
Your LT seems to be running down. What’s the back up plan? You have to pay Martin to a big contract? And some of your back ups are up for contracts and they played on basically a 8-8 team (we gave you the last game :)). Yeah, we’re in so much trouble, lol.

It’s OK that you guys are hypocritical.

I kind of expected it from Eagles fans.

Nothing hypocritical. You’re more than welcome to laugh about our cap situation all you’d like. You can laugh at everything I say as well. The games are all that matters.

I’m not sure I understand the hypocrisy here. I’ve never offered an opinion on the Cowboys cap situation.

My only point was a team is not really in a bad cap situation unless they are forced to cut players that they clearly still need.

I gave credit where it was due: Philly took their shot and made it. They finally have that trophy. But they are now going into salary cap hell.

If you think Dallas is in cap hell, you may want to be aware that Philly is currently $26 million behind Dallas for 2018 and $69 million behind for 2019.

Your team won the Super Bowl in large part because of their tremendous depth. You can't get rid of all those players you mentioned and assume all their replacements will be just fine, play as well as expected, not suffer any setbacks, and stay perfectly healthy.

Your starting QB is already doubtful for the season opener. Now it looks like your best WR is very questionable for that game as well. Another thing you're going to learn is that players who win Super Bowl expect big raises. Enjoy the offseason because you've got some hard lessons coming your way.

The Eagles have 2 players that they really want to resign- Bradham and Robinson. And 2 more they'd like to resign- Blount and Long, both of whom played for peanuts last year, and probably will again this year.

The Eagles can cut people to make that happen, but yes, there is no doubt that it will hurt the team's depth.

I am actually not laughing at your cap situation.

I am laughing at you and other Eagles fan suddenly acting like a tight cap is fine when you killed the Cowboys for operating under tight caps in the past.

And you don’t see the difference in the two situations??? We have the vast majority of our roster set. When was the last time the cowboys could say that? Last year you let your your entire secondary because of stupid contracts. You don’t think your young secondary cost you in games? I do.
That’s what I laugh at. Well that and the yahoos thinking your new secondary would have an easy transition. The fact is we have a three-four year window of being very competitive while Wentz is on his rookie contract. You’ll need to pay Dak (maybe. You may find out he’s not really worth a big contract) a year before we have to pay Carson. And the next year you have to pay Zeke.

I'm posting in THE NFL ZONE portion of the forum, right?

On a Cowboys site.

Isn’t there an NFL section inn Bleeding Green Nation or somewhere else?

I am getting the impression you aren’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Isn’t this the zone where you DO talk about other teams in the NFL?
I’m thinking that’s why you have different zones, no? And no, there is no NFL section on BGN. Just as there is none on BTB.
