Because of coaching and QB play. Whatever else is around that doesn't seem to matter.
Fair point. And they are far ahead in the coaching department. Our QB will be OK. Not saying he will be Brady, but should be a top 10 guy.

I'm not exactly sure what the front office is aware of right now.

Their moves, non-moves, and visits don't make much sense to me at the moment.

At this point, I see them down to four offensive linemen. And they're currently visiting with what is almost certain to be an overpriced #2 receiver in Allen Hurns?

Call it panic, but I'd make sure I had at least one of these tackles signed, preferably both, before I ever considered even talking contract with Allen Hurns.

Well, generally the past few years we've been a BandAid organization, just replacing players we lose with lesser, cheaper free agents. We do that and then hope to replace the BandAids in the draft, like we did at corner last year.

So I think with Dallas, who they get is going to depend on who's the cheapest BandAid. The advantage for any BandAid we get at receiver is the savings we would get from cutting Dez would be applied. If I read his contract information correctly, then we would save $8.5 million if we cut him outright, so that gives them a little more money to work with in finding his "replacement."

It wouldn't surprise me if we're not willing to spend more than a couple million on an OL BandAid.

So are you saying cut Dez for Allen Hurns?

Eww.

So I have to ask, can we cut Twill and save some cap? Id pay another 2 or 3 million for Hurns, but you're right Stash its probably too steep.

Nope.
At worst we could June 1st cut him but we just break even this year with dead cap still on the books next year(2.5mil?).

No, Williams 2018 salary is guaranteed. Yet another of several reasons why the interest in Hurns makes no sense to me.

He's certainly not replacing your #1 guy

He hasn't been as good as your #2 guy the past two years.

And he'd absolutely cost much more than that same #2 guy.

Where's the logic?

I'm not saying that's what we should do. I am saying that it's what I expect Dallas to do if it signs Hurns, and it would be the reason why signing him is even a consideration.

Let's say Dallas could get Hurns for $7 million a year. Cutting Dez outright would save $8.5 million. The savings difference would be even more if Dallas signed Hurns to a long-term contract ... let's say 4 years, $40 million ... because the first couple years of his deals would likely be lower than $7 million. Then you have the possibility of designating Dez as a June 1 cut, I believe.

Honest question, is our quarterback currently a "selling point"?

I fully expect him to take the best money offer he can get, like they all do. And all signs for me point to the Jets being the team willing to pay him the most. They're so sad right now that they can't get top players to sign there, even for more money. But the midrange guys like this will gladly take it. Just ask McCown or Claiborne.

I expect Hurns will too.

I agree too a point however Jets have quite a few WR that may all get catches which in the
long run could hurt him now with the Cowboys he would probably move right into #2 WR so
more stats mean more dollars eventually. Also lets be honest Cowboy exposure or Jets ?

Most players think about the money today...not down the road. Nothing is guaranteed tomorrow.

And would you consider that a smart decision or a poor one?

I'd consider it a poor one. A very poor one. A huge step backwards. And an almost built-in excuse for failure in 2018.

The only logic I get is hes better than Twill. That said I dont know what they will actually offer him. We do need to upgrade the wrs, but I get your point. Im not neccessarily excited about this, simply saying he is a better number 2 than Twill.

Now if we are talking logic, going after a legit wr1 and cutting Dez would have made sense. I really dont know thier angle here.

I was actually thinking 2yrs/15 million lock him up today

So twice as much money as your current #2 receiver gets who has outpaced Hurns for the past two years and pretty much their overall careers?

Sounds like a real leap in logic there.

Honestly thinking that way is why teams sink oh as we are currently doing. You have to pay to play.

You keep saying this. Hurns has more touchdowns and 201 yards less than Williams. With Bortles throwing him the ball. And Hurns uses his hands. Personally I like Hurns more. The only drop off we would see would probably be blocking as I have never seen his blocking skills.

Depends what you define as better. Ill take points in a big game over 201 yards that go no where any day of the week and twice on Sunday

Williams 2016-2018- 1162 YDS and 4 TDs
Hurns 2016-2018- 961 and 5 TDS
