If Dallas doesn't sign some FA's for the defense dont expect much from this defense.

The Cowboys defense allowed 48 points total in the last 4 games.
It was vastly improved and that was with David Irving concussed.
Those young DBs really took off and as long as Sean Lee was around the LB corps was more than fine.

Should they keep building it? Yes! Do they need a bunch of name free agents? No.

Dak friendly means getting him the best offensive line in the NFL so he can hand the ball off and on occasions throw his bread and butter short passes. Any pressure and he runs to the outside, not sure why he scared to step up in the pocket. oh well

So the signing of 2 wrs may be confirming some of these plans.

2 less emphasis on TEs - so witten may not stay long and his contract can pay for the 2 wr signings
3. we may keep 6 or 7 wrs while less TE's, but the wr's with the worst hands are in danger (twill, dez)

-- deep threat - twill and thompson

First, lets be realistic. We replaced Butler who was our 4'th option behind Dez, Witten, T Will and Bease. So no change there at all really, a little more speed maybe. Signing Hurns could signal the end of T Will. A post June 1 cut would save $3.5 mill on the cap but also create $3.5 mill spread over 2 years in dead cap.. For all the things T Will isn't, he is durable though. Hurns has had some problems stayin in the field the last two years. It makes sense to use our 37 year old TE in fewer than 97% of the offensive snaps too, whether that is Dak friendly or not. Witt isn't even our best blocking TE now. Hanna is his equal in blocking. We're starting to see the changing of the guard at WR. Agree with your draft projections pretty much but I wouldn't rule out a WR, just not high in the draft

There does seem to be talk of using Dak more like he was used in college with more RPO's. Do I trust Linnehan to create an effective offense like that? NO!!

I don't think it's that simple.

For one, they force feed low percentage passes to Dez. We aren't throwing low percentage fades in the red zone to TWill or Butler or Beasley. We throw them to Dez. And for the record, I absolutely despise the fade. LOL.

I think the coaching staff does a poor job of using Dez. Now that's not to excuse Dez who had a case of the dropsies last year and part of his route running issues are his own, no one elses.

But I honestly believe that while Dez bears responsibility, the way we use him did not lend itself to him producing. I'd like to see the rumors of more crossing routes, slants come to fruition. I think Dez's numbers would jump if used properly.

And here I was, thinking I was the only one who hates throwing three fades into the endzone and then kicking a field goal.

Dak had a 52% completion rate to Dez last year.
Dak had a 70% completion rate to everyone else.
Dez has the worst completion rate of any WR in the NFL over the last three years.

Seems like a case of additional by subtraction if you want to be Dak friendly.

"everybody else" was running 4-7 yard routes, if you can't complete 70% of those you really are in trouble in the NFL

All of this is true but he also needs to react better to that pressure

He needs to but, can he? He was a 4th round QB for a reason. He was mainly a RPO QB in college and ran a lot of that his first year under Linehan. With Zeke back there, he could run most of the time and that
opened up the passing game on short to intermediate routes. Dak is what he is. He might or might not improve, it's a 50/50 proposition.

according to the article i posted, those plays were used by chiefs and panthers. they would need to adapt it to their personnel and i think we will go at least 6 in wrs.

the key is these plays should be simple. but simple does not mean predictable if there are counters available for each set.

a swing ot fa and ol in 1st or 2nd round should help.

i can think of a few uses for certain players in the jet sweep and bubble screen
the one running the jet sweep - thompson 4.3 speed and special team return skills or zeke who would draw a crowd if he was running across
wr blockers for the bubble screen - rico and noah

I agree that there is no need to upgrade LT, C, RG, and RT. However, since we just lost our RG we might need a serious upgrade to the hole he left........

Yeah it's possible they carry 6 WR's. They carried 6 last year. Dez, Bease, T Will, Switzer, Butler and Brown. Thompson plays on ST's. Obviously Switzer and Bease as well. Not sure about Hurns. That gives them some flexibility. As far as seeing 5 on the field at the same time, Linnehan should figure out any of their strengths and use them that way. Some hopes for Lal but honestly Dez, Bease and T will are one trick ponies and we don't use them to their strengths IMO. Bease maybe

OP, what receivers are starting? Dez, Hurns, TWill, and Thompson? Bease replased or Thompson over takes TWill?
